2. THE IDEA THAT STARTED IT ALL!
Myself and many of the staff got really tired of finding great
worlds with great Rp'er's where after devoting months to play
and RP it became apparent that no matter how good our RP
was. No matter what we rp'ed doing it had no effect on what
the staff "planned". In addition we always found alot of
favoritism toward DM characters and staff pals. They often
had items, weapons, and positions not available at all to the
general players. So our pledge here at Dalelands is this:
DM's will never have items or positions unavailable to players.
DM PC's will be expected to step aside for any positions of
power to a interested and worthy player. All quests and/or
plots must be flexible and reactive to players. In essence this
is a world built by players for players. Not for the staff, not for
the staffs pals. For you, the good rp'er who wants to make a
difference in a world! We will do our best to reward Rp'ers no
matter who they are, bottom line.
3. CURRENT GOALS OF DALELANDS
To have a reactive world that is not only fun to play
in, but fun to DM in too!
A DM Team that is helpful and approachable.
Provide a wide variety of content including
quests, DM events, new classes, interesting areas
etc.
Equal and fair treatment to all players.
4. STEPS TO A FUN REACTIVE WORLD
Set goals you can reach (overworking yourself isn’t
good).
Take breaks from DM’ing when needed.
Make use of the tools in place (player notes, DM
interaction, DM notes (soon)).
Ensure that staff members are in a position that is
most enjoyable for them.
Focus on the pro-active approach. Avoid reactive
or short-term approaches, and avoid rules/policies
that are difficult to enforce.
Try to improve server for everyone.
5. STEPS TO APPROACHABILITY
Try to find players positives instead of
counting negatives.
Be humble. We all remember jerk
DM’s, let’s not be one ourselves.
DMs are people too and have bad days.
Take a break from the server and give
yourself time to relax.
Focus on the positive aspects of the
server.
Remember players can “screw up” just
like Buce does accidental party kills
6. STEPS TO VARIETY-HOW NON
SCRIPTOR/BUILDER STAFF CAN HELP
Try to have a variety of events
Vary the loot for events
Pick a player read their bio and find a idea in it
Get a player helper to be play NPC-role in event.
Assist in brainstorming ideas for content. (if based
on quest/events, even better, players enjoy a
reactive world)
Take part in helping to run a faction.
7. EQUAL AND FAIR TREATMENT
9 times out of ten or maybe 99 out of 100..a players isn’t here
to just be a troll-true trolls are rare.
Variety of events and contents can keep players occupied
enough that problems become less rare.
We were all newbies once, and liked being helped out.
Players have bad days just like us - be forgiving.
Be kind and humble even in DM chat, it hurts when players
bash an event. Similarly, it hurts the player to be bashed by
the DMs.
Sometimes a mediocre RP’er just needs attention to be a
great RP’er.
