The way we work
Oliver James Associates is a specialist recruitment partner to the Financial Services sector. Our Actu-
arial desk was set up in 2005 and since then has become the largest and most successful specialist
Actuarial team in the marketplace. We have genuine global coverage with offices in the UK, Conti-
nental Europe and Asia. Our team of 30 international consultants speak multiple languages and have
an in-depth technical understanding of the Actuarial profession and appreciate the key nuances that
affect gobal recruitment plans.

Position: Account Director
Last year we successfully placed an Actuarial Account Director for Re-
insurance Broker AON Benfield. The difficulty of this search was com-
bined requirement of both Reinsurance knowledge within the Dutch
market as well as a broad skill set in the Life, Pension and Health
area. On top of that, the ideal candidate would combine top quality
actuarial skills with a good sense of commerciality and ability to build
new business. With our accurate executive search method, 12 years’
experience within the actuarial field and unprecedented local market
knowledge we were able to exceed AON’s expectations. As we strive
to build long term relationships with actuaries and have been doing so
from the start, we have a meticulously mapped overview of the local
market and the specific details to understand what we would need to
offer to an actuary in job content and to entice and interest them in
making their next career step. With this experience we were able to
produce a high calibre shortlist for AON Benfield. Within 2 weeks we
were able to produce an overview of the market and introduced the
top 4 to further interviews with AON Benfield. Within a month we were
able to successfully place a candidate.
Company: Ageas
Position: Chief Risk Officer
Ageas approached us for the recruitment of a Chief Risk Officer with¬in
one of their operating companies. They were specifically looking for
someone who could strengthen the local actuarial team of the newly
acquired joint venture and who would be able to adhere to the best
interests of the Group. With willingness to learn the local language,
Solvency II experience and a wealth of non-life experi¬ence it was
going to be a challenging search that would take us in to the whole of
Europe & Asia to search for the right talent. The successful candidate
would likely have to relocate to take this role for a minimum period of
3 years. We value our knowledge of the markets and constantly invest
in keeping our information updated and were consequently able to
come up with a long list of candidates within a month. After a further
intake with the CEO we started pitching the role to our contacts, after
another 8 weeks we had presented 11 Non-Life CRO’s, had 5 people
in interviews and within a month we were able to successfully fulfil the
search.
