• Serve a population of more than seven million across more than 11,000 square
km stretching from Hamilton and Kitchener-Waterloo in the west to Newcastle
and Peterborough in the east, and from Orangeville and Beaverton in the north
to Niagara Falls in the south.
• In operation since 1967, GO now carries more than 70 million passengers a year.
• The PRESTO card is the smart card fare payment system seamlessly connecting 11
transit agencies across the GTHA and Ottawa.
• PRESTO replaces the need for tickets, tokens, passes or cash.
• UP Express connects the country's two busiest transportation hubs: Toronto
Pearson International Airport and Union Station in downtown Toronto, offering a
25-minute journey from end to end, with trains departing every 15 minutes.

31 Priority Actions to Support the 5 Strategies
• Metrolinx published the first regional transportation
plan (RTP) for the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area
(GTHA) in 2008.
• We are required to review the RTP at least every ten
years, in alignment with Ontario’s Growth Plan for the
Greater Golden Horseshoe.
• The legislative review of initial RTP led to the
development of the 2041 RTP. Key outcomes include:
o Quadrupling the number of people and doubling
the number of jobs within walking distance of
Frequent Rapid Transit
o 27x more kilometres of the Frequent Rapid
Transit
o In addition to the capital costs, successful
implementation will also require operating
funding for transit services, fare integration and
programs for walking and cycling

10. Eglinton Maintenance and Storage Facility (EMSF)
• As part of the Crosstown LRT project, a
state-of-the-art maintenance and storage
facility near Ray Avenue and Industry Road
is being built.
• The facility sits on 42 acres of land and is
comprised of three facilities for LRT
operations. This includes a maintenance
building, storage for 76 LRT vehicles,
administration offices and training
facilities. It is designed with future growth
in mind, with the ability to house a total of
135 vehicles as ridership increases.
• The EMSF achieved ‘readiness to receive
delivery of Light RailVehicles’ on October
1st of 2018, marking delivery of the first
major milestone of the LRT project on time.
Train movements in the yard will begin as

November 2018 - January 2019:Track RelocationWork*
• CP crews will be relocating the CP mainline track further east from its current position. Once complete, crews will begin
relocating the GOTransit track further east from its current position.
• Track relocation work involves saw-cutting, drilling rail, surfacing, ballast placement/regulating, and thermite welding. Portions
of the work will require compaction by means of mechanical roller causing vibrations.
January 2019 - Summer 2020: Rail Corridor Development (West Side)*
• After the track relocations are complete, work will begin on the west side of the Railway Corridor. and activities are scheduled
through to Summer 2020. Site access will be made via Brownsville Avenue, Hollis Street, and Locust Street.
• Construction activities include:
– LRT Tunnels (excavation, cast-in-place concrete, backfilling, grading, etc.)
– GO Bridge Expansion (shoring, excavation, CIP concrete, structural steel installation, etc.)

• Construction continues on the west portal with shoring activities and at the
elevated guideway with rebar, formwork, and concrete.
• In early 2019, traffic will open up to two lanes in each direction along Eglinton

30. Oakwood Station: Mined Station
• Oakwood Station is being constructed using a mined method known as Sequential Excavation Method or SEM.
• 24 hour mining is underway and will be ongoing to early 2020.
• The mining process includes three principal underground activities that occur in a continuous sequence.This creates
the large underground cavern that will house the station platform and concourse.
• Horizontal ‘pipe roof’ supports the ground above.
• Excavation of the materials below the ‘roof’.
• Support of underground surfaces by spraying the walls and ceiling with concrete.

Why was Metrolinx Created.
Metrolinx was created in 2006 by the Province of Ontario with a mandate to create greater connection between the communities of the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area, and now beyond to the Greater Golden Horseshoe.
Our mission at Metrolinx is to implement an integrated transportation system that enhances prosperity, sustainability and quality of life in our region. We were created in response to the in-attention to rapid transit investment for 15 to 20 years in this fast growing urban region. We just had not kept up in the past. Since 2008, Metrolinx, guided by its Regional Transportation, The Big Move has worked to plan, design and build a regional transportation network that aims to enhance the quality of life, the environment and the prosperity of area residents.
As we move forward to a new Regional Transportation Plan and the next 10 years, we ask ourselves:
How will we meet the challenge of growth across the region, with a complete transportation system that includes rapid transit, walking and cycling infrastructure, efficient highways, improved goods movement, and systems for new forms of mobility?
Given the changes we expect in terms of our population and economic growth, as well as the rapid uptake of new technologies, how can we expect the region to be transformed in 2041?
We are developing a RAP that can perform well under a range of possibilities – in other words, we are working to build a resilient plan that looks forward towards the future.
