National Academic Navigator, Vega The Brand Communications School, SA
Vega School Navigator (Cape Town).
Vega The Brand Communications School’s vision is to graduate a new breed of communicators whose expertise
is to generate sustainable brand ideas. The School offers degree and honours programmes in Creative Brand
Communications and Brand Management & Leadership across three campuses: Johannesburg, Durban and
Cape Town.
Clayton was a member of the Vega team of Navigators that launched the Cape Town campus in 2005. With
colleague Marc Hosten (Vega Field Navigator in Copywriting and Cape Town Academic Head), Clayton nurtured
the first team of Visual Communications students through their first, second and third year. The talent and
passion of this Navigational team and their students produced Loerie awards in all three years.
Clayton furthermore contributed to the development of Visual Communications curriculum and supported new
Visual Communications lecturers with the challenges and expectations imbedded in the teaching of Visual
Communications. Clayton also Subject Navigated the national team of second year lecturers in Visual
Communications. In this capacity he moderated student work and presented constructive ideas to the
management of the year and the field.
My experience of Clayton’s approach and expertise is centralised in his students. Clayton is wholly dedicated to
the team under his wings and specifically to their development as graphic designers and art directors. His energy
is always at its height when in the studio and in consultation with his team of students. It is what he does best
and loves most. For this he has earned the respect and gratitude of his students. The evidence lies in their
evaluations of Clayton as lecturer and their professional competence in addressing a wide range of briefs.
We wish Clayton every success in his future as lecturer and artist.
Yours faithfully
Dr Carla Enslin
