2. Introduction
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, one
God. Amen.
Kyrie eleison. Lord have mercy, Lord have mercy, Lord bless us.
Amen.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now
and forever and unto the ages of all ages. Amen.
THE LORD'S PRAYER
Make us worthy to pray thankfully:
Our Father Who art in heaven; hallowed be Thy name. Thy
kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give
us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we
forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver
us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory,
forever. Amen.
3. The Psalm – Psalm 34
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia
I bless GOD every chance I get; my lungs expand with his praise.
2
I live and breathe GOD; if things aren’t going well, hear this and be happy:
3
Join me in spreading the news; together let’s get the word out.
4
GOD met me more than halfway, he freed me from my anxious fears.
5
Look at him; give him your warmest smile. Never hide your feelings from him.
6
When I was desperate, I called out, and GOD got me out of a tight spot.
7
GOD’s angel sets up a circle of protection around us while we pray.
8
Open your mouth and taste, open your eyes and see—
how good GOD is. Blessed are you who run to him.
9
Worship GOD if you want the best; worship opens doors to all his goodness.
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia
4. Short Reading and Meditation
It is for freedom that
Christ has set us free.
Stand firm, then, and do
not let yourselves be
burdened again by a yoke
of slavery.
Thought for Today
Psalm 34 calls us to
righteousness, to obedience, to
glorify God. It is full of promise
and hope for those who do.
Paul reminds us that we are not
called into this life with God to
hold us back – but quite the
opposite – in God we find true
freedom. As we celebrate
freedom tomorrow we ask what
might we give up so that we
could enjoy true freedom. What
yoke would we break to take on
Christ and his freedom.
Galatians 5:1
5. Prayer
Pray Silently or Aloud for Others and Yourself
Lord in your mercy, hear our prayers.
Look upon us, O Lord, and let all the darkness of our souls
vanish before the beams of thy brightness.
Fill us with holy love, and open to us
the treasures of thy wisdom.
All our desire is known unto thee,
therefore perfect what thou hast begun,
and what thy Spirit has awakened us to ask in prayer.
We seek thy face, turn thy face unto us and show us thy glory.
Then shall our longing be satisfied,
and our peace shall be perfect.
(Augustine, 354 - 430)
