The trash can thanks you if you throw something in it. This makes garbage disposal fun!
MATERIALS
• a Makey Makey Set and aluminum foil
• a PC/Laptop with Internet connection
• Scratch: https://scratch.mit.edu/
PLAN
• Attach a strip of aluminum foil to the opening of the
trash can and a strip of aluminum foil to the lid.
• Now clip the ground cable (green) to one foil, the
second cable (white) to the wished key (Space) and
the other.
• Connect the Makey Makey with your Laptop and open
Scratch.
• In Scratch, program the scenario in the picture
• select sounds: choose from the existing or record
one yourself (What should the garbage bin say?)
Now, if you throw something in the bin and you close the lid, the aluminum foil closes the circuit and the
Makey Makey sends the signal to Scratch – and the recorded sound (“Thank You!”) is played. You can modify
your garbage bin just as you like: Hide the wires or vary between different sounds and keys.
