Expectations from Future Workforce
Cisco Connected World Technology Report -- Nov 2011
(Interviews with 1400 college students, 1400 young professionals globally)
People Are Falling In Love with Their Mobile Devices
• Two-thirds of college students and more than half of young employees say a mobile
device is the “most important technology in their lives”
• Half say they would rather lose their wallet or purse than their mobile device
• More than 3 of every 4 employees have multiple devices, and 1 in 3 employees uses
at least 3 devices for work
New Workplace Currency: Convergence Is Expected
• 1 in 3 college students and young employees want social media freedom, device flexibility,
and work mobility over salary in accepting a job
• More than 2 of 5 college students/young employees would accept a lower-paying job that
had more flexibility with regard to device choice, social media access, and mobility than a
higher-paying job with less flexibility
• More than half of college students said that if a company bans access to social media, they
would either not accept a job offer or would join/find a way to circumvent corporate policy
