3. What is IoT?
Internet of Things (IoT) is an ecosystem of connected physical objects that are
accessible through the internet. The ‘thing’ in IoT could be a person with a
heart monitor or an automobile with built-in-sensors, i.e. objects that have
been assigned an IP address and have the ability to collect and transfer data
over a network without manual assistance or intervention. The embedded
technology in the objects helps them to interact with internal states or the
external environment, which in turn affects the decisions taken.
6. Raspberry Pi
Raspberry Pi is a low cost, credit-card sized
computer that plugs into a computer monitor or TV,
and uses a standard keyboard and mouse. It is a
capable little device that enables people of all ages to
explore computing, and to learn how to program in
languages like Scratch and Python. It’s capable of
doing everything you’d expect a desktop computer to
do, from browsing the internet and playing high-
definition video, to making spreadsheets, word-
processing, and playing games.
7. What is AWS IoT?
AWS IoT is a managed cloud platform that lets connected devices easily
and securely interact with cloud applications and other devices. AWS IoT
can support billions of devices and trillions of messages, and can process
and route those messages to AWS endpoints and to other devices reliably
and securely. With AWS IoT, your applications can keep track of and
communicate with all your devices, all the time, even when they aren’t
connected.

Project
A bulb connected to raspberry pi is
switched on/off remotely using an
android app with help of aws-
iot cloud services.
11. Working
The raspberry pi initially interacts with shadow(virtual state of the hardware
device in aws-iot) to fetch the previous state of led(on or off). Thereafter it
listens to any shadow changes.
The android app is used to interact with the raspberry pi for changing the state
of led by altering the shadow state.
The raspberry pi listens to the changes made to the shadow state and changes
the state of led accordingly .The raspberry pi also publishes a message to aws-
iot console for a particular topic.(MQTT protocol is used for this, which is based
on publisher subscriber model)
The aws-iot console subscribed to same topic listens to messages and executes
a rule(if required) to invoke other amazon aws services like sns,dynamo db,
lambda function, analytics etc.
