Halal
Any action which is approved by the
Quran or the express approval or silence
from the Prophet.
English meaning: lawful
4. 4
Halal (cont’d)
In heaven, everything will be halal, even wine.
It wont be the kind that gets people drunk. It
will be flavorful and tasty. 37:47
Halal meat is slaughtered in a way that the
animals die painlessly. Allah's name is
mentioned. The blood is drained so the meat
is more healthy. This preparation is called
Dhabiha meat.
Remember...if you stay away from food that
you are not allowed to eat for Allah's sake, He
will reward you more
5. 5
Halal (cont’d)
“O people, eat from the earth what is lawful
and good. But do not follow in the ways of
Shaitan for he is your declared enemy.”
(2:168)
The food as well as drink used by a Muslim
should be lawful (halal) and pure (layyib).
“They ask thee (O' Prophet) what is made
lawful for them. Say: (All) good and
wholesome things are made lawful for you.”
6. 6
Halal (cont’d)
Things that you are allowed to do
Halal food is for our own protection
The best thing for you to consume is
fresh halal meat, fruit, vegetables,
grains, fresh baked breads, pastries, and
sweets
7. 7
Haram
Any action forbidden by Allah in the
Quran or by the Prophet. Any action
against the spirit of Islam.
English meaning: unlawful
8. 8
Haram (cont’d)
Haram food is bad for us. It can cause us to get very sick
If you drink red wine to cure your heart, you get addicted and
want more and more. Eventually, you might get drunk.
Most brands of the Jello and marshmallows have gelatin that is
made of pig and cow hooves. Gelatin is used to make
marshmallows creamier.
Food is not the only thing that is haram. Showing of your body is
Haram. The prophet disliked it when women did that.
Intoxication: anything that causes you to loose your senses
“O you who believe! Eat of the good things wherewith We have
supplied you, and render thanks to Allah if you are (indeed) His
worshipers. He hath forbidden you carrion; and blood; and the
flesh of swine and that over which any name other than that of
Allah hath been invoked” (2 : 172, 173).
9. 9
Haram (cont’d)
Backbiting is an evil tongue. It is unlawful to Islam. The Holy Quran
condemns it by stating: “O’ you, who believe! Shun much suspicion
for verily some suspicion is a crime. Would any of you like to eat of
the flesh of his dead brother? But you abhor it. And keep your duty
(to Allah). Lo! Allah is Relenting, Merciful.” 49:12
Backbiting is when a person says mean things about others in their
absence. This grave sin has likened to the eating of flesh of the dead body
of a brother. It is an admitted fact that a Muslim is the brother of a Muslim
and as such deserves his help and co-operation but a backbiter acts
contrary to it.
When a person is backbiting, the person being backbitten cannot defend
himself because he himself is not there. For this reason, backbiting is
strictly prohibited in Islam and one who is accustomed to this habit, shall
not enter Paradise. (Muslim)

Quotes
“They ask you about liquor and gambling. Tell them,
'There is both harm and benefit in them for people. But
the harm is greater than the benefit.” 2:219
The Arabic meaning for gambling literally means
“getting something easily without working for it.” It is
haram (unlawful) in Islam to win money without the
least amount of effort.
Wine makes you intoxicated and causes you to go
crazy. When you are intoxicated, you are not allowed
to enter any mosque. If you do, you will get banned
immediately.

you from heat and coats of armor to
save you from mutual violence. Thus

order that you may surrender.” 16:81

both male and female, whatever country
or nation, should conceal there body
other than the face, hands, and feet.

Quran – Intoxicants and
Gambling (002.219)
YUSUFALI: They ask thee concerning wine and gambling. Say:
"In them is great sin, and some profit, for men; but the sin is
greater than the profit." They ask thee how much they are to
spend; Say: "What is beyond your needs." Thus doth Allah Make
clear to you His Signs: In order that ye may consider-
PICKTHAL: They question thee about strong drink and games of
chance. Say: In both is great sin, and (some) utility for men; but
the sin of them is greater than their usefulness. And they ask
thee what they ought to spend. Say: that which is superfluous.
Thus Allah makes plain to you (His) revelations, that haply ye
may reflect.
SHAKIR: They ask you about intoxicants and games of chance.
Say: In both of them there is a great sin and means of profit for
men, and their sin is greater than their profit. And they ask you
as to what they should spend. Say: What you can spare. Thus
does Allah make clear to you the communications, that you may
ponder

Quran – Intoxicants and
Gambling (005.090)
YUSUFALI: O ye who believe! Intoxicants and
gambling, (dedication of) stones, and (divination by)
arrows, are an abomination,- of Satan's handwork:
eschew such (abomination), that ye may prosper.
PICKTHAL: O ye who believe! Strong drink and games
of chance and idols and divining arrows are only an
infamy of Satan's handiwork. Leave it aside in order
that ye may succeed.
SHAKIR: O you who believe! intoxicants and games of
chance and (sacrificing to) stones set up and (dividing
by) arrows are only an uncleanness, the Shaitan's
work; shun it therefore that you may be successful.
18. 18
Quran – Intoxicants and
Gambling (005.091)
YUSUFALI: Satan's plan is (but) to excite enmity and
hatred between you, with intoxicants and gambling,
and hinder you from the remembrance of Allah, and
from prayer: will ye not then abstain?
PICKTHAL: Satan seeks only to cast among you enmity
and hatred by means of strong drink and games of
chance, and to turn you from remembrance of Allah
and from (His) worship. Will ye then have done?
SHAKIR: The Shaitan only desires to cause enmity and
hatred to spring in your midst by means of intoxicants
and games of chance, and to keep you off from the
remembrance of Allah and from prayer. Will you then
desist?
