3 In this approach, the teacher is the dominant mode who takes responsibility for what happens in the classroom.
4 Considering Bloom’s Taxonomy that deals with transfer of information, learning strategies support Sage on the Stage.
5 In the 21st century workforce, the demand is on the student-centric approach, thus leading to GUIDE ON THE SIDE.
6 A trainer can be a friend or a mentor. www.commlabindia.com
7 In the world of technical training, most learners need a hands-on element to concretize the learning.
8 A teacher enables the learner to think through situations.
9 A Guide on the Side approach assumes that the learner is seen as ready and willing to learn and the responsibility for the learning is his or her own.
10 GOAL… A great teacher does really reduce the rigidity of the egos of learners, but shows them how to work in long-term.  www.commlabindia.com
11 This approach is quickly recognized for what it really is even by the best and brightest learners.
12 On the other hand, the trainer, like any other executive, must show measurable results with limited control on the situation.
13 In the distance mode of learning, the Guide on the Side approach is the standard practice.
14 LEARNER EXPERIENCE READNESS ORIENTATION Adult learning preferences also support the Guide on the Side approach. www.commlabindia.com
15 Then, there are some who prefer a blended approach because: A great teacher is a blend of both a guide and sage. e.g. Jesus Christ as shepherd (guide) and rabbi (Jewish priest).
16 Teachers need to balance being a guide and provider of knowledge and wisdom and a sage in order to succeed and to fill the need for personal gratification.
17 However, there are some contradictions in terms of a selection of teacher-centric or learner-centric approach which depends on cultural diversity.

  • 5. 5 In the 21st century workforce, the demand is on the student-centric approach, thus leading to GUIDE ON THE SIDE.
