2. HOW WE CAME TOGETHER …
Local health department (LHD) directors in
Northern IL region began meeting informally in
1999. Soon there was a realization that area
LHDs shared:
• Similar demographics and health status concerns
• Progressive view of the role of Public Health
• Concern for public health funding

3. FORMALIZING THE RELATIONSHIP
Incorporated as a 501(c)(4) in 2002
Established Bylaws, Dues Structure, Board of Directors / Officers
Eight Founding Counties:
Chicago Lake
Cook McHenry
DuPage Will
Kane Winnebago
Membership has grown to also include:
Kendall Grundy
Skokie

4. OPPORTUNITIES IN A REGIONAL
APPROACH
• Share information
• Advocate for policy changes and resources
• Coordinate activities and events
• Centralize information and resources
• Increase clarity and prevent confusion of
messages
• Prevent duplication of resources
• Enhance local health department capacities
with added regional resources
