- 1. KNOWLEDGE & PERCEIVED BARRIERS OF PATIENTS WITH ESRD REGARDING KIDNEY TRANSPLANTATION.
- 2. END STAGE RENAL DISEASE IS A PROGRESSIVE, IRRESISTIBLE DETERIORATION IN RENAL FUNCTION. IN INDIA, AN ESTIMATED 100-220 PER MILLION POPULATION REACHED ESRD STAGE AND APPROXIMATELY 10% OF THE PATIENTS RECEIVE RENAL REPLACEMENT THERAPY. AN ESTIMATED 11.5% OF ADULT HAVE CRF IN INDIA, NEARLY 40000 DEATHS REPORTED ANNUALLY.
- 3. THE INCIDENCE OF CRF HAS DOUBLED IN LAST 15 YEARS AND OVER 1 MILLION PEOPLE WORLDWIDE ARE ALIVE ON DIALYSIS. DURING PAST 40 YEARS MORE THAN 380000 KIDNEY TRANSPLANTATIONS HAVE BEEN PERFORMED WORLD WIDE AND MORE THAN 174000 HAVE BEEN PERFORMED IN UNITED STATES.
- 6. ASSES THE KNOWLEDGE AND PERCEIVED BARRIERS REGARDING KIDNEY TRANSPLANTATION AMONG PATIENTS WITH END STAGE RENAL DISEASE, IN SELECTED HOSPITALS AT KANNUR DISTRICT.
- 7. Assess the knowledge of patients with ESRD regarding kidney transplantation Identify perceived barriers of kidney transplantation in patients with ESRD. Find the association between knowledge and selected demographic variables. Prepare an exhibit on kidney transplantation.
- 8. KIDNEY TRANSPLANTATION - Kidney transplantation is a surgical procedure to remove a healthy, functioning kidney from a living or brain dead donor and implant it into a patient with non functioning kidneys.
- 9. KNOWLEDGE -Understanding of patient with esrd regarding kidney transplantation , which includes indications, general procedure , benefits , contraindications , & facilities available.
- 10. PERCEIVED Barriers-a person’s estimation of the level of challenge of social, personal, environmental, and economic obstacles to undergo kidney transplantation .
- 11. PATIENTS WITH Esrd- patients diagnosed with chronic renal failure, stage 5 undergoing haemodialysis .
- 12. EXHIBIT –Public display and presentation of an information regarding kidney transplantation including meaning, indications ,general procedures, contraindications ,facilities available , and benefits of kidney transplantation.
- 13. GENERAL SYSTEM MODEL BY VON BERTALANFFY IS USED.
- 14. Patients with esrd will have some knowledge regarding kidney transplantation. There are various barriers that refrain patients from kidney transplantation.
- 15. There will be a significant association between knowledge and selected demographic variables.
- 16. RESEARCH APPROACH: DESCRIPTIVE SURVEY APPROACH RESEARCH DESIGN: NON EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN SETTING: DIALYSIS UNITS OF SELECTED HOSPITALS.
- 17. POPULATION: PATIENTS WITH ESRD SAMPLE: PATIENTS WITH ESRD UNDERGOING DIALYSIS AT SELECTED HOSPITALS WHO ARE MEETING INCLUSION CRITERIA. SAMPLE SIZE IS 100 . SAMPLING TECHNIQUE – PURPOSIVE SAMPLING
- 18. TOOL – SEMI STRUCTURED INTERVIEW SCHEDULE DATA COLLECTION TECHNIQUE: SELF REPORTING PILOT STUDY : PILOT STUDY WILL BE CONDUCTED AT DHANALAKSHMI HOSPITAL WITH 10 SAMPLES AFTER OBTAINING PERMISSIONS FROM THE ADMINISTRATOR.
- 19. TOOL USED IS INTERVIEW SCHEDULE, WHICH HAS 3 PARTS PART 1 – INTERVIEW SCHEDULE TO COLLECT INFORMATION REGARDING SOCIO- DEMOGRAPHIC DATA PART 2 – INTERVIEW SCHEDULE TO ASSESS THE KNOWLEDGE LEVEL REGARDING KIDNEY TRANSPLANTATION PART 3 – CHECK LIST FOR ASSESSING PERCEIVED BARRIERS.
- 20. PLAN FOR DATA ANALYSIS: Data will be analyzed by inferential and descriptive statistics.
- 21. Patients who can understand Malayalam. Subjects who are willing to participate. Patients above 18 years of age.
- 22. EXCLUSION CRITERIA. MENTALLY INCOMPETENT AND SERIOUSLY ILL PATIENTS. PATIENTS WHO ARE POSTED FOR KIDNEY TRANSPLANTATION.
- 23. BUDGET OF THE STUDY WILL BE AROUND 25,000 RS.
