New Teacher Program Mission
• Mission Statement: Our mission is to provide an excellent
comprehensive program for new educational professionals through
reflective practice and professional development to ensure student
achievement.
Session Purpose
• Define effective classroom management.
• Write classroom management plan for each grade level.
Learning Objectives
• To identify the characteristics of effective teachers.
• To identify strategies for organizing and managing effective learning
environments.

• Welcome and opening activities: 8:00 AM-8:30 AM
• The characteristics of an effective teacher 8:30 AM-9:00 AM
• Effective behavior management strategies 9:00 AM-9:40 AM
• Break 9:40-10:00 AM
• Organizing and managing the learning environment 10:00 AM-10:30
AM
• Closing activities 10:30 AM-11:00 AM
Activity 1 Effective and Ineffective Teacher
• Teacher’s work in groups according to grade level.
• Approximate time: group work 10 minutes, discuss with all teachers
10 minutes, define effective teacher 10 minutes.
• At your tables are colored sheets of paper. One person is scribe, go
around table and identify the most effective teacher you ever had(K-
college)- name isn’t important, why they were the best.
• And what is one strategy that teacher used for classroom management

• At your tables are colored sheets of paper. One person is scribe, go
around table and identify the least effective teacher you ever had(K-
college)- name isn’t important, why they were the least effective.
• And what is one strategy that teacher used for classroom management
that made them ineffective.
• Each group give their example of effective and ineffective teacher.
• Define what is an effective teacher with classroom management.
Activity 2 Scenarios
• Teachers will be placed in groups according to grade level.
• Approximate time: Working in group with scenarios 20 minutes, sharing
with all teachers 20 minutes, writing classroom expectations 30 minutes.
• Each group will given 2 scenarios that reflect behavior according to their
grade level.
• Each group will be given choices on how to handle the behavioral situation.
• After each group has discussed the situation and decided on the best choices
to handle the situation, each group will share their situation with all
teachers.
Activity 2 Continued
• Each group will then discuss classroom expectations.
• Each group will write classroom expectations for their grade level.
Evaluation Instrument
• Anonymous Teacher survey
• Section on survey to write comments and request for follow-up
sessions.
Follow-Up Professional Development
Session
• Developing classroom rules and procedures.
• Modeling classroom expectations.
• Following individual behavior plans.
