YEARBOOK
The 2014 season was quite a successful one for the Bulleen Templestowe District Junior football club and
everybody involved should feel proud of themselves. It is often said that Success has many fathers/mothers
and this proverb holds very true for us. We had many parents/non-parents, players & siblings participating
in every facet, to create such a successful outcome this year.
Congratulations to Michelle Lusk for receiving life membership and to Dave Sticca and Matt Agrotis for their
President’s Trophy and Club Person Of The Year awards respectively in recognition of the volume of service
in areas other than their own teams. We were also very fortunate to have the services of Les Voglis as our
Head of football, Sally Dite as Secretary and Garry Merrin as Treasurer this year. A huge thank you to Lucy,
Louise & Claire for their fantastic efforts this year in all social and fundraising aspects. Also to Michael
Blanchard for a superb job in keeping the grounds marked and ready for play each week.
To Michael Wiggins as our much deserving Coach Of The Year and to Jade Davidson who was recognised by
the Australian Football Coaches Association Central Region through AFL Victoria as Female Coach Of The
Year.
As per the above these are just a few of the many people involved in outstanding service to the club this
year. I would also like to recognise the Senior clubs efforts this year in supporting our teams in finals and
many home & away games throughout the year. It was great to see so many past players and parents
still wanting to be involved. It is poignant to note that Premierships are not our primary aim, they are just
the cream on the cake. While we should always be striving for them and celebrate them when they come,
Junior football is all about player development, both on and off the field. Our primary aim is to improve
every players football ability as well as their interpersonal and life skills, to create better footballers as well
as better people. And I can proudly state we passed with flying colours.
For the third time in four years, we added a new girls team to the club. Following on from the introduction
of the under 12's last season. Season 2014 saw the introduction of an under 15 girls team and we are confi-
dent of fielding 2 x U15 girls teams in season 2015. The girls teams have been a huge success primarily due
to the efforts of Nicole Wilson, Jade Davidson and Bruce Traplin. Thank you guys, the club is deeply indebt-
ed to you. We also had 19 players who finished in the top ten of this year's league Best &Fairest for their
divisions. With three players coming 3rd and a staggering four players (Daniel Walsh, Josh Sticca, Stephanie
Charakas & Callum Brown) who won their respective Best & Fairest. Congratulations to all, this is a testa-
ment to the success of all coaches across all age groups and all divisions. Of the 13 teams fielded this sea-
son, 11 were eligible to play finals. Six made finals with three making it all the way to their grand finals.
Congratulations to all our coaches & team managers for a great year. It often seems like a thankless job, so
let me say Thank You. Particular thanks this year to Mike Ceola who is finishing up after 7 years at the helm
of the Auskick programme and who has been instrumental in developing our Auskick programme to such a
success. Also to our finalists, Nick Moore and our under 10's, Tim Hansen and our under 12's and to Jade
Davidson and our under 12 girls.
In addition to having six teams playing finals & 19 top ten league B&F's, we also had 3 Grand Finalists, Con-
gratulations to Matt Agrotis and our under 14's team for a magnificent year. Congratulations to Michael
Wiggins and our under 15's premiership team for a magnificent year. And last but not least congratulations
to Andrew Brown and our premiership Colts team, who also had a magnificent year and many of whom fin-
ished up their junior football careers in a wonderful manner, reflecting the entire clubs outstanding year.

YEARBOOK
It is pleasing to report that the club has had a very successful year financially. For the year ending 30 Sep-
tember 2014 the club can report a surplus of funds of $14,216 – leaving the club with available funds of
$81,431.
The new 2015 committee will be focussed on Season 2015 and beyond with plans to ensure funds are spent
to benefit the junior club members and their families and to foster junior football in our community.
The major highlights for Season 2014 included:
An excellent return from our fund raising committee of Lucy Blanchard, Louise Dempsey and Claire McPad-
den – with a profit of over $20,000 from events organised during 2014. This included the Trivia Night, Ladies
Night, Tackers Day BBQ, Sunday night food, bread auction and the Chocolate Drive. Huge congratulations
must go to these ladies and their supporting families.
The Canteen realised a profit of $17,172 thanks to the excellent work of Connie and her weekly helpers
With the requirement for YJFL Logo shorts in 2014, a major investment was required for new shorts which
will keep us stocked up for the next season. Great work by Sue Sticca in looking after merchandise.
Bruce Traplin has once again completed a sterling job with the bar returning a net profit of $5,852
Registration & Match fees were higher in 2014 due to increased player numbers, an excellent reflection on
our club. My thanks to Fotini Agrotis for her work on registration.
The club has spent more in 2014 on team events (barbecues & end of season functions) and also the
presentation day. These events have generated excellent feedback from players and families.
The purchase of two Bullant marquees which were displayed on presentation day. These will be used at
club events in the future to promote our club and provide a visible point for gathering on events like Tackers
day.
Sponsorship contributions totalled $4,500 in 2014.
There is allowance in this report for $8,245 for provision of the upgraded storeroom and a new web-site
and related “APP” for IPhones and android devices. This work will be completed prior to Season 2015 and
expenditure has been approved by the committee.
The club is close to finalising receipt of a grant of $4,000 from Manningham Council to help us properly
outfit our girl’s teams with new jumpers for season 2015.
A general budget has been prepared for normal running costs and we are close to finalising a list of items
for proposed expenditure plans in Season 2015. This is a result of feedback from club members.
Anyone with any questions or requiring details about the clubs finances, or who has ideas for where funds
can be best spent can e-mail treasurer@thebullants.com.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank club president David Lusk and secretary Sally Dite and the oth-
er committee members for their support and tireless work in so many areas that make this club so success-
ful. And a major thank you to all players, families and supporters of the Bullants through the last season.

BTJFC Yearbook 2014—Tackers Blue
Well the 2014 season is over already. Another great year of football has come and gone with Tackers Blue
finishing the year off strongly.
I think the boys will be, and should be, very happy with the way they performed this year. From a coaches
and parental point of view I couldn't have been happier with the way the year went.
With some boys playing their second year of tackers to the rookies the boys came together as a team and
played some really good football. I think playing Tackers is really about teaching skills and having fun, so
along with the help of John Gray (ass. coach) I think we managed to achieve a good balance between the
two.
I think the boys ended the year playing better football than when they started and hopefully they all en-
joyed their experience enough to want to come back next year and play under 9's or under 10's.
I must say that its not easy to run a football team and without the help from parents with bringing the
boys to training and getting up early on a Sunday morning to volunteering for the various jobs that need
doing on a week to week basis, a special thanks to Roger Shepherd for being team manager, I think every-
one pitched in to make it a successful year.
Again I would like to thank the boys for letting me coach them and wish them all well for the future.
GO BULLANTS!!!

As a coach, I could not have asked for any more. When I took on both teams for the pre-season I felt a little
over whelmed, but with Roger and Graeme’s support we got through it largely unscathed. We persevered
to the season proper and chose to take on the younger aged side – aware that we would be up against it.
Football is a tough uncompromising game, we trained and directed the kids on how and what to do but ulti-
mately, once out on the field it is up to the individual and team to rise to the occasion… I can honestly say
every single kid delivered week in week out, the improvement from season start to finish was nothing short
of astounding!
As a tribute to the boys, below is a full list of players with a very brief description of their highlights/playing
style/personality in (Alphabetical order)
Axel Barbieri: Tough, single minded – winner of the Anzac Day “Ted Kelly” medal
Bailey Biondo: Broke his arm early on but came back strong for the last few games
Christian Prioetto: The smiling assassin, he flattened a kid then went up to see if he was OK
Daniel Bogovic: Used his height to take some of the most critical marks of the year
Daniel De Melis: Our first goal scorer for the year and grew to like it
Daniel Dempsey: Great aggression and speed.
Daniel Metallo: Quiet but determined and improved every week
Fraser Plain: Silky skills, a pleasure to coach
Joshua Cardinale: Raw talent, great endeavour
Koli Loto’anui: Punches out of the ruck further than most kids can kick
Lachie Sticca: A goal luvin’ candy man
Lucas Atkin: Can’t phase this kid, tough and uncompromising
Lucas Boniello: Moments of brilliance, unstoppable off half back
Matthew Grattan: Played one game with us and was awesome
Matthew Richings: Great determination and ball awareness
Max Donovan: Loves a high flying pack mark
Michael De Melis: Strong with a massive boot
Miguel Italia: Came on in leaps and bounds, great for team spirit
Oliver Pataki: Unassuming but very skill full footballer
Patrick Parnell: Considering his size he went in incredibly hard into every contest
Samuel Scarlett: As a young’un is a tough as any player out there
Valentino Palmarini: Only played the last 2 games but was one of the best on ground
Zac Di Cosmo: Calculated, tough and very skillfull
Thanks again for everyone’s help throughout the year, it made my job much easier and most importantly
the kid’s experience that much better. Adam Donovan (a very proud) Tackers Gold Coach

BTJFC Yearbook 2014—Under 10 Green
The season commenced with a great sense of anticipation for the Under 10 boys. The first year of exposure
to “competitive” footy, with official scoring, ladders and the prospect of finals. We had many boys step up
from the Tackers squad. In addition we welcomed a number of new players to the club, namely Daniel Mar-
tino, Robbie Cook, Songphon Somchai (aka Yor) and Daniel Brown.
From the outset, the objectives of the season were set – be committed at training and on game day – re-
spect for teammates, opponents and officials – and most importantly, enjoy the great game of Aussie Rules
footy. Within this framework, our player and team development focussed on giving the boys the chance to
learn various aspects of the game through playing a number of matches at different parts of the ground, be
it forward, centre, back or on-ball.
We nominated for Green division at the start of the season, being about mid range in a strong and expan-
sive YJFL competition. After a few weeks of pre-season training, it was good to finally play Round 1 at our
Bulleen Park home ground. Right from the outset of the season the team was extremely competitive,
starting with a 50 point win, albeit against a team that would subsequently drop down a division.
After a two week break for school holidays, we resumed with one of the highlight games of the season, the
Anzac Day Round. With a hard fought win again Preston at City Oval, the boys were quickly coming together
as a team unit. Congratulations to Daniel Walsh on being awarded the Ted Kelly Medal.
Round 4, the final of the grading games, saw our first loss for the season, in muddy conditions, against a
committed Heidelberg team. Consequently, we remained in Green division.
As the season progressed, we saw the boys continue to develop, both individually and as a team. Whilst we
were able to continue to post victories, there was never an easy win, with all opponents putting up tough
contests. Didn’t the boys like to sing the team song with gusto, arm in arm in the clubroom, after a win!!? At
the half way mark of the season, after Round 8, the boys had managed to notch up 7 wins.
In the second half of the season, the team continued to play some impressive footy, giving their family and
supporters plenty to cheer about. By the end of the home and away season, we finished clear second on
the ladder with 12 wins and 3 losses.
The opportunity to play finals was appreciated by the entire team, players, coaches and supporters alike,
however we were eventually knocked out in the Preliminary Final by Hawthorn Citizens, a great achieve-
ment nonetheless. I’m sure the experience of playing finals football will benefit the boys, and inspire them
to strive for further success in the future.
In looking back on the season, it is fantastic to consider how far the boys progressed, and the many high-
lights and fun times that were enjoyed together. Well done to all the players: Danny Moore (1), Daniel
Brown (2), Hamish McClean (3) Songphon Somchai (6), Christian Travaglini (9), Aaron Galapi (10), Thomas
Haikal (12), Daniel Walsh (14), Andre Bastasin (18), Daniel Martino (21), Diesel Barbieri (23), Riley McPadden
(24), Ben Richings (25), James Farrugia (26), Peter Andonopoulos (31), Zac Walsh (35), Robbie Cook (36),
Anthony Boussounis (38), Andrew Sinclair (50).
And a special thanks to our Assistant Coach David McClean, Team Manager Liam Walsh, and all those par-
ents and helpers that contributed each week. Bring on Season 2015!! Go Bullants!

It was a very enjoyable season for al l those involved in the Under 11 Red side.
The team started with some promise with a great victory over Balwyn Tigers. Unfortunately we lost a bit of
momentum for a several weeks with injury, illness and shortness in numbers.
The team however seemed to galvanise itself in the face of disappointment and as numbers returned to the
side, there was a marked improvement in training. This resulted in some mid-season success with stirring
wins over Fitzroy, Balwyn, Hawthorn and St Mary’s. This was a fantastic period of the season and a great
reward for the boys’ hard work at training and on game day. These wins put us in 4th
position with three
rounds to play and the opportunity to play finals.
Unfortunately, we had some issues with numbers and training dropped off and we were unable to win each
of our last 3 games meaning we finished in fifth place.
Overall there was some tremendous improvement in all of the boys with a number showing outstanding
development. Our mid field excelled all year and at times both the forward and backlines played very well.
The boys were an absolute pleasure to coach and I congratulate all of the boys for their participation in the
Red side during 2014!
Thank you to Ken Jones for his very capable support in his role as Assistant Coach and likewise to Michael
Issa who provided tremendous assistance at training. Thank you to Anthony Maugeri whom was an out-
standing team manager and enabled the team to function so well. Thank you also to Carlo Cortese for his
role as runner. Joe Cannatelli and Michael Nicolaci also provided tremendous support in numerous different
roles. And finally thank you to all of the parents of the boys who were always willing helpers.

What a great season of football we had in under 11 gold this season 2014
A well balanced Team was formed, comprising some new players. The new players in the team where James
Nadalin , Logan Bishop , Patrick Lallo , Josh McLeod , Daniel Poelsma, and Eric Kardum. Our pre-season train-
ing started in the middle of March and this was the start of moulding this young group of boys into a
“Team”.
We wanted to play a very attacking style of football this year where we would move the ball as quick as pos-
sible giving us the best chance of scoring. This meant our pre-season training would be about lots of new
drills, team confidence and getting all the players to believe in themselves.
Our first goal for the season was to be competitive in the four grading rounds so we would stay in gold divi-
sion. I wanted the boys to be challenged every week to get the best out of all the boys and improve as a
“Team”.
After the grading rounds we had won three games and had one loss so the season had got off to a great
start we were safe in gold division.
As a team our next goal was to win eight games for the season, I believed if we could achieve this we would
play finals football. As the season went on we played some great football and we were competitive with
every side in the competition. We even beat the team that won the Grand Final.
For us the season finished with seven wins and seven losses and a draw, my goal of finishing in the top four
fell two points short. What I can say is that the team played a very attacking style of football each week and
it was fantastic to watch.
As a “TEAM” we had some very special highlights with thirteen boys playing their 50th
game this season this
was suck a special moment for player, family and coach each time. The players: Lucas Agrotis, James
McArdle, Jack McLean, Terry Boukouvalas, Jake Donovan, James Nadalin, Gianni King, William Mignone,
Oshan Singhasena, Cody McKenzie, Nicholas Paolucci, Anthony Dell’orso, and Murphy Moore well done
boys.
The other big highlight was the Ted Kelly Award which was won by:Terry Boukouvalas this was a great
effort.
We would like to say a special thankyou to all the parents and families who helped out each week, and for
all your kind words of encouragement to our coaching team and to all of the players each week.
I must say a special thankyou to:
Jonathon – Team Manager, Norm – Assistant Coach, Yvette – Trainer, Aaron – Runner, Danny and Steve –
Water Carriers, and Hannah – Boundary Umpire , you guys made my job very easy each week.
And finally to all of the players you put the show on each week it was great to watch as a coach I could not
be more proud of you all the Sportsmanship you showed each week and the standard of Football was amaz-
ing it is hard to believe this was under 11 football I look forward to next year.
Thankyou

The season of 2014 has been a roller coaster ride for the Under 12 Green team, from our Round 1 loss to
Balywn to our come from behind win against traditional rivals, Ashburton, in the Semi Finals. Our best form
this season was sensational and led to us defeating eventual premiers Camberwell, smashing St Mary’s and
Glen Iris and courageous strong ‘revenge’ wins against Balwyn and Surrey Park. Ending up 3rd
with 10 wins
from 15 rounds is a result we can all be proud of and a credit to all the players for their commitment to self
and ‘coachability’.
Our stable defence was a highlight for me this season and was stoutly led by Darcy Pierce and Kynan Doug-
las, ably supported by Vincent Pikos, James Gavralas, Jeremy Argiros and Ellena Papatsanis and compliment-
ed by ‘swingmen’ Ante Filipovic, Swapnil Challa and James Varrasso. Our forward structure worked well
throughout the season with many multiple goal kickers leading to opposition coaches often noting our com-
bination of tall and small forwards were difficult to match up. Our tall forwards included Toby Hansen, An-
drew Andriopoulos, Tony So and Josh Presta and they were complimented by our mosquito fleet of Peter
Katiforis, Nathan Giovannucci and Josh Ayuob. Like any good team we rely on a ‘gold class’ mids which in-
cluded; Lachie McPadden, Joey Thatcher-Brenner, Zavier Vesnaver, Josh Sticca, Samir Hamzovski and Daniel
Peek.
I want to make special note of Tony So, who played his first ever year of football and will be a very good
player, Vincent Pikos, Kynan Douglas and Daniel Peek who transferred across to the Bullants from other
clubs and were terrific acquisitions and Swapnil Challa and Joshua Ayuob who were two former Bullants
who returned to the club and had very good seasons. I would also like to highlight some special achieve-
ments this year by Josh Sticca who won the YJFL Best & Fairest, Zavier Vesnaver who was invited to the met-
ro squad for the Under 12 Victorian Primary School trials and Swapnil Challa, Darcy Pierce, James Varrasso,
Joey Thatcher-Brener, Andrew Andriopoulos, Josh Sticca and Zavier Vesnaver who were invited to partici-
pate in the YJFL Development Program.
Thank-you to the team who helped me week in week. Bill Andriopoulos as my Assistant has become a good
mate and a great sounding board, Leigh Giovannucci as trainer gives generously of his time and is a great
club man, Marina Filipovic and John Pikos who shared the team managers duties working hard behind the
scenes and Peter Filipovic and Dave Sticca who ably shared the ‘Runner’ role.
Finally to whoever takes over this team in 2015, my advice is you have a great playing group who not only
have the potential to be a very good football team but most importantly they have already developed into
impressive young people.

After not having coached for nine years, I must admit I was a bit apprehensive about the coaching role.
What helps is having a great group of boys to coach and it didn’t take long to get back into the swing of
things.
It would be simple to assess a season on a simple mathematical percentage of wins and losses. What I was
looking for during the season was to have players instinctively kicking on both feet, taking risks by being cre-
ative, running both ways so that we can both build up our attacks and break down the opposition attacks,
challenging yourself at training and building on mateship. In most areas we made gains and next year we
will continue to build on the above areas, plus build in others.
I would like to thank the following people for their efforts, support and advice during the season:
Team Managers in Joanne and John Siviloglou. Your efforts, preparation and professionalism made things
run very smoothly.
Assistant Coach Dave Florance. The advice you gave the boys and myself was most helpful.
Head Trainer in Mark Cassidy. This for me is probably the most important position in each team and your
efforts to assist the boys with injuries is most appreciated.
To Barry Edwards, Glen Wignell, Sean Dempsey, Steve Galapi and Darren Sandford on helping out at training
at various times during the year.
To all the parents for taking on the various roles on match days. We all need to chip in where we can and
the boys appreciate your efforts.
Congratulations to the following players on their various achievements in 2014.
Jordan Jaworski on his selection in the Yarra Junior Football League Under 13 Development Squad and for
his first place in the Best & Fairest Award.
Dion Siviloglou on his second placing in the Best & Fairest Award.
Ethan Duncan on his third placing in the Best & Fairest Award.
Marcus Bogovic on winning the Ted Kelly Anzac Medal and the coaches award.
Jack Galapi on winning the Most Improved Award.
Congratulations to Marcus Bogovic, Jordan Jaworski, Arben Meka and Nicholas Voglis on reaching their 50
game milestone this season. Next season will also see a number of the boys playing their 100th
game for the
club. This will be a memorable and magnificent achievement and one you will always be proud of.
Under 14 football will present your first major change and challenge in football as you move towards 20 mi-
nute quarters. The other change you will notice is the faster speed of the game and for these reasons we
need to be ready. It will require you to go harder for longer. In order to do this it will require a far more sol-
id pre-season which will consist of two sessions per week. This will give you the foundation to build a good
season but having said that, you shouldn’t be waiting for pre-season to start off your fitness program for
2015. At this age you should be doing some running in the off season prior to pre-season training starting,
in order to have a better base to build on.
Bring on 2015. Les Voglis

What a season it has been for the Under 14 Bullants & in the blink of an eye it has come to an end. From our
first training session back in mid February when the boys came down a little unsure of what to expect to our
44th
session in Grand Final week much has happened & changed. The focus from the start was on getting as
many players as we could to as many sessions as possible, touching the balls as often as possible, while
building our fitness to maximum levels plus trying to create a positive & supportive team environment...a
simple plan for a simple game! On the whole the 22 boys on our list have learnt a lot this season & despite
not quite achieving the ultimate in winning the Grand Final can be extremely proud of their efforts over the
season & finals series. The individual & team improvement along the way has been immense. I am not one
for making rash statements or promises but at the start of the pre-season the one & only promise I did
make to the boys was that if they didn’t miss any pre-season sessions or got to as many as they possibly
could that they would have the best season they have ever had as far as enjoyment & performance goes.
This would underpin our season. I hope I fulfilled my part of the bargain as I know the boys did there bit. I
am extremely proud of your efforts & commitment during the season & am already looking forward to next
season & raising the bar to challenge the team further.
There were many positives to come out of the season, we welcomed five new players & families to the club
in Damian DeMelis, Ben Rodwell, Zac Spadafora, Shaun Tozer & Karl Wise, it’s great to have you all part of
the Bullants & your contributions to the team have been fantastic. We look forward to many more. Our
team work & pressure in many games was great to watch, the boys embraced the game plan early on & got
the season off to a flyer with 7 straight wins. Before having a slight mid season slump had us at the cross-
roads bring us back to the pack with 1 ½ wins from the next 5 games & the top 2 teams to play away in con-
secutive weeks! The boys showed tremendous character to refocus, play the hard team football we had
come to expect & come away with 2 convincing victories to get the season back on track & allow us to finish
the season on top of the ladder. This was definitely a turning point in our season & more importantly in our
development as a team...we showed we have what it takes. Along with our fantastic team work there were
also many outstanding individual performances that need to be recognised. Congratulations to all of the
following boys on being recognised & rewarded for your efforts over the year... 100 game milestones: Jake
Sticca, Robert Dipierdomenico, Joseph Ciranna, Tom Davis & Ben Rodwell 50 game milestones: Angus Dull-
ard, Jack Larsen. Ted Kelly ANZAC Day Medallist Robert Dipierdomenico; Joseph Ciranna on winning the
YJFL under 14 Best & Fairest award; Karl Wise on being the leading goal kicker for the competition with 44
goals, Calvin Goulopoulos for finishing equal 3rd
with 28 goals; There were four boys who earned represen-
tation in the YJFL under 14 Rep Squad: Joseph Ciranna, Karl Wise, Jake Sticca & Lachlan Postans; To all the
trophy winners congratulations on your consistency & hard work over the season: Best & Fairest Joseph Ci-
ranna, 2nd
B & F Tom Davis, 3rd
B & F Jake Sticca, Most Improved Aiden Glassborow, Coaches Award Anthony
De Propertis & Best in Finals Karl Wise.
Lastly I would like to specially thank our Team Manger Trevor Glassborow for all his efforts & most of all be-
ing the voice of reason & always keeping me on the straight & narrow, Pat Gullone my Assistant Coach for
all his support & assistance at training & on match days, to James Robertson for being our match day runner
(Robbo we would love you to do it again if you can)& finally to all the parent group for your support & will-
ingness to assist when required at training & on match days & also in getting the boys to where they needed
to be when required. Without everyone’s support & assistance there would be no team, so we now look
forward to next season where we can all do it again & continue to build on what we have started.

So many high’s and low’s throughout the season, but to finish winning the grand final was just amazing, it was so well
fought for and deserved by the boys. Who would believe after round 11 we were still sitting on the bottom of the lad-
der. We were in a hole but had a plan and ran with it. Well done lads, you will remember your win for a long time to
come. Enjoy – I’m still smiling. We kicked of the season early and what the boys may not have realized is this was
more about ensuring we fielded a team as against raising fitness levels. I had herd of a few of our guys leaving for oth-
er sports and so my thinking was if we could get in early, enticing our boys with a snag and drink after Thursday nights
training - have a bit of fun - then excellent. I wanted our guys going away for the Christmas break with it firm in their
minds that they would simply be back at Bullants once school recommences. Simple - Nothing else to think about
right! We also ran a social club most Friday nights for a bit of fun & help the boys bond better as a team. We decided to
run a pre season camp over the Labor Day weekend, which was fantastic. Not everyone could make it as many of our
boys had made Cricket finals. For those that did we all had a ripper time with some of the high lights been the Merrijig
Rodeo, rounding up sheep, riding the rail trail, knee boarding and tubing aswell as simply chilling out around the camp
fire with Monte strumming the guitar. Of course who would forget the mud fights. Thanks to Natalie & Laurie for all
your help. Can you believe it, Pat was unsure about coming back. What we as a team would have missed, what Pat
would have missed. A great team man and taking out this year’s Ted Kelly award, it was a sure reflection of how he
played every single game for us. Brent is very similar to Pat in putting his body on the line and most weeks neutralizing
the best player on the opposite side. Jayden also doubtful. (Not 100% but I think I got him with the pre-season camp).
Jayden showed he was a born leader this season and picked up the coaches award. Who could forget the push-ups he
made us all do at training. As coach there are some things you simply never forget and when Ben was knocked out
playing against Beverley Hills I was not confident, left wondering who would stand up & take control in what was a
must win game. So it was music to my ears when I herd Jayden rally the troops. He was loud & clear, demanding of our
boys that we don’t give up. This immediately gave me confidence that we would go on and win the match. We did win,
we had to win because that was our plan. The win ensured us second spot on the ladder & giving us a double chance in
the finals. Due to other commitments etc., we couldn’t get Mark, Rhys, Jordan or Monte back and of course we missed
Laura. Mark and Rhys helped fill in for us during the year along with Jeremy and Andy. We also called on some of the
under 14 boys who helped out when we were struggling to field a team. Thanks guys you all helped, playing a part in
our ultimate journey. To our new recruits that came along and just slotted in so easily. You guys were fantastic. We
had Joe, James, Mitch and off course, Francis. I am sure you guys got as much out of your the team as you gave. Great
bunch of fellas all really contributing. Thanks to our Captain, Ben (B&F) and both VC’s in Kingy (Runner Up in B&F +
Best in Finals) & Ceechy (2nd
Runner Up in B&F). You guys really contributed so much to your team in bringing back &
sharing your experiences gained at Oakley with the rest of the boys. You were chosen to lead your team by your peers
who look up and respect you. It’s a gift - don’t waste it. Congratulations to Ben for been selected to play in the metro
championships with the YJFL and earning best of series. Fantastic season also with Ceechy polling 5th
in the comp B&F
and Ben 3rd
. Lachie also polled very well for our team and really stood up this year. Growing in statue he was a great
asset for our team. Well done Lachie. We had so many more stories with Dylan (Most Improved) having a fantastic
season and really coming out of his shell. Luke stacker, one of the best & I am sure would have been in the B&F if did-
n’t miss so many weeks to injury. Max, Nadi and Nick all kicking some beautiful goals. Nicks 6 goals in the prelim was
one of the year’s high lights. Hadley, Marcus, Martin & Matty Pane all having wonderful seasons. We struggled to keep
Skivo & Brad going through out the season due to injuries but we got them there & they were excellent. I am sure, like
the rest of us, they got a lot out of it. Boys I am sure it became obvious in the end. The more we put in the more we
got out. It was no accident and that will apply throughout your life’s journey. Whether it’s in sport, school, work or
family – Learn from the experience it’s all the same.
Thanks to all the parents getting the boys to training and of course helping out every week in some role. A special
thanks goes to Vaughan, Natalie and Ron, Nesh aswell as Jackie & Laurie. Lastly to Kingy. Dave you were terrific this
year with Ron and Vaughan so busy in their other commitments I needed someone to fill the void and you did. Well
done – A HUGE THANKS. Mike Wiggins

2014 Page 33
BTJFC Yearbook 2014—Colts Division 2
The season started in Division 3 but soon we were realising that as a team we were far too strong for that competition.
We started the season with strong victories over St Damien’s (96 points), Boroondara Hawks (104 points), Glen Iris (54
points) and Preston (63 points). As a coach I always said that a winning margin of 80 points each week was not ac-
ceptable and would rather compete in closer contests in which the margin was much closer. A step up to division 2
didn’t always mean a closer result however we had teams at times that competed strongly with GDU, Whitehorse Colts
and Parkside quickly becoming our three main opponents for the year. By the time of our away game against GDU at
Doncaster we were guaranteed a top two finish in which we knew we would face GDU in our first final. This game had
a big crowd attend and both sides didn’t disappoint. We kicked three important first quarter goals but the game was
very tight throughout. In the third quarter Adrian Vidajic got injured which unfortunately put an end to his season. For
anyone that got down to watch Colts matches during the season would have been impressed by Adrian’s game. He has
safe hands in marking contests, leaps high, runs quickly out of the backline and really is a pleasure to watch out on the
field. James Dedes had a great second half when the ball finally bounced into his hands. Riley Verbi and Marcus Alessi
were great up forward and Fitzy and Jack Jordan were great down back.
Finals and in the semi-final we travelled to Koonung Reserve in Bulleen. With a strong wind going towards the car park
we won the toss and kicked with the wind. However we didn’t start the way we wanted and GDU came out of the
blocks kicking 5 goals in the first 10 minutes. Stunned and under pressure, we switched into gear with our midfielders
and forwards kicking 4 quick goals to get us back in the game on the scoreboard. Our second quarter was again tough.
We continued to be second for the ball and weren’t clean with our possession and GDU made us pay. They went in
with a 4 goals lead at half time. To the players’ credit at half time we asked for something special, a higher work rate
and each player came out in the third quarter ready to get us back in the match. We were able to pile on pressure,
goals and rattle GDU. However in the end their dominant first quarter was the difference, kicking some final quarter
goals to run away with a good victory. Some people would say it was the loss we needed. Others may not. The really
pleasing thing was that each player on that next Wednesday got to training and worked hard for the upcoming prelimi-
nary final against Whitehorse. Whilst we weren’t overly clean with possession early in the match we kicked 5 goals in
the first quarter and continued with that same pressure in the 2nd
quarter. As the game went on our superior fitness
allowed us to run away with the game. We came out 79 point winners in an even performance by all players.
This now brings us to the big match! Sunday 31st
August, 2014, blue skies and a big crowd at Bulleen Park Oval #1. Eve-
ryone was focussed and certainly pumped after Shealesy’s pre game rev up! But when the first ball bounced GDU con-
tinued like they did in the semi-final putting us under severe pressure. We made uncharacteristic errors down back and
allowed GDU to run the ball too easily. By half time we were 4 goals down, flat and needing something special!!! There
were two ways to respond. Either continue to allow GDU to dominate the game and lose by 60 points or have a crack
and see what we can do. They all certainly chose the right option! In similar scenes to the semi-final we came on in the
third quarter and went Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! And a few more! Liam Ireland got us going in the middle with his ruck
work. Josh Davis, Mason Giles, Callum Brown assisted in the middle getting the clearances and Matthew Capetola had
an incredible quarter. Seb Terriaca worked tirelessly up forward as did Seamus Troy playing further up the ground. We
had GDU rattled and looking to the bench for answers. The backline group of Jack, Jason, Steve, Tom, Nik and Seamus
kept GDU scoreless whilst up forward Marcus, Riley, Josh Daicos, Seb/Luke, Peter and Matt kicked 7.3 to have a 19
point lead at ¾ time. An incredible performance and the big crowd of mainly Bulleen-Templestowe supporters weren’t
disappointed. In the last quarter, GDU had the wind behind them. However GDU were shot, down on confidence and
we continually had opportunities to score. Our fitness again allowed us to finish the game off and we outscored GDU in
the last to win by 29 points. Congratulations to Liam Ireland for being named best on ground in the Grand Final for his
excellent 2nd
half of football. A fantastic comeback, win, never say die attitude and premiership victory!! Congratula-
tions to all the players, all 29 of them that played during the season. Whilst I don’t have the capacity to go through
individually with every player there are a few I would like to mention. Steve Fitzgerald and Mason Giles – Well done on
your captaincy during the season. Premiership captain has a nice ring to it! Marcus Alessi, Mason Giles, Matthew Cape-
tola – Congratulations to all three on being in the top 10 in the YJFL Division 2 Best and Fairest vote count. Callum
Brown – Congratulations for being named YJFL Colts Division 2 Best & Fairest winner for 2014. Also for being named in
the Colts Team of the Year!!! Special thankyous to all the parents for their assistance during the year in the various
roles that take place. In particular John Dedes and Lisa Gates for their efforts every single week to make it possible for
us to go on the field and play the game we love. They certainly make it easier for us coaches!
Congratulations to everyone on a great year! Andrew Browne

The season of 2014 has been a successful one for the Bullant’s Youth Girls. The start of the year saw some
challenges as we had a squad of approximately 30 players and after committee consultation it was decided
that the club would introduce an under 15’s team. So with a new squad winning 9 games, beating teams
who we hadn’t in previous seasons and just missing out on the finals indicates what a good season we had
in 2014.
This improvement was also demonstrated by our captain Lani Pane (BTDJFC Best & Fairest) who polled 3rd
best and fairest for the league and utility Tessa Zagontinos (2nd
BTDJFC Best & Fairest) and defender Dan-
ielle Polkinghorne representing the Yarra League at the 2014 state metro titles – which they won. These 3
players were complimented by the strong experience of our Youth Girls ‘veterans’; Georgina Robertson (Ted
Kelly Medalist & 3rd
BTDJFC Best & Fairest), Taylor Tocchetto, Maddie Cook, Jade Cleeland, Angie Wang, Na-
tarsha Vincent, Helena Dalakouras, Edmona Dalipi and Amy Hansen (2014 Most Improved). This core group
of players all improved again this season and will provide a sound base for future seasons and ultimately a
position in the final four.
Our recruiting this year led to four experienced players joining us from Warrandyte-Park Orchards. We were
well serviced by Ella Robison, Charity Lester, Danielle Polkinghorne and Micaela Bumpstead who fitted into
our team as though they had been there from the start and all contributed in a positive manner throughout
the year.
This experience was complimented by first year players; Pamela Ikosidekas (2014 Coaches Award), Sarah
Musker and Sheridan van Gelderen who all contributed throughout the season and demonstrated con-
sistent football prowess by the season end. All three girls have the potential to become very good football-
ers in future seasons.
With junior footy sadly there comes a time when we must say goodbye to our top age players; Taylor Toc-
chetto, Micaela Bumpstead and Ella Robison. We thank all 3 for their service to The Bullants and hope they
transition through to the newly formed senior girls team in 2015. A special note to our vice captain, ‘Tocci’,
who was not only our key forward for the last 3 years but through her enthusiasm holds a special place in
our team.
Finally thanks to the parents who helped out on match day and a special, big thank-you to the Youth Girls
‘Coaching Team’ in Bruce Traplin, (Team Manager), Rachael Traplin (Assistant Coach), Ron Pane (Runner),
Sue Robertson (Trainer) and Sesha Achilingam (Assistant Trainer) who made the coach’s role very easy and
were a big reason for our success this year.

With the success of our Under 12's & Youth Girls teams last year, and with girls footy growing at an enormous rate we
decided, after many hours of deliberation as to the logisitics of it all, to field our inaugural Under 15 Girls team into the
YJFL in 2014. Part of setting the team up was to ask girls who had previously played in the Youth comp who were eligi-
ble for the 15's this year to come and join us and to be our adopted leadership group for the year and for that we ex-
tend our sincerest thanks. With the season opener fast approaching we kicked off pre season training with the Youth
Girls as one group. It was soon apparent that this Under 15's group was going to be a force to be reckoned with this
year and with new players joining up every week the season was looking great. We kicked off our season with a game
against Glen Iris on a hot, windy day at Righetti Oval, we had about 13 players, they had 21 but we gave them a good
run for their money and we were pleased with our 1st game, making us realise we had made the right decision to field
this team this year. As we progressed through the season our numbers increased to give us a final list of 21 but with
injuries we were usually hovering around the 13 to 17 player mark each week, which made team selection a bit inter-
esting but we managed to get a pretty good mix of players in the right positions each week. Like all other teams we
had our ups and downs this year, our biggest down was against Kew Rovers where we lost by what seemed like a
gazzilion points, they smashed us everywhere that day and we were really hurt after that game, but we got our re-
venge, the last Home & Away we played them again, and with our girls absolutely determined to receive redemption
we knocked them off in one of the best games of defensive footy ever played in the world!!!!! The brickwork at Bulleen
Park was rattling as we sang the song that day, this showed everyone how far we had come. Some player highlights for
the year: Sophie - put in 100% every time she played and gave her all. Mia - battled on with a neck injury which forced
her to retire during the season but was very effective. Steffie - WOW what a player, simply brilliant all year which saw
her win the YJFL B&F and Bullants Runner Up for the season. Antoinette - where have you been for the last 3 years????
never played before but played like a seasoned player, and can hold her head up high as being the only girl in the YJFL
to be on the receiveing end of a ball in the face of a full powered kick from Szigetts!. Leonie, a Youth Girl who came
down to help lead the team and was pivotal when on the ground. Shenae - Brilliant, simply brilliant in defence and
saved many goals, and games, for us, also won the Club B&F for the year. Jaclyn - Smiley, always happy and had a
fierce hunger for the ball, could adapt to playing anywhere!. Salena - a 1st time player who developed her skills very
well during the year. Maddie - Superstar, this girl was one of the hardest workers both on the field and at training, and
ended up being one of our key defenders, if Maddie got you, she never let go!!. Well done on winning the Most Im-
proved for 2014. Pow, another Youth Girl who came down to play, always an honest effort at training and on the
ground. Vicky - another toughy who had some oppositioon players rattled with her strength and attack at the footy.
Imi - a recruit from Warrandyte, and what a recruit she was, fantastic efforts at training and on the ground, can mark
and kick and not affraid to have a crack. Joyceline - what a find, very strong and able player who listened to what she
was told and was another girl who could play anywhwere. Laura Mayne - played in Under 12's last year and blew us
away with her abailty and improvement this year, well done. Kate " Captain" Oxley - another Youth Girl who swas giv-
en the job of leadiong the team on the field and did it with greatness. A true leader who supported all her team mates
and also had a very good year as a player too!. Steph - played under 12's last year and settled in to this team very well,
great efforts at the ball and the contests. Georgia - again another Under 12 from last year, a girl who applies herself
well to everything she does, and played her heart out in every position we put her in and thoroughly deserved the
Coaches Award this year. Robbo - what can we say, a superstar who wrecked her knee mid season doing crazy danc-
ing!! Was a great help and provided valuable advice as Assistant Coach and took on the role of Coach when Rach start-
ed playing in the last few games. Lauren - Superstar, has played Rep footy and was dogged with injury, but when she
did play..........WOW, nothing more needs to be said here!! Emma - another girl who has been missing for the past few
years!! A very quiet and unassuming girl who goes nuts when she crosses that white line, one of our fastest runners
and layed some seriously fierce tackles, a pint sized rocket!! Well done Em, you were awesome. Rachy - broker her
wrist in the 1st ruck of the 1st quarter of the 1st game, took on ther role of Coach and did a pretty good job. Came
back in the last few rounds and showed just what we missed during the year, well done Rach, a tough job done very
well!! To all of our helpers this year, sincerest thanks. Special mention to Matt for running the Boundary every week,
to Vaughan and Bridgit for manipulating yourselves between games to help out, and to our girls other Mum, Susie Rob-
ertson, for being a fantastic Trainer, Medic and mentor to all of our girls. To the girls from the Under 12's who helped
out when they could and to Amy from Youth Girls who played a number of games with us, a big Thank You. To our
girls who represented the YJFL in the Metro Championships, well done - Shenae, Imi, Joyceline and "captain" Kate. To
Brendan Fall, your support of this fantastic club is greatly appreciated. Finally, thank you girls for making all of us smile
each week. Bruce Traplin

BTDJFC Yearbook 2014—U12 Girls
Well what a year 2014 has been for Girls Football. We started of with the introduction of the U15's team
meaning we were going to lose a number of players who had been with the girls throughout the 2013 sea-
son. Much to everyone's disbelief, we were going to have to let them go and get straight into pre season
training and start to develop players to fill their shoes, and did they do just that!!!! From the very first train-
ing session, we had master recruiter Jackie bringing in new girls left, right and centre, and by the end of the
season we had a squad over 20! This was absolutely perfect as we all saw throughout the season, injuries
and sickness took its toll (plus the odd holiday takers, or two). Throughout the season, I saw some amazing
plays and some we even nicknamed (like Mei-Ling's Dodge and Charge) and we saw a lot of brilliant team
work. This year the team bonded more that last and amazing friendships were formed.
Now let’s get into some game talk! This season was a very successful one as our U12 girls played 17 games
(including finals) and won 13 of them! I am very proud of that number especially when their highest losing
margin in the regular season was 4 points against Kew Comets and in finals against St Mary's with a loss of 8
points...THATS AMAZING! What was even more amazing was our highest EVER winning margin! I'm sure
everyone could remember that day over at Alfred Crescent against Fitzroy where we got over the 100 point
line and won by 96 points. That was a good day!
With the season ending in a loss in the prelim, I knew that the girls going to U15 next year were going to
have a great year and do great things. And for those of you who are (hopefully) stuck with me, I am so excit-
ed about season 2105 already and I can't wait to get stuck back into pre-season training!
Thank you to everyone who has supported me this year including Rach, Bruce, Matt, Craig, Karen, Jackie and
the whole of the parent group. Your kind words always strike me and nearly brings tears to my eyes. Every
time you tell me how much your child is developing, in and out of football, it reassures me that the reason I
do what I do is because I love to see the girls happy, healthy and enjoying such an amazing sport. I know
that football has done great things for me in the past and I hope the girls can see that its not only a game,
but it’s a way of gaining new life experiences and friends that they will cherish like I did.
To my beautiful girls, Good luck to those of you moving up to the U15's and I hope you will still come and
support your friends in U12 and please don't forget your favourite coach (and friend). And for you lovely
young ones, let’s make next year an even better one than this one!!!!! BRING IT ON!!

Bulleen Templestowe District Junior Football Club 20142014 YEARBOOK BULLEENTEMPLESTOWEDISTRICTJUNIORFOOTBALLCLUB 2014 Yearbook The Bulleen Templestowe District Junior Football Club is affiliated with the Bulleen Templestowe Sports Club, assisting and promoting the three Bulleen Templestowe sporting clubs in the City of Manningham. Bulleen Templestowe Cricket Club, Bulleen Templestowe Amateur Football Club, Bulleen Templestowe District Junior Football Club. Three Clubs, One Name, One Bullants! Bringing you junior football since 1963
  • 2. Page 2 BTDJFC Yearbook 2014—President’s Report YEARBOOK The 2014 season was quite a successful one for the Bulleen Templestowe District Junior football club and everybody involved should feel proud of themselves. It is often said that Success has many fathers/mothers and this proverb holds very true for us. We had many parents/non-parents, players & siblings participating in every facet, to create such a successful outcome this year. Congratulations to Michelle Lusk for receiving life membership and to Dave Sticca and Matt Agrotis for their President’s Trophy and Club Person Of The Year awards respectively in recognition of the volume of service in areas other than their own teams. We were also very fortunate to have the services of Les Voglis as our Head of football, Sally Dite as Secretary and Garry Merrin as Treasurer this year. A huge thank you to Lucy, Louise & Claire for their fantastic efforts this year in all social and fundraising aspects. Also to Michael Blanchard for a superb job in keeping the grounds marked and ready for play each week. To Michael Wiggins as our much deserving Coach Of The Year and to Jade Davidson who was recognised by the Australian Football Coaches Association Central Region through AFL Victoria as Female Coach Of The Year. As per the above these are just a few of the many people involved in outstanding service to the club this year. I would also like to recognise the Senior clubs efforts this year in supporting our teams in finals and many home & away games throughout the year. It was great to see so many past players and parents still wanting to be involved. It is poignant to note that Premierships are not our primary aim, they are just the cream on the cake. While we should always be striving for them and celebrate them when they come, Junior football is all about player development, both on and off the field. Our primary aim is to improve every players football ability as well as their interpersonal and life skills, to create better footballers as well as better people. And I can proudly state we passed with flying colours. For the third time in four years, we added a new girls team to the club. Following on from the introduction of the under 12's last season. Season 2014 saw the introduction of an under 15 girls team and we are confi- dent of fielding 2 x U15 girls teams in season 2015. The girls teams have been a huge success primarily due to the efforts of Nicole Wilson, Jade Davidson and Bruce Traplin. Thank you guys, the club is deeply indebt- ed to you. We also had 19 players who finished in the top ten of this year's league Best &Fairest for their divisions. With three players coming 3rd and a staggering four players (Daniel Walsh, Josh Sticca, Stephanie Charakas & Callum Brown) who won their respective Best & Fairest. Congratulations to all, this is a testa- ment to the success of all coaches across all age groups and all divisions. Of the 13 teams fielded this sea- son, 11 were eligible to play finals. Six made finals with three making it all the way to their grand finals. Congratulations to all our coaches & team managers for a great year. It often seems like a thankless job, so let me say Thank You. Particular thanks this year to Mike Ceola who is finishing up after 7 years at the helm of the Auskick programme and who has been instrumental in developing our Auskick programme to such a success. Also to our finalists, Nick Moore and our under 10's, Tim Hansen and our under 12's and to Jade Davidson and our under 12 girls. In addition to having six teams playing finals & 19 top ten league B&F's, we also had 3 Grand Finalists, Con- gratulations to Matt Agrotis and our under 14's team for a magnificent year. Congratulations to Michael Wiggins and our under 15's premiership team for a magnificent year. And last but not least congratulations to Andrew Brown and our premiership Colts team, who also had a magnificent year and many of whom fin- ished up their junior football careers in a wonderful manner, reflecting the entire clubs outstanding year.

  • 8. Page 8 BTJFC Yearbook 2014—Treasurer’s Report YEARBOOK It is pleasing to report that the club has had a very successful year financially. For the year ending 30 Sep- tember 2014 the club can report a surplus of funds of $14,216 – leaving the club with available funds of $81,431. The new 2015 committee will be focussed on Season 2015 and beyond with plans to ensure funds are spent to benefit the junior club members and their families and to foster junior football in our community. The major highlights for Season 2014 included: An excellent return from our fund raising committee of Lucy Blanchard, Louise Dempsey and Claire McPad- den – with a profit of over $20,000 from events organised during 2014. This included the Trivia Night, Ladies Night, Tackers Day BBQ, Sunday night food, bread auction and the Chocolate Drive. Huge congratulations must go to these ladies and their supporting families. The Canteen realised a profit of $17,172 thanks to the excellent work of Connie and her weekly helpers With the requirement for YJFL Logo shorts in 2014, a major investment was required for new shorts which will keep us stocked up for the next season. Great work by Sue Sticca in looking after merchandise. Bruce Traplin has once again completed a sterling job with the bar returning a net profit of $5,852 Registration & Match fees were higher in 2014 due to increased player numbers, an excellent reflection on our club. My thanks to Fotini Agrotis for her work on registration. The club has spent more in 2014 on team events (barbecues & end of season functions) and also the presentation day. These events have generated excellent feedback from players and families. The purchase of two Bullant marquees which were displayed on presentation day. These will be used at club events in the future to promote our club and provide a visible point for gathering on events like Tackers day. Sponsorship contributions totalled $4,500 in 2014. There is allowance in this report for $8,245 for provision of the upgraded storeroom and a new web-site and related “APP” for IPhones and android devices. This work will be completed prior to Season 2015 and expenditure has been approved by the committee. The club is close to finalising receipt of a grant of $4,000 from Manningham Council to help us properly outfit our girl’s teams with new jumpers for season 2015. A general budget has been prepared for normal running costs and we are close to finalising a list of items for proposed expenditure plans in Season 2015. This is a result of feedback from club members. Anyone with any questions or requiring details about the clubs finances, or who has ideas for where funds can be best spent can e-mail treasurer@thebullants.com. I would like to take this opportunity to thank club president David Lusk and secretary Sally Dite and the oth- er committee members for their support and tireless work in so many areas that make this club so success- ful. And a major thank you to all players, families and supporters of the Bullants through the last season.

  • 15. 2014 Page 15 BTJFC Yearbook 2014—Tackers Blue Well the 2014 season is over already. Another great year of football has come and gone with Tackers Blue finishing the year off strongly. I think the boys will be, and should be, very happy with the way they performed this year. From a coaches and parental point of view I couldn't have been happier with the way the year went. With some boys playing their second year of tackers to the rookies the boys came together as a team and played some really good football. I think playing Tackers is really about teaching skills and having fun, so along with the help of John Gray (ass. coach) I think we managed to achieve a good balance between the two. I think the boys ended the year playing better football than when they started and hopefully they all en- joyed their experience enough to want to come back next year and play under 9's or under 10's. I must say that its not easy to run a football team and without the help from parents with bringing the boys to training and getting up early on a Sunday morning to volunteering for the various jobs that need doing on a week to week basis, a special thanks to Roger Shepherd for being team manager, I think every- one pitched in to make it a successful year. Again I would like to thank the boys for letting me coach them and wish them all well for the future. GO BULLANTS!!! Brendan Fry

  • 17. 2014 Page 17 BTJFC Yearbook 2014—Tackers Gold As a coach, I could not have asked for any more. When I took on both teams for the pre-season I felt a little over whelmed, but with Roger and Graeme’s support we got through it largely unscathed. We persevered to the season proper and chose to take on the younger aged side – aware that we would be up against it. Football is a tough uncompromising game, we trained and directed the kids on how and what to do but ulti- mately, once out on the field it is up to the individual and team to rise to the occasion… I can honestly say every single kid delivered week in week out, the improvement from season start to finish was nothing short of astounding! As a tribute to the boys, below is a full list of players with a very brief description of their highlights/playing style/personality in (Alphabetical order) Axel Barbieri: Tough, single minded – winner of the Anzac Day “Ted Kelly” medal Bailey Biondo: Broke his arm early on but came back strong for the last few games Christian Prioetto: The smiling assassin, he flattened a kid then went up to see if he was OK Daniel Bogovic: Used his height to take some of the most critical marks of the year Daniel De Melis: Our first goal scorer for the year and grew to like it Daniel Dempsey: Great aggression and speed. Daniel Metallo: Quiet but determined and improved every week Fraser Plain: Silky skills, a pleasure to coach Joshua Cardinale: Raw talent, great endeavour Koli Loto’anui: Punches out of the ruck further than most kids can kick Lachie Sticca: A goal luvin’ candy man Lucas Atkin: Can’t phase this kid, tough and uncompromising Lucas Boniello: Moments of brilliance, unstoppable off half back Matthew Grattan: Played one game with us and was awesome Matthew Richings: Great determination and ball awareness Max Donovan: Loves a high flying pack mark Michael De Melis: Strong with a massive boot Miguel Italia: Came on in leaps and bounds, great for team spirit Oliver Pataki: Unassuming but very skill full footballer Patrick Parnell: Considering his size he went in incredibly hard into every contest Samuel Scarlett: As a young’un is a tough as any player out there Valentino Palmarini: Only played the last 2 games but was one of the best on ground Zac Di Cosmo: Calculated, tough and very skillfull Thanks again for everyone’s help throughout the year, it made my job much easier and most importantly the kid’s experience that much better. • 19. 2014 Page 19 BTJFC Yearbook 2014—Under 10 Green The season commenced with a great sense of anticipation for the Under 10 boys. The first year of exposure to “competitive” footy, with official scoring, ladders and the prospect of finals. We had many boys step up from the Tackers squad. In addition we welcomed a number of new players to the club, namely Daniel Mar- tino, Robbie Cook, Songphon Somchai (aka Yor) and Daniel Brown. From the outset, the objectives of the season were set – be committed at training and on game day – re- spect for teammates, opponents and officials – and most importantly, enjoy the great game of Aussie Rules footy. Within this framework, our player and team development focussed on giving the boys the chance to learn various aspects of the game through playing a number of matches at different parts of the ground, be it forward, centre, back or on-ball. We nominated for Green division at the start of the season, being about mid range in a strong and expan- sive YJFL competition. After a few weeks of pre-season training, it was good to finally play Round 1 at our Bulleen Park home ground. Right from the outset of the season the team was extremely competitive, starting with a 50 point win, albeit against a team that would subsequently drop down a division. After a two week break for school holidays, we resumed with one of the highlight games of the season, the Anzac Day Round. With a hard fought win again Preston at City Oval, the boys were quickly coming together as a team unit. Congratulations to Daniel Walsh on being awarded the Ted Kelly Medal. Round 4, the final of the grading games, saw our first loss for the season, in muddy conditions, against a committed Heidelberg team. Consequently, we remained in Green division. As the season progressed, we saw the boys continue to develop, both individually and as a team. Whilst we were able to continue to post victories, there was never an easy win, with all opponents putting up tough contests. Didn’t the boys like to sing the team song with gusto, arm in arm in the clubroom, after a win!!? At the half way mark of the season, after Round 8, the boys had managed to notch up 7 wins. In the second half of the season, the team continued to play some impressive footy, giving their family and supporters plenty to cheer about. By the end of the home and away season, we finished clear second on the ladder with 12 wins and 3 losses. The opportunity to play finals was appreciated by the entire team, players, coaches and supporters alike, however we were eventually knocked out in the Preliminary Final by Hawthorn Citizens, a great achieve- ment nonetheless. I’m sure the experience of playing finals football will benefit the boys, and inspire them to strive for further success in the future. In looking back on the season, it is fantastic to consider how far the boys progressed, and the many high- lights and fun times that were enjoyed together. Well done to all the players: Danny Moore (1), Daniel Brown (2), Hamish McClean (3) Songphon Somchai (6), Christian Travaglini (9), Aaron Galapi (10), Thomas Haikal (12), Daniel Walsh (14), Andre Bastasin (18), Daniel Martino (21), Diesel Barbieri (23), Riley McPadden (24), Ben Richings (25), James Farrugia (26), Peter Andonopoulos (31), Zac Walsh (35), Robbie Cook (36), Anthony Boussounis (38), Andrew Sinclair (50). And a special thanks to our Assistant Coach David McClean, Team Manager Liam Walsh, and all those par- ents and helpers that contributed each week. Bring on Season 2015!! Go Bullants! Nic Moore

  • 21. 2014 Page 21 BTJFC Yearbook 2014—Under 11 Red It was a very enjoyable season for al l those involved in the Under 11 Red side. The team started with some promise with a great victory over Balwyn Tigers. Unfortunately we lost a bit of momentum for a several weeks with injury, illness and shortness in numbers. The team however seemed to galvanise itself in the face of disappointment and as numbers returned to the side, there was a marked improvement in training. This resulted in some mid-season success with stirring wins over Fitzroy, Balwyn, Hawthorn and St Mary’s. This was a fantastic period of the season and a great reward for the boys’ hard work at training and on game day. These wins put us in 4th position with three rounds to play and the opportunity to play finals. Unfortunately, we had some issues with numbers and training dropped off and we were unable to win each of our last 3 games meaning we finished in fifth place. Overall there was some tremendous improvement in all of the boys with a number showing outstanding development. Our mid field excelled all year and at times both the forward and backlines played very well. The boys were an absolute pleasure to coach and I congratulate all of the boys for their participation in the Red side during 2014! Thank you to Ken Jones for his very capable support in his role as Assistant Coach and likewise to Michael Issa who provided tremendous assistance at training. Thank you to Anthony Maugeri whom was an out- standing team manager and enabled the team to function so well. Thank you also to Carlo Cortese for his role as runner. Joe Cannatelli and Michael Nicolaci also provided tremendous support in numerous different roles. And finally thank you to all of the parents of the boys who were always willing helpers. • 23. 2014 Page 23 BTJFC Yearbook 2014—Under 11 Gold What a great season of football we had in under 11 gold this season 2014 A well balanced Team was formed, comprising some new players. The new players in the team where James Nadalin , Logan Bishop , Patrick Lallo , Josh McLeod , Daniel Poelsma, and Eric Kardum. Our pre-season train- ing started in the middle of March and this was the start of moulding this young group of boys into a “Team”. We wanted to play a very attacking style of football this year where we would move the ball as quick as pos- sible giving us the best chance of scoring. This meant our pre-season training would be about lots of new drills, team confidence and getting all the players to believe in themselves. Our first goal for the season was to be competitive in the four grading rounds so we would stay in gold divi- sion. I wanted the boys to be challenged every week to get the best out of all the boys and improve as a “Team”. After the grading rounds we had won three games and had one loss so the season had got off to a great start we were safe in gold division. As a team our next goal was to win eight games for the season, I believed if we could achieve this we would play finals football. As the season went on we played some great football and we were competitive with every side in the competition. We even beat the team that won the Grand Final. For us the season finished with seven wins and seven losses and a draw, my goal of finishing in the top four fell two points short. What I can say is that the team played a very attacking style of football each week and it was fantastic to watch. As a “TEAM” we had some very special highlights with thirteen boys playing their 50th game this season this was suck a special moment for player, family and coach each time. The players: Lucas Agrotis, James McArdle, Jack McLean, Terry Boukouvalas, Jake Donovan, James Nadalin, Gianni King, William Mignone, Oshan Singhasena, Cody McKenzie, Nicholas Paolucci, Anthony Dell’orso, and Murphy Moore well done boys. The other big highlight was the Ted Kelly Award which was won by:Terry Boukouvalas this was a great effort. We would like to say a special thankyou to all the parents and families who helped out each week, and for all your kind words of encouragement to our coaching team and to all of the players each week. I must say a special thankyou to: Jonathon – Team Manager, Norm – Assistant Coach, Yvette – Trainer, Aaron – Runner, Danny and Steve – Water Carriers, and Hannah – Boundary Umpire , you guys made my job very easy each week. And finally to all of the players you put the show on each week it was great to watch as a coach I could not be more proud of you all the Sportsmanship you showed each week and the standard of Football was amaz- ing it is hard to believe this was under 11 football I look forward to next year. Thankyou Colin McArdle

  • 25. 2014 Page 25 BTJFC Yearbook 2014—Under 12 Green The season of 2014 has been a roller coaster ride for the Under 12 Green team, from our Round 1 loss to Balywn to our come from behind win against traditional rivals, Ashburton, in the Semi Finals. Our best form this season was sensational and led to us defeating eventual premiers Camberwell, smashing St Mary’s and Glen Iris and courageous strong ‘revenge’ wins against Balwyn and Surrey Park. Ending up 3rd with 10 wins from 15 rounds is a result we can all be proud of and a credit to all the players for their commitment to self and ‘coachability’. Our stable defence was a highlight for me this season and was stoutly led by Darcy Pierce and Kynan Doug- las, ably supported by Vincent Pikos, James Gavralas, Jeremy Argiros and Ellena Papatsanis and compliment- ed by ‘swingmen’ Ante Filipovic, Swapnil Challa and James Varrasso. Our forward structure worked well throughout the season with many multiple goal kickers leading to opposition coaches often noting our com- bination of tall and small forwards were difficult to match up. Our tall forwards included Toby Hansen, An- drew Andriopoulos, Tony So and Josh Presta and they were complimented by our mosquito fleet of Peter Katiforis, Nathan Giovannucci and Josh Ayuob. Like any good team we rely on a ‘gold class’ mids which in- cluded; Lachie McPadden, Joey Thatcher-Brenner, Zavier Vesnaver, Josh Sticca, Samir Hamzovski and Daniel Peek. I want to make special note of Tony So, who played his first ever year of football and will be a very good player, Vincent Pikos, Kynan Douglas and Daniel Peek who transferred across to the Bullants from other clubs and were terrific acquisitions and Swapnil Challa and Joshua Ayuob who were two former Bullants who returned to the club and had very good seasons. I would also like to highlight some special achieve- ments this year by Josh Sticca who won the YJFL Best & Fairest, Zavier Vesnaver who was invited to the met- ro squad for the Under 12 Victorian Primary School trials and Swapnil Challa, Darcy Pierce, James Varrasso, Joey Thatcher-Brener, Andrew Andriopoulos, Josh Sticca and Zavier Vesnaver who were invited to partici- pate in the YJFL Development Program. Thank-you to the team who helped me week in week. Bill Andriopoulos as my Assistant has become a good mate and a great sounding board, Leigh Giovannucci as trainer gives generously of his time and is a great club man, Marina Filipovic and John Pikos who shared the team managers duties working hard behind the scenes and Peter Filipovic and Dave Sticca who ably shared the ‘Runner’ role. Finally to whoever takes over this team in 2015, my advice is you have a great playing group who not only have the potential to be a very good football team but most importantly they have already developed into impressive young people. Tim Hansen

  • 27. 2014 Page 27 BTJFC Yearbook 2014—Under 13 Green After not having coached for nine years, I must admit I was a bit apprehensive about the coaching role. What helps is having a great group of boys to coach and it didn’t take long to get back into the swing of things. It would be simple to assess a season on a simple mathematical percentage of wins and losses. What I was looking for during the season was to have players instinctively kicking on both feet, taking risks by being cre- ative, running both ways so that we can both build up our attacks and break down the opposition attacks, challenging yourself at training and building on mateship. In most areas we made gains and next year we will continue to build on the above areas, plus build in others. I would like to thank the following people for their efforts, support and advice during the season: Team Managers in Joanne and John Siviloglou. Your efforts, preparation and professionalism made things run very smoothly. Assistant Coach Dave Florance. The advice you gave the boys and myself was most helpful. Head Trainer in Mark Cassidy. This for me is probably the most important position in each team and your efforts to assist the boys with injuries is most appreciated. To Barry Edwards, Glen Wignell, Sean Dempsey, Steve Galapi and Darren Sandford on helping out at training at various times during the year. To all the parents for taking on the various roles on match days. We all need to chip in where we can and the boys appreciate your efforts. Congratulations to the following players on their various achievements in 2014. Jordan Jaworski on his selection in the Yarra Junior Football League Under 13 Development Squad and for his first place in the Best & Fairest Award. Congratulations to Marcus Bogovic, Jordan Jaworski, Arben Meka and Nicholas Voglis on reaching their 50 game milestone this season. Next season will also see a number of the boys playing their 100th game for the club. This will be a memorable and magnificent achievement and one you will always be proud of. Under 14 football will present your first major change and challenge in football as you move towards 20 mi- nute quarters. The other change you will notice is the faster speed of the game and for these reasons we need to be ready. It will require you to go harder for longer. In order to do this it will require a far more sol- id pre-season which will consist of two sessions per week. This will give you the foundation to build a good season but having said that, you shouldn’t be waiting for pre-season to start off your fitness program for 2015. At this age you should be doing some running in the off season prior to pre-season training starting, in order to have a better base to build on. Bring on 2015. Les Voglis

  • 29. 2014 Page 29 BTJFC Yearbook 2014—Under 14 Brown What a season it has been for the Under 14 Bullants & in the blink of an eye it has come to an end. From our first training session back in mid February when the boys came down a little unsure of what to expect to our 44th session in Grand Final week much has happened & changed. The focus from the start was on getting as many players as we could to as many sessions as possible, touching the balls as often as possible, while building our fitness to maximum levels plus trying to create a positive & supportive team environment...a simple plan for a simple game! On the whole the 22 boys on our list have learnt a lot this season & despite not quite achieving the ultimate in winning the Grand Final can be extremely proud of their efforts over the season & finals series. The individual & team improvement along the way has been immense. I am not one for making rash statements or promises but at the start of the pre-season the one & only promise I did make to the boys was that if they didn’t miss any pre-season sessions or got to as many as they possibly could that they would have the best season they have ever had as far as enjoyment & performance goes. This would underpin our season. I hope I fulfilled my part of the bargain as I know the boys did there bit. I am extremely proud of your efforts & commitment during the season & am already looking forward to next season & raising the bar to challenge the team further. There were many positives to come out of the season, we welcomed five new players & families to the club in Damian DeMelis, Ben Rodwell, Zac Spadafora, Shaun Tozer & Karl Wise, it’s great to have you all part of the Bullants & your contributions to the team have been fantastic. We look forward to many more. Our team work & pressure in many games was great to watch, the boys embraced the game plan early on & got the season off to a flyer with 7 straight wins. Before having a slight mid season slump had us at the cross- roads bring us back to the pack with 1 ½ wins from the next 5 games & the top 2 teams to play away in con- secutive weeks! The boys showed tremendous character to refocus, play the hard team football we had come to expect & come away with 2 convincing victories to get the season back on track & allow us to finish the season on top of the ladder. This was definitely a turning point in our season & more importantly in our development as a team...we showed we have what it takes. Along with our fantastic team work there were also many outstanding individual performances that need to be recognised. Congratulations to all of the following boys on being recognised & rewarded for your efforts over the year... 100 game milestones: Jake Sticca, Robert Dipierdomenico, Joseph Ciranna, Tom Davis & Ben Rodwell 50 game milestones: Angus Dull- ard, Jack Larsen. Ted Kelly ANZAC Day Medallist Robert Dipierdomenico; Joseph Ciranna on winning the YJFL under 14 Best & Fairest award; Karl Wise on being the leading goal kicker for the competition with 44 goals, Calvin Goulopoulos for finishing equal 3rd with 28 goals; There were four boys who earned represen- tation in the YJFL under 14 Rep Squad: Joseph Ciranna, Karl Wise, Jake Sticca & Lachlan Postans; To all the trophy winners congratulations on your consistency & hard work over the season: Best & Fairest Joseph Ci- ranna, 2nd B & F Tom Davis, 3rd B & F Jake Sticca, Most Improved Aiden Glassborow, Coaches Award Anthony De Propertis & Best in Finals Karl Wise. Lastly I would like to specially thank our Team Manger Trevor Glassborow for all his efforts & most of all be- ing the voice of reason & always keeping me on the straight & narrow, Pat Gullone my Assistant Coach for all his support & assistance at training & on match days, to James Robertson for being our match day runner (Robbo we would love you to do it again if you can)& finally to all the parent group for your support & will- ingness to assist when required at training & on match days & also in getting the boys to where they needed to be when required. Without everyone’s support & assistance there would be no team, so we now look forward to next season where we can all do it again & continue to build on what we have started. Matthew Agrotis

  • 31. 2014 Page 31 BTJFC Yearbook 2014—Under 15 Division 2 So many high’s and low’s throughout the season, but to finish winning the grand final was just amazing, it was so well fought for and deserved by the boys. Who would believe after round 11 we were still sitting on the bottom of the lad- der. We were in a hole but had a plan and ran with it. Well done lads, you will remember your win for a long time to come. Enjoy – I’m still smiling. We kicked of the season early and what the boys may not have realized is this was more about ensuring we fielded a team as against raising fitness levels. I had herd of a few of our guys leaving for oth- er sports and so my thinking was if we could get in early, enticing our boys with a snag and drink after Thursday nights training - have a bit of fun - then excellent. I wanted our guys going away for the Christmas break with it firm in their minds that they would simply be back at Bullants once school recommences. Simple - Nothing else to think about right! We also ran a social club most Friday nights for a bit of fun & help the boys bond better as a team. We decided to run a pre season camp over the Labor Day weekend, which was fantastic. Not everyone could make it as many of our boys had made Cricket finals. For those that did we all had a ripper time with some of the high lights been the Merrijig Rodeo, rounding up sheep, riding the rail trail, knee boarding and tubing aswell as simply chilling out around the camp fire with Monte strumming the guitar. Of course who would forget the mud fights. Thanks to Natalie & Laurie for all your help. Can you believe it, Pat was unsure about coming back. What we as a team would have missed, what Pat would have missed. A great team man and taking out this year’s Ted Kelly award, it was a sure reflection of how he played every single game for us. Brent is very similar to Pat in putting his body on the line and most weeks neutralizing the best player on the opposite side. Jayden also doubtful. (Not 100% but I think I got him with the pre-season camp). Jayden showed he was a born leader this season and picked up the coaches award. Who could forget the push-ups he made us all do at training. As coach there are some things you simply never forget and when Ben was knocked out playing against Beverley Hills I was not confident, left wondering who would stand up & take control in what was a must win game. So it was music to my ears when I herd Jayden rally the troops. He was loud & clear, demanding of our boys that we don’t give up. This immediately gave me confidence that we would go on and win the match. We did win, we had to win because that was our plan. The win ensured us second spot on the ladder & giving us a double chance in the finals. Due to other commitments etc., we couldn’t get Mark, Rhys, Jordan or Monte back and of course we missed Laura. Mark and Rhys helped fill in for us during the year along with Jeremy and Andy. We also called on some of the under 14 boys who helped out when we were struggling to field a team. Thanks guys you all helped, playing a part in our ultimate journey. To our new recruits that came along and just slotted in so easily. You guys were fantastic. We had Joe, James, Mitch and off course, Francis. I am sure you guys got as much out of your the team as you gave. Great bunch of fellas all really contributing. Thanks to our Captain, Ben (B&F) and both VC’s in Kingy (Runner Up in B&F + Best in Finals) & Ceechy (2nd Runner Up in B&F). You guys really contributed so much to your team in bringing back & sharing your experiences gained at Oakley with the rest of the boys. You were chosen to lead your team by your peers who look up and respect you. It’s a gift - don’t waste it. Congratulations to Ben for been selected to play in the metro championships with the YJFL and earning best of series. Fantastic season also with Ceechy polling 5th in the comp B&F and Ben 3rd . Lachie also polled very well for our team and really stood up this year. Growing in statue he was a great asset for our team. Well done Lachie. We had so many more stories with Dylan (Most Improved) having a fantastic season and really coming out of his shell. Luke stacker, one of the best & I am sure would have been in the B&F if did- n’t miss so many weeks to injury. Max, Nadi and Nick all kicking some beautiful goals. Nicks 6 goals in the prelim was one of the year’s high lights. Hadley, Marcus, Martin & Matty Pane all having wonderful seasons. We struggled to keep Skivo & Brad going through out the season due to injuries but we got them there & they were excellent. I am sure, like the rest of us, they got a lot out of it. Boys I am sure it became obvious in the end. The more we put in the more we got out. It was no accident and that will apply throughout your life’s journey. Whether it’s in sport, school, work or family – Learn from the experience it’s all the same. Thanks to all the parents getting the boys to training and of course helping out every week in some role. A special thanks goes to Vaughan, Natalie and Ron, Nesh aswell as Jackie & Laurie. Lastly to Kingy. Dave you were terrific this year with Ron and Vaughan so busy in their other commitments I needed someone to fill the void and you did. Well done – A HUGE THANKS. Mike Wiggins
  • 32. Page 32 BTJFC Yearbook 2014—Colts Division 2 YEARBOOK
  • 33. 2014 Page 33 BTJFC Yearbook 2014—Colts Division 2 The season started in Division 3 but soon we were realising that as a team we were far too strong for that competition. We started the season with strong victories over St Damien’s (96 points), Boroondara Hawks (104 points), Glen Iris (54 points) and Preston (63 points). As a coach I always said that a winning margin of 80 points each week was not ac- ceptable and would rather compete in closer contests in which the margin was much closer. A step up to division 2 didn’t always mean a closer result however we had teams at times that competed strongly with GDU, Whitehorse Colts and Parkside quickly becoming our three main opponents for the year. By the time of our away game against GDU at Doncaster we were guaranteed a top two finish in which we knew we would face GDU in our first final. This game had a big crowd attend and both sides didn’t disappoint. We kicked three important first quarter goals but the game was very tight throughout. In the third quarter Adrian Vidajic got injured which unfortunately put an end to his season. For anyone that got down to watch Colts matches during the season would have been impressed by Adrian’s game. He has safe hands in marking contests, leaps high, runs quickly out of the backline and really is a pleasure to watch out on the field. James Dedes had a great second half when the ball finally bounced into his hands. Riley Verbi and Marcus Alessi were great up forward and Fitzy and Jack Jordan were great down back. Finals and in the semi-final we travelled to Koonung Reserve in Bulleen. With a strong wind going towards the car park we won the toss and kicked with the wind. However we didn’t start the way we wanted and GDU came out of the blocks kicking 5 goals in the first 10 minutes. Stunned and under pressure, we switched into gear with our midfielders and forwards kicking 4 quick goals to get us back in the game on the scoreboard. Our second quarter was again tough. We continued to be second for the ball and weren’t clean with our possession and GDU made us pay. They went in with a 4 goals lead at half time. To the players’ credit at half time we asked for something special, a higher work rate and each player came out in the third quarter ready to get us back in the match. We were able to pile on pressure, goals and rattle GDU. However in the end their dominant first quarter was the difference, kicking some final quarter goals to run away with a good victory. Some people would say it was the loss we needed. Others may not. The really pleasing thing was that each player on that next Wednesday got to training and worked hard for the upcoming prelimi- nary final against Whitehorse. Whilst we weren’t overly clean with possession early in the match we kicked 5 goals in the first quarter and continued with that same pressure in the 2nd quarter. As the game went on our superior fitness allowed us to run away with the game. We came out 79 point winners in an even performance by all players. This now brings us to the big match! Sunday 31st August, 2014, blue skies and a big crowd at Bulleen Park Oval #1. Eve- ryone was focussed and certainly pumped after Shealesy’s pre game rev up! But when the first ball bounced GDU con- tinued like they did in the semi-final putting us under severe pressure. We made uncharacteristic errors down back and allowed GDU to run the ball too easily. By half time we were 4 goals down, flat and needing something special!!! There were two ways to respond. Either continue to allow GDU to dominate the game and lose by 60 points or have a crack and see what we can do. They all certainly chose the right option! In similar scenes to the semi-final we came on in the third quarter and went Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! And a few more! Liam Ireland got us going in the middle with his ruck work. Josh Davis, Mason Giles, Callum Brown assisted in the middle getting the clearances and Matthew Capetola had an incredible quarter. Seb Terriaca worked tirelessly up forward as did Seamus Troy playing further up the ground. We had GDU rattled and looking to the bench for answers. The backline group of Jack, Jason, Steve, Tom, Nik and Seamus kept GDU scoreless whilst up forward Marcus, Riley, Josh Daicos, Seb/Luke, Peter and Matt kicked 7.3 to have a 19 point lead at ¾ time. An incredible performance and the big crowd of mainly Bulleen-Templestowe supporters weren’t disappointed. In the last quarter, GDU had the wind behind them. However GDU were shot, down on confidence and we continually had opportunities to score. Our fitness again allowed us to finish the game off and we outscored GDU in the last to win by 29 points. Congratulations to Liam Ireland for being named best on ground in the Grand Final for his excellent 2nd half of football. A fantastic comeback, win, never say die attitude and premiership victory!! Congratula- tions to all the players, all 29 of them that played during the season. Whilst I don’t have the capacity to go through individually with every player there are a few I would like to mention. Steve Fitzgerald and Mason Giles – Well done on your captaincy during the season. Premiership captain has a nice ring to it! Marcus Alessi, Mason Giles, Matthew Cape- tola – Congratulations to all three on being in the top 10 in the YJFL Division 2 Best and Fairest vote count. Callum Brown – Congratulations for being named YJFL Colts Division 2 Best & Fairest winner for 2014. Also for being named in the Colts Team of the Year!!! Special thankyous to all the parents for their assistance during the year in the various roles that take place. In particular John Dedes and Lisa Gates for their efforts every single week to make it possible for us to go on the field and play the game we love. They certainly make it easier for us coaches! Congratulations to everyone on a great year! Andrew Browne

  • 35. 2014 Page 35 BTJFC Yearbook 2014—Youth Girls The season of 2014 has been a successful one for the Bullant’s Youth Girls. The start of the year saw some challenges as we had a squad of approximately 30 players and after committee consultation it was decided that the club would introduce an under 15’s team. So with a new squad winning 9 games, beating teams who we hadn’t in previous seasons and just missing out on the finals indicates what a good season we had in 2014. This improvement was also demonstrated by our captain Lani Pane (BTDJFC Best & Fairest) who polled 3rd best and fairest for the league and utility Tessa Zagontinos (2nd BTDJFC Best & Fairest) and defender Dan- ielle Polkinghorne representing the Yarra League at the 2014 state metro titles – which they won. These 3 players were complimented by the strong experience of our Youth Girls ‘veterans’; Georgina Robertson (Ted Kelly Medalist & 3rd BTDJFC Best & Fairest), Taylor Tocchetto, Maddie Cook, Jade Cleeland, Angie Wang, Na- tarsha Vincent, Helena Dalakouras, Edmona Dalipi and Amy Hansen (2014 Most Improved). This core group of players all improved again this season and will provide a sound base for future seasons and ultimately a position in the final four. Our recruiting this year led to four experienced players joining us from Warrandyte-Park Orchards. We were well serviced by Ella Robison, Charity Lester, Danielle Polkinghorne and Micaela Bumpstead who fitted into our team as though they had been there from the start and all contributed in a positive manner throughout the year. This experience was complimented by first year players; Pamela Ikosidekas (2014 Coaches Award), Sarah Musker and Sheridan van Gelderen who all contributed throughout the season and demonstrated con- sistent football prowess by the season end. All three girls have the potential to become very good football- ers in future seasons. With junior footy sadly there comes a time when we must say goodbye to our top age players; Taylor Toc- chetto, Micaela Bumpstead and Ella Robison. We thank all 3 for their service to The Bullants and hope they transition through to the newly formed senior girls team in 2015. A special note to our vice captain, ‘Tocci’, who was not only our key forward for the last 3 years but through her enthusiasm holds a special place in our team. Finally thanks to the parents who helped out on match day and a special, big thank-you to the Youth Girls ‘Coaching Team’ in Bruce Traplin, (Team Manager), Rachael Traplin (Assistant Coach), Ron Pane (Runner), Sue Robertson (Trainer) and Sesha Achilingam (Assistant Trainer) who made the coach’s role very easy and were a big reason for our success this year. • 37. 2014 Page 37 BTJFC Yearbook 2014—U15 Girls With the success of our Under 12's & Youth Girls teams last year, and with girls footy growing at an enormous rate we decided, after many hours of deliberation as to the logisitics of it all, to field our inaugural Under 15 Girls team into the YJFL in 2014. Part of setting the team up was to ask girls who had previously played in the Youth comp who were eligi- ble for the 15's this year to come and join us and to be our adopted leadership group for the year and for that we ex- tend our sincerest thanks. With the season opener fast approaching we kicked off pre season training with the Youth Girls as one group. It was soon apparent that this Under 15's group was going to be a force to be reckoned with this year and with new players joining up every week the season was looking great. We kicked off our season with a game against Glen Iris on a hot, windy day at Righetti Oval, we had about 13 players, they had 21 but we gave them a good run for their money and we were pleased with our 1st game, making us realise we had made the right decision to field this team this year. As we progressed through the season our numbers increased to give us a final list of 21 but with injuries we were usually hovering around the 13 to 17 player mark each week, which made team selection a bit inter- esting but we managed to get a pretty good mix of players in the right positions each week. Like all other teams we had our ups and downs this year, our biggest down was against Kew Rovers where we lost by what seemed like a gazzilion points, they smashed us everywhere that day and we were really hurt after that game, but we got our re- venge, the last Home & Away we played them again, and with our girls absolutely determined to receive redemption we knocked them off in one of the best games of defensive footy ever played in the world!!!!! The brickwork at Bulleen Park was rattling as we sang the song that day, this showed everyone how far we had come. Some player highlights for the year: Sophie - put in 100% every time she played and gave her all. Mia - battled on with a neck injury which forced her to retire during the season but was very effective. Steffie - WOW what a player, simply brilliant all year which saw her win the YJFL B&F and Bullants Runner Up for the season. Antoinette - where have you been for the last 3 years???? never played before but played like a seasoned player, and can hold her head up high as being the only girl in the YJFL to be on the receiveing end of a ball in the face of a full powered kick from Szigetts!. Leonie, a Youth Girl who came down to help lead the team and was pivotal when on the ground. Shenae - Brilliant, simply brilliant in defence and saved many goals, and games, for us, also won the Club B&F for the year. Jaclyn - Smiley, always happy and had a fierce hunger for the ball, could adapt to playing anywhere!. Salena - a 1st time player who developed her skills very well during the year. Maddie - Superstar, this girl was one of the hardest workers both on the field and at training, and ended up being one of our key defenders, if Maddie got you, she never let go!!. Well done on winning the Most Im- proved for 2014. Pow, another Youth Girl who came down to play, always an honest effort at training and on the ground. Vicky - another toughy who had some oppositioon players rattled with her strength and attack at the footy. Imi - a recruit from Warrandyte, and what a recruit she was, fantastic efforts at training and on the ground, can mark and kick and not affraid to have a crack. Joyceline - what a find, very strong and able player who listened to what she was told and was another girl who could play anywhwere. Laura Mayne - played in Under 12's last year and blew us away with her abailty and improvement this year, well done. Kate " Captain" Oxley - another Youth Girl who swas giv- en the job of leadiong the team on the field and did it with greatness. A true leader who supported all her team mates and also had a very good year as a player too!. Steph - played under 12's last year and settled in to this team very well, great efforts at the ball and the contests. Georgia - again another Under 12 from last year, a girl who applies herself well to everything she does, and played her heart out in every position we put her in and thoroughly deserved the Coaches Award this year. Robbo - what can we say, a superstar who wrecked her knee mid season doing crazy danc- ing!! Was a great help and provided valuable advice as Assistant Coach and took on the role of Coach when Rach start- ed playing in the last few games. Lauren - Superstar, has played Rep footy and was dogged with injury, but when she did play..........WOW, nothing more needs to be said here!! Emma - another girl who has been missing for the past few years!! A very quiet and unassuming girl who goes nuts when she crosses that white line, one of our fastest runners and layed some seriously fierce tackles, a pint sized rocket!! Well done Em, you were awesome. Rachy - broker her wrist in the 1st ruck of the 1st quarter of the 1st game, took on ther role of Coach and did a pretty good job. Came back in the last few rounds and showed just what we missed during the year, well done Rach, a tough job done very well!! To all of our helpers this year, sincerest thanks. Special mention to Matt for running the Boundary every week, to Vaughan and Bridgit for manipulating yourselves between games to help out, and to our girls other Mum, Susie Rob- ertson, for being a fantastic Trainer, Medic and mentor to all of our girls. To the girls from the Under 12's who helped out when they could and to Amy from Youth Girls who played a number of games with us, a big Thank You. To our girls who represented the YJFL in the Metro Championships, well done - Shenae, Imi, Joyceline and "captain" Kate. To Brendan Fall, your support of this fantastic club is greatly appreciated. Finally, thank you girls for making all of us smile each week. Bruce Traplin

  • 39. 2014 Page 39 BTDJFC Yearbook 2014—U12 Girls Well what a year 2014 has been for Girls Football. We started of with the introduction of the U15's team meaning we were going to lose a number of players who had been with the girls throughout the 2013 sea- son. Much to everyone's disbelief, we were going to have to let them go and get straight into pre season training and start to develop players to fill their shoes, and did they do just that!!!! From the very first train- ing session, we had master recruiter Jackie bringing in new girls left, right and centre, and by the end of the season we had a squad over 20! This was absolutely perfect as we all saw throughout the season, injuries and sickness took its toll (plus the odd holiday takers, or two). Throughout the season, I saw some amazing plays and some we even nicknamed (like Mei-Ling's Dodge and Charge) and we saw a lot of brilliant team work. This year the team bonded more that last and amazing friendships were formed. Now let’s get into some game talk! This season was a very successful one as our U12 girls played 17 games (including finals) and won 13 of them! I am very proud of that number especially when their highest losing margin in the regular season was 4 points against Kew Comets and in finals against St Mary's with a loss of 8 points...THATS AMAZING! What was even more amazing was our highest EVER winning margin! I'm sure everyone could remember that day over at Alfred Crescent against Fitzroy where we got over the 100 point line and won by 96 points. That was a good day! With the season ending in a loss in the prelim, I knew that the girls going to U15 next year were going to have a great year and do great things. And for those of you who are (hopefully) stuck with me, I am so excit- ed about season 2105 already and I can't wait to get stuck back into pre-season training! Thank you to everyone who has supported me this year including Rach, Bruce, Matt, Craig, Karen, Jackie and the whole of the parent group. Your kind words always strike me and nearly brings tears to my eyes. Every time you tell me how much your child is developing, in and out of football, it reassures me that the reason I do what I do is because I love to see the girls happy, healthy and enjoying such an amazing sport. I know that football has done great things for me in the past and I hope the girls can see that its not only a game, but it’s a way of gaining new life experiences and friends that they will cherish like I did. To my beautiful girls, Good luck to those of you moving up to the U15's and I hope you will still come and support your friends in U12 and please don't forget your favourite coach (and friend). And for you lovely young ones, let’s make next year an even better one than this one!!!!! BRING IT ON!!
