Relapse Screenshot
1. Two clips aligned for the reverse effect, tracks been flipped, needed
to align shots. The purpose of this effect is to capture that pause
before letting the film rewind back tot he beginning. The cut in
between the two videos is a pause which is where the rewinding
takes place. For the small highlighted section we applied slow motion
so the transition from normal speed to reversal was smooth.
2. This is a continuation from the previous screenshot, the gap in between is where the swirl
effect was placed. The swirl effect helped the transition from fantasy to reality by making
it look like the character is getting stuck back in to his reality. The focus was on the book
because it represented some sort of port key that will launch him back into his reality.
3. Fantasy Reality
This is scene was reality, however we had to interpret
his fantasy to make a connection to how the characters
meant in his imagination. As you can see the left clip
was his fantasy, so we added this short second clip into
the reality. When the female protagonist said “what
ring?” we placed the fantasy of the proposal right after
what she said because it made a link. It shows that it
was all his head, that this flashback wasn’t real.
The reality side was the foundation of the film so
every clip of fantasy was just embedded into the
timeline of the clip. The cut away was to add the
dramatic effect of him remembering that he
proposed and but she didn’t.
4. Fantasy Reality
Embedding the fantasy clip
into the reality scene.
The same edit as the previous screenshot, however we added a “flashback” of the entire
group of friends from when he gets rejected by two of them. It shows a contrast of being
accepted and being denied of friendship. It was a perfect cutaway to show how lived two
different lives and only lived to see the unreal one.
5. For this edit we added extra black outs on top of the clip so that it blinks into his
fantasy of him and his friends on the bus together. Then we added a cutaway transition
by slowly fading out of the previous clip into the new one, but we also had to lower the
opacity so that the transition wasn’t so harsh when it fading into the reality clip.
6. The section that is highlighted in red displays the multiple cuts to create a blinking
effect. This effect created tension to when he realizes that he just lost the one thing
he loved. It also worked as a great transition and even better then using a simple fade
out. It was very dramatic to add the blink effect from when he walks away because it
creates his realization that everything was just his fantasy.
