To whom it may concern:
Prior to the certification process I gained experience in several service/administrative industries. My
previous job titles have ranged from everything to hostess, bank teller, administrative assistant, to front
desk receptionist. I enjoy helping others and decided to pursue a career in Medical Assisting a few years
ago in order to hone the extensive skills I had already obtained into a more stable and rewarding day job.
I completed Medical Assisting coursework at Hacienda La Puente Adult Education Center in May of 2013.
The program included extensive coursework and hands on training in both administrative and clinical
aspects, as well as medical terminology and anatomy where I received an average of 93% in the overall
course. Shortly after coursework concluded I completed 260 on-site externship hours. I received
Certificates of Completion in Administrative Medical Assisting, Clinical Medical Assisting, and Medical
Terminology, Anatomy and Physiology for Health Careers on September 1, 2013. After taking and
passing the examination, I am now also a California Certified Medical Assistant as of December 2, 2013.
While completing my Medical Assisting externship I found that I enjoyed the task of venipuncture and
seemed to have a knack for the skill, which persuaded me to continue my education and obtain my
phlebotomy certification. I completed didactic training for Phlebotomy at Regan Career Institute in August
of 2013 where I received a perfect score on my practical and a 97% on my final written exam. I then
continued to complete 40 hours of on-site externship training. I took and passed the National Exam for
CPT 1 certification, awarded October 9, 2013 and subsequently became a CA State Certified
Phlebotomist on November 22, 2013.
Due to the current economic state and job freeze in California, I had an extremely difficult time finding an
entry level position and had to subsequently take a non-medical position from 2014-2015, because of my
lack of paid experience within the field. This minor setback only made me more determined to succeed.
Since then I have taken it upon myself to gain as much experience as possible in order to break into the
industry with an acceptable amount of knowledge and training to excel in medical assisting. In order to do
so I have spent the past year working with staffing agencies to be placed in various temporary positions
within my scope of practice. Between my externships and temp positions I have gained experience in
several different types of medical roles and environments. These include a front and back office position
in a small family practice, back office for an industrial clinic, a laboratory position at Hollywood
Presbyterian Medical Center in Los Angeles, a front and back office position at an Urgent Care in
Pasadena, an Analyst position for the Emergency Prospective Review Program at Kaiser Permanente,
and most recently as a back office MA for the Oncology floor of City of Hope. While at these locations I
was exposed to a vast variety of tasks ranging from filing and assembling medical charts to assisting in
minor office surgery.
The field of medicine has led me to be highly motivated, understand responsibility, and become adaptive.
Helping others has become a passion and I find being around those with the same mentality inspiring. I
believe I can be a complementary addition to your team, and am committed to helping the practice run
smoothly.
I included my cellular number and resume and look forward to hearing from you. I have open availability,
and am looking to start employment as soon as possible. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Very truly yours,
Dallas Varela
