  1. 1. Language of Research, Campaigns, Advocacies
  2. 2. Research is a systematic investigation and study of materials and sources in order to establish facts and reach new conclusions. (Oxford Dictionary)
  3. 3. Through research, you can investigate an issue then discuss findings and propose solutions or options to address the issue. You can extend your efforts through campaigns and advocacies.
  4. 4. Hundreds of reports on animal cruelty, irresponsible pet ownership, hit and run cases, abandonment and many more on a daily basis. Having to realize though that we actually have the power to change and transform lives, both of humans and animals is what makes this advocacy very important to me. -Pawssion Project
  5. 5. Not all would know this but the Philippines is unique by being the center of marine biodiversity in the world – we have the greatest number of marine critters anywhere on this planet. This biodiversity translates into tangible and intangible things we need to survive, like seafood, coastal protection, white sand beaches (!), waves to surf on, and the air that we breathe (more than 50% of the oxygen on the planet is produced by plankton). Our life depends on the sea. It is not only important to me, but to you and everyone else as well. -Marine Wildlife Watch of the Philippines
  6. 6. Campaign is any series of actions or events that are meant to achieve a particular result.
  7. 7. Types of campaign: • Civil society campaign • Political campaign • Advertising campaign
  8. 8. Civil society campaign a project intended to mobilize public support in order to instigate social change
  9. 9. Political campaign
  10. 10. Advertising campaign a series of advertisement messages that share a single idea and theme
  11. 11. Advocacy comes from the Latin ‘advocare’ and literally means ‘to call out for support’.
  12. 12. Advocacy involves promoting the interests or cause of someone or a group of people. It generally involves speaking or acting with the intention of affecting or changing specific policies, systems, or ideas.
  13. 13. This change can occur in an array of settings: governmental, health, social, economic and legal, among others. •Advocacy is also about helping people find their voice.
  14. 14. Types of advocacy: MASS ADVOCACY • MEDIA ADVOCACY • HEALTH ADVOCACY • SELF-ADVOCACY
  15. 15. Mass Advocacy Organized and orchestrated through large groups (i.e. polls, protests)
  16. 16. Media Advocacy Using media as the primary means to promote a specific cause.
  17. 17. Health Advocacy Supporting the rights of patients and improving the community of people who care about patients.
  18. 18. Self-Advocacy Motions taken by individuals to support their own rights in the workplace, schools, etc
  19. 19. Advocacies can be delivered through campaigns in Social Media, TV Commercials, YouTube and other internet platforms. Just like the Project Smile’s Advocacy campaign activities were conducted through Facebook and Instagram accounts.
