2008/9 Has Been Challenging for Manufacturers Impact of Financial Crisis on Consumer  Spending Manufacturers Feel Impact of Financial Crisis The manufacturing sector was hit hard by the downturn. Reduced consumer demand led to production cuts at factories. The credit crunch prompted manufacturers to hoard cash and suspend investing in new opportunities.
But Has the Tide Turned – Is the Recession Over? There is optimism that the economy has moved from recession into recovery… The U.S. economy grew at a 3.5 percent pace in the third quarter, the best showing in two years. It's the strongest signal yet that the economy has entered a new, though fragile, phase of recovery.  There is a growing belief among financial experts that the recession is over.  Barry Knapp, a strategist at Barclays Capital, wrote recently that the economy appears "to be in the sweet spot of a recovery.“ Gross domestic product in the third quarter is now expected to show 2.4% growth and the fact that     the jobless rate fell for the      first time in 15 months,             suggests the worst is over.
Either Way: It’s Time to Be Lean and Prepare for Growth Bold Companies Emerge Stronger “Waiting until new demand arrives will be far too late to appropriately meet it, and we are recommending that companies start preparing for business growth now.“

  4. - Key Performance Indicators are quantifiable measurements, agreed to beforehand, that reflect the critical success factors of an organization and align with overall company goals. - Key Performance Indicators usually are long-term considerations. Their definition and how they are measured do not change often, but goal/target KPI value may change as the organization's goals change or as it gets closer to achieving a goal. - An organization that has as one of its goals "to be the most profitable company in our industry" will have Key Performance Indicators that measure profit and related fiscal measures.- There must be a way to accurately define and measure a KPI.-Keep the number of KPIs small just to keep everyone's attention focused on achieving the same KPIs. - There will be 3-5 Key Performance Indicators for the company and all the units may have 3-5 KPIs that support the overall company goals and can be "rolled up" into them.
