- 3. GOALS FOR EACH OFYOU &YOUR ORGANIZATION • Money is not the real reason! • What do you want to get grants for? • What do you want to achieve and why do you want to achieve it? • Review your strategic plan • Talk with the Board and Executive LeadershipTeam

- 5. KNOWYOUR WHY ●Why do you want money? ●Why are you a good investment? ●Why do you want to do this? ●Why is there a need for this? ●Why will your idea/proposal solve the problem?
- 6. GRANT BASICS: INITIAL QUESTIONS • What do you think of when you hear the term “grants”? • What grants have you been involved in or with? • For what reason(s) does your organization need or want grant funding? • Who is in “charge” of grants at your organization?
- 7. GRANT BASICS:WHERE TO LOOK • Research online • Grants.gov • Ruralhealthinfo.org • USDA.gov • Your state’s website • Instrumentl/Grantstation/others • Go to your local community foundation • Talk to people!
- 8. FIND FUNDING THROUGH NETWORKS • Network with high level people • Visit local Congressional offices • Visit your local Chambers of Commerce or Economic Development Agencies • Always have your “elevator pitch” ready! • Grants require partnerships – make friends with organizations that serve similar groups of people.
- 9. WHAT COMES FIRST –THE PROPOSAL OR GRANT? • Always have your ideas ready • Then search for a grant • Does the grant match your organization’s mission? • Is the timeline for implementation feasible?
- 10. ENGAGEYOUR FANS ANDYOURTEAM! • Who are your potential grants/funders? • Make a list of five potential funders. • Who are your potential partners? • What are the end goals for your project?
- 11. HOW TO READ THE NOFO NOFO = Notice of funding opportunity 1. Are you eligible? 1. If you are not eligible, who can you partner with that would be eligible? 2. Are partners required? 3. What is the deadline? 4. What is the funding period? 5. Do I have the required attachments?
- 12. TAKING THE FIRST STEPS • Combining everything we have went over… • Find your “why” • Search potential grants and partnerships – have a list • Get your ideas and plan ready • Gather organizational documents • Have the organization’s strategic plan • Start searching! • Read the NOFO thoroughly
