• The Latin adverb X added immediately after a quoted word or
phrase (or a longer piece of text), indicates that the quoted words
have been transcribed exactly as spelled or presented in the original
source, complete with any erroneous spelling or other
presentation. The usual purpose is to inform the reader that any
errors or apparent errors in the transcribed material do not arise
from transcription errors, and the errors have been repeated
intentionally, i.e. that they are reproduced exactly as set-down by
the original writer or printer. X is generally placed inside
square brackets, or in parentheses (round brackets), and
traditionally in italic, as is customary when printing a foreign
word. X may also be used as a form of ridicule or as a humorous
comment, drawing attention to the original writer's spelling-
mistakes and emphasizing his erroneous logic.

album Hunky Dory. This is an acoustic song about one
of Bowie's greatest inspirations, the American pop
artist X. The song starts with some studio chat where
Bowie explains to producer Ken Scott, who has just
been heard to mispronounce X's name when
introducing the take, the right way to say it. Scott
solemnly reintroduces the take with the correct
pronunciation, then Bowie suddenly begins to play,
amidst laughter. Bowie later played the song to X, who
reportedly disliked it as he thought the lyrics made fun

The size of the device is well suited to producing a wearable package which
is small, lightweight, and can be mounted in various positions on the body. An
accelerometer, as its name implies, senses acceleration. The device is a fully
integrated circuit on a micro-machined piece of silicon. The micro-machining
actually cuts out small moving squares of metal that are suspended over the
wafer on polysilicon springs, making it sensitive to movement and tilt. The
variations in the position of the metal are detected by capacitive sensors
along the sides. The signals are converted into a pair of analog outputs for
both the x and y-axis. It is important to note that the sensor detects
acceleration and not velocity or position. This means that it is not only
capable of detecting movement but also acceleration due to gravity.

• On bass guitar, "X bass" usually refers to a percussive playing technique most
commonly used in funk, disco, soul, jazz, Latin, pop, and many other genres. The
style sounds much more percussive than regular fingering of notes with the
plucking hand. The X sound comes from the combination of two elements: striking
the string with the side of the bony joint in the middle of the thumb, a harder
surface than the pads of the fingers (used in plucked fingering); and intentionally
allowing the vibrating string to come into contact with the metal frets
In the Y, the bassist will use the index and middle fingers of the plucking hand to
snap the higher-pitched strings away from the body of the bass, causing them to
bounce off the fretboard; this produces a prominent buzzing tone with a sharp
attack and more high-frequency vibrations than present in plucked bass. The
bassist can play many notes quickly by rotating the forearm, alternately slapping
and popping: during the pop, the hand moves away from the fretboard, "winding
up" or getting in position for the next X. The X and Y techniques are commonly
used with pull-offs and hammer-ons with the fretting (usually left) hand, to further
increase the rate at which notes may be played. Ghost notes, or notes played with
the string damped, are also commonly played in X bass to increase the percussive
feel of the technique.
