Our teams work through the following stages to develop our product right through to the point of Launch in storeWe would now like to talk to you in detail through each stage of the development process and where each role/function fits in and how they work together. However, most teams are working on 2-3 seasons at a time so there can often be overlap.
Design inspiration: Global travel, trend presentations, fabric fairs, catwalk updates all give key trend informationDesign concept: Design presentation, look at customer profiles and end use, look at colour palette, key items and fabrics
Opulence story – this slide demonstrates how Designers interpret historical influences into collections for the catwalk. Our Designers and suppliers then take inspirations from the catwalks to form stories such as this Opulence one to develop ranges and the products you see in store and Directory such as these at the bottom of the screen. Here you can see clearly where the Designers/Buyers soften the catwalk trends and tailor them towards the Next customer
Choosing the right suppliers is critical to the success of the rangeOnce a supplier has been selected, the Designers put together a design pack containing sketches of all the styles to be briefed outProduct Development: Select fabrics, develop trims & graphics and look at garment fit – samples produced
A ‘final selection’ meeting showcases the complete range to our Product Directors and Managers. PROGRESSINGAs production begins, the Merchandisers and Technologists ensure that the range is produced to the right quality and delivered on time. Meanwhile, the Buyers and Designers turn their attention to the next season. Progressing: Approve colours, fabrics, trims. Review previous sales in line with selected ranges. Review visual merchandising with Market team. Confirm delivery dates.Product Launch: Product arrives into warehouse and delivered into stores. Then analyse initial sales and hope we have the right stock at right time in the right place at the right price!
Predominately covered by the buyers but merchandisers will provide information on expected volumes of a line (price may be cheaper for greater volume)Merchandisers will also roll up the margin – to keep buyers on track to achieve targetTop ranked lines margin will have greatest effect on the overall gross margin because buying more stockBetter prices may be given by supplier for volume in garment production or by mill, for fabric productionSupplier may also give a more attractive price in their ‘down time’ – a less busy time for the factory - to keep factory active and reduce ‘bottle’ necks later in high seasonFactory quiet times eg. Ramadam, Chinesse new year
