• People were pagans. They believed in the Gods of nature.
• Two important festivals: Beltane (the beginningof summer)
and Samhain ( the start of winter).
• Samhain was celebrated fromthe 31st of October to the 1st of
November.
• Celtics were afraid of winter because days were short and cold
and nights were very long. They associated winter with death
and evil spirits.

tombs, so they made big fires and wore
scary customes to frighten them.

the year. They also ate nuts and apples
because they were considered lucky foods.

as very important. At
Samhain they talked
about the future.

The 1st of November, Christians celebrate All Saints’
Day or All Hallows’ Day. This became Halloween.

Halloween traditions to the United States.
