Is a way people efficiently process information to
classify objects according to their distinctive
features which leads to people categorizing people
based on nationality, race, ethnicity, gender, age,
religion, sexual orientation, and so forth.
Self fulfilling prophecy belief that because someone
belongs in a certain group they are suppose to act a
certain way.

Another result is when there is a heighten visibility of
outgroup member, when their are only a few of
them, for example minorities at a PWI

with
stereotypes
This prevent dialogue between people with different
backgrounds on college campus.

performance on a certain task, such as standardized
test.’

in automatic biases when reacting to
others.

learn?
Switch it up sit with students you would not
normally sit with.
College campus
Have dorm mixers promote students to talk to
someone who they feel may be very
different from them, maybe change the
way roommates are chosen
- Shook and Fazio conduct an experiment
that showed college students rooming with
students with different ethnicity/race have
shown to be less prejudice than those who
room with the same race.
● Promote students to go to offices provided
