WAZIR
When a name like Vidhu Vinod Chopra
is heard in the production team, the
expectations of the cine-goers, would
naturally be on the sky. Any disappointment
in the narration of the script would give the
immediate thumbs down. But the strange
thing is, Wazir received a divided response
from the audience. While a few opine that,
the characters are well built, few others
say narration spoiled the film. But most of
the public opined that, Wazir is not a right
film to be tagged in Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s
list of epics. In spite of receiving mixed
responses, the film occupied the ninth
position, among the highest grossing films
of 2016, collecting $586000.

Being the first super hit of Bollywood in
2016, Airlift’s content is well narrated.
As it is based on a real life incident, the
makers took proper care, to bring out
the liveliness and that effort
can today be felt on the screen. While
the makers call it a milestone film of
Bollywood after a long time, the cine-
goers credit it, calling ‘Chak De’ of
Akshay.

Though termed as a multiplex
movie in the beginning, Nannaku
Prematho could impress all
sections of the audience, over
the time. The main lead playing
the mind game with the villain, to
take revenge on him, to fulfill his
father’s wish, is what the movie
plot all about. The way scenes
are narrated, makes the movie
a sure watchable and in fact,
Nannaku Prematho raised the
standards of Telugu cinema.

After a long hiatus Nagarjuna and Ramya
Krishna are working together. Nagarjuna is
playing dual role and pairing with Ramya
Krishna and Lavanya Tripati. It’s a complete
family drama directed by debutante Kalyan
Krishna. It was produced by Ram Mohan
and Nagarjuna. Ram Mohan has given
the screenplay to the script. Anup Rubens
composed the tunes. Edit is being handled by
Prawin Pudi and the director of photography is
P.S.Vinod.
Since Nag is riding high on the blockbuster hit,
Manam, he is very much enthusiastic about the
movie. Also after his huge hit, Hello Brother in
1994, Nag didn’t attempt a dual role. This is
also adding expectations to the film.

Story :
Wazir is the story of Danish Ali
(Farhan Akhtar) and Panditji
(Amitabh Bachchan). While
Danish is a ATS Officer who loses
his daughter in a shootout during
the terrorist attack and his wife
(Aditi Rao Hydari) blames him
completely for their daughter’s
death. Panditji stays single after
he loses his wife in an accident
along with his legs. Danish gets
suspended due to some incidents
after which he meets Panditji.
They bond with each other playing
chess and during this time Panditji
asks Ali to investigate a case. The
rest of the movie is about what
happens next. Watch the complete
film to know about the rest
Analysis :
Amitabh Bachchan should be given
a special bow for his performance
in the movie. His expressions
have been top notch and Big B
is the major highlight of Wazir
undoubtedly. Farhan Akhtar
competed with Amitabh and he
has done a stupendous job as a
suspended and struggling cop. Aditi
Rao Hydari has nothing much to do
but she has been impressive with
her limited screen presence. Neil
Nithin Mukesh has been completely
wasted and his character could
not bring out the needed emotions
because of a badly written role.
Final Word:
Wazir is a movie that fails to keep
the audience engaging due to
the lack of gripping second half.
Predictable narration and slow

Story :
Ranjit Katiyal (Akshay Kumar)
is a Kuwait based businessman
who settles over there. He
leads a happy life with his wife
Amrita (Nimrat Kaur) and his
only daughter. He owns a posh
mansion and sets up his own
business which makes his life
peaceful. Things change suddenly
when Iraqi soldiers go on a
rampage killing up all the Kuwaitis
and their supporters. Huge number
of Indians gets struck there facing
troubles during the civil war.
Ranjit Katiyal takes the initiative
evacuating Indians from Kuwait.
Watch Airlift to know about the
rest.
Analysis :
Akshay Kumar stands forward
in experimenting and Airlift will
sure end up as one of the best
films in his career. He has done
the character of Ranjit Katiyal
with ease and his performance
is the major highlight of the film.
Nimrat Kaur will sure make big
in Bollywood soon. Her stunning
presence and performance should
be mentioned specially. All the
other actors have been decent with
their assignments. The story of the
film is short and stupendous. The
screenplay of the film has been
gripping enough and the dialogues
have been written well.
Final Word:
Airlift is sure a worth watching
action drama this weekend. Akshay
Kumar takes the film to the top.

film on his shoulders
and he has been

Nannaku Prematho
Story :
NannakuPrematho is the story of
Abhiram (NTR) who loses his job
and starts his own company KMC.
He comes to know about Krishna
Murthy (JagapathiBabu) who
is a ruthless businessman who
cheats his father Chandra Sekhar
(Rajendra Prasad). Abhiram’s
dad reveals how he gets cheated
by Krishna Murthy and asks his
sons to take revenge. It is when
Abhiram gets connected and
carries over the revenge. He traps
Krishna Murthy’s daughter Divya
(RakulPreet Singh) but he falls in
love with her.
Analysis :
The first half of NannakuPrematho
has all the required emotions and
entertainment in the right quotient.
The poetic narration along with the
grand visuals make the multiplex
audience fall in love with the
film. The songs have been shot
lavishly and RakulPreet’s glamour
is the major highlight of the first
half. The interesting interval
episode elevates the film well
enough and makes the first half of
NannakuPrematho end up on an
impressive note.
Final Word:
NannakuPrematho is an emotional
ride but it fails to connect the
audience with the right emotions.
Though the film has some
decent revenge plot and terrific
performances from NTR and other
lead actors, NannakuPrematho will
end up impressing a limited section
of audience.

KOLLYWOOD
Story :
Chandu (Balakrishna) is a simple
middle class guy who stays with
his in-laws in the city. He is a huge
admirer of Gowtham Buddha and
prefers staying peacefully. He
happens to meet Divya (Sonal
Chauhan) who dreams big of
becoming an actress. During this
time, a gang of goons harass
Divya because of her brother after
which Chandu explodes. With
these unexpected sequences,
things change fastly and Chandu’s
family lands up revealing many
interesting facts about Chandu
who is Dictator in the past. The rest
of the film is what happens next.
Analysis :
Nandamuri Balakrishna has been
terrific as Chandu and Dictator. He
carried the complete film on his
shoulders and is the major highlight
of the film. Anjali has been sincere
at her work and she played a key
role in the film. Sonal Chauhan
played a glamorous role in the film
and she is a treat for front seaters.
Prudhvi takes up the film on fire
with his comedy timing and is one
more highlight of Dictator. All the
other actors have been decent
with their assignments. The story
of Dictator has nothing new to
reveal but the narration has been
interesting.
Final Word:
Dictator is a full length commercial
entertainer that is sure worth
watching to watch during this
festival season. Balakrishna
steals the show with his energetic
performance throughout.

Soggade Chinni Nayana
Story :
Bangarraju (Nagarjuna) is a
romantic guy who stays in
Sivapuram with his wife Satya
(Ramya Krishna). After his
sudden demise, Satya takes the
responsibility of growing up their
only son Ram (Nagarjuna) who
becomes a doctor and settles in
USA. Three years after getting
married to Sita (Lavanya Tripathi),
the couple returns back to India
seeking for divorce. This is the
time Bangarraju returns back as
ghost and he will be visible only
to his wife Satya. An interesting
shock surprises Bangarraju
and the rest of the film is how
Bangarraju brings his family out
from problems and ends up sorting
the differences between Ram and
Sita.
Analysis :
The first half of Soggade Chinni
Naayana is highly entertaining
from the first frame. Nag brought
out the comedy during 90s and he
entertained the audience hilariously
with his stunning presence and
stupendous performance in the
film. The entire first half has
been racy throughout and the
songs have been fresh and they
have been placed well. On the
whole the complete first half of
Soggade Chinni Naayana has been
impressive in all the aspects. The
second half of Soggade Chinni
Naayana too maintained the same
pace with loads of entertainment. -
Final Word:
Soggade Chinni Naayana is a
perfect family entertainer to watch
during this Sankranthi weekend.
Nagarjuna, Ramya Krishna and

AirliftContinuing the era of the out of formula movies
like Bajrangi Bhaijaan, ABCD 2, Piku, Badlapur
etc, Bollywood has come out with another bold
film called ‘Airlift’.
RRegardless of the records or
other commercial aspects,
it seems, Akshay Kumar is
concentrating more on the
concept based scripts, and so
releasing at least one such film
every year like ‘Oh My God’,
‘Special 26’, ‘Baby’, ‘Gabbar is
back’ etc.
Edge of the seat
experience
In the similar lines, this year,
the Khilladi star is back with
Airlift, a sure shot thought
provoking movie. The well
executed screenplay and the
lively performance of the cast,
gives one, an edge of the seat
experience in the key scenes.

Swarup said that, Airlift took
the artistic liberties in the
depiction of the actual events.
He opined that after watching
the film, one would be able
to recollect the role, external
affairs ministry played, in
evacuating Indians from
Kuwait in 1990.

escape
criticisms
However, no good movie
would generally be able to play
safe, without criticisms. Airlift
is not an exception for it.
After watching Airlift, a few
opined that, the film is similar
to Hollywood’s Oscar award
film ‘Argo’. Though Airlift
makers repeatedly trying to
defend against the argument,
they could not succeed, as
the critics are coming up with
the convincing proofs. In Ben
Affleck’s Hollywood film, the
lead star saves 6 Americans
and in Airilft, Akshay saves
1.7 lakh Indians. Needless to
say, count is nowhere related,
when the plot is same.
However a normal cinema

or adopted. They only bother

Here is an exclusive chit chat with Bollywood
Superstar Akshay Kumar who scored a massive hit
with his first movie of the year Airlift.
How did Airlift
happen for you?
The director Raja Menon
and Nikhil Advani, who has
produced the film, came to me
with the script. I immediately
said yes, because it’s a real
story and a human drama. It’s
a story that was hidden in the
recesses of history. I loved
the idea of bringing it out to
the audiences and show them
what exactly happened in
1990.
Your role is based on the
life of Ranjit Katyal, who is a
businessman in Kuwait. Could
you tell us more about that?
That’s true but I cannot talk
about him. He’s still alive and
a big businessman today,
living in Kuwait. But I didn’t
meet him. Raja Menon met
him and spoke to him over
the phone. But my character
isn’t completely based on
one person. There were three
or four people like him, who
were involved in the operation.
We’ve combined all their
stories for the character but
Ranjit Katyal was the main
guy. We’ve changed his name
in the film. I should bring to
your notice that in 1990, he
was a multimillionaire but he
lost everything, got everybody
back to India from Kuwait and
today, he’s a multimillionaire
again. He’s earned back all his
money.
How did you
prepare for your
role?
I didn’t do any kind of
preparation for Airlift. I grew
my beard. When you read a
script, you feel and you go
on the set and realise what
they must have felt. Main

that everyone
should watch.

(I’m not jumping on a flight
to Kuwait); neither will I tell
anyone to conduct a bomb
attack so I could feel what
they went through. I’d once
watched Balraj Sahni’s Waqt
and I can never forget that
the happy family in the film
experiences an earthquake
and their lives are left in
shambles. Everything is gone.
That movie stuck in my mind.
The same thing happened
with Ranjit Katyal. Lots of
people lost their lives and you
know, the biggest trouble was
that the Iraqis were killing
a lot of Kuwaitis. And they
use to come to Indians and
ask, “Kuwaiti? Show me your
passport?” But when you work
outside India, you cannot keep
your passport with you. You
have to give it to your boss. So
they use to kill Indians, too.
Did you know
about the
evacuation when it
happened?
I entered the industry in the
same year, 1990, when this
happened. I was unaffected
by what was happening at
that time, but when I got to
know about it recently, it’s
unbelievable. They have so
many videos of it also.
Do you think Airlift
is a film every one
should watch?
People should take their
children to watch this film
and this episode should
be in school textbooks
because when we talk about
history, they don’t mention
the operation. There’s a big
political reason why they didn’t
talk about it. At the time, we
were very close to Saddam
Hussein and we wanted to
keep very low profile, which
is why the whole thing was
hidden. There was only one
article written about it. It’s an
honour to do a film like Airlift.
We hear you’ve
learned Arabic
especially for the
film…
I have spoken little Arabic in it,
but I must say that it’s a very
hard language. It was not easy
for me to pick up. When they
gave me the lines, I had to
memorise and then say them.
But if you ask me to repeat
them now, I can’t.
What was it like
working with
Nimrat Kaur?
Nimrat has worked in
Hollywood. So who’s the
bigger star - me or her?
(Laughs). She has done some
of the scenes so well. She is
an international actress.
After Airlift, you’ll be seen
in Housefull 3 and Neeraj
Pandey’s Rustam. Tell us
more about them.
Rustam, is similar to Airlift,
in the sense that it is also
based on a real character and
his story. I enjoy everything
that’s why I’m signing it and
doing it. Action comedies are
comfortable for me but an all-
out action film is challenging
for me. So, I enjoy doing
that. While Rustam is a
challenging role, Housefull 3 is
a comfortable one.
Are you happy
the way Airlift is
performing at the
box-office?
Yes, I am very happy with
the film’s success and I am
glad the film has huge figures
already. Airlift is a film that
everyone should watch.

Film Academy (IIFA) Utsavam
awards function began was held
in Hyderabad for the first time.

Several stars from the four South Indian
languages- Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam,
Kannada, took part in this two-day event
(Jan.24 and 25th).
As known well that, the function is not
just restricted to presenting the awards, but
colorful dance performances and other
events, even this time, IIFA kept its credit,
planning many cultural events.

Akhil, Prabhu Deva did not mind to shake

of India's colonial British Raj. The

high taxes, find themselves in an

Lagaan is a 2001 Indian epic sports-drama written
and directed by Ashutosh Gowariker. Aamir Khan,

shooting location and met

meet he said that, the movie
would be a super hit. He also
mentioned that he will do

Shaad Ali and will be produced by
Karan Johar. Now we have learnt that

film in March 2016.
Confirms Aditya, “We begin shooting
for OK Kanmani Remake from March
first week. It will be releasing this year
itself.”Probe Aditya as to what made
him sign the film, he admits, “I loved
the original itself. It just took my heart
away so there was no denying the

role of Sarabjit Singh's wife Sukhpreet
