1. High Himalayan community projects Nepal
Safe drinking water project in Nepal
Children are filling the water turn by turn to bring their home from 20 minutes far
ways one year before lunching the program.
At the time we initiated development activities within the rural high himalayan
communities; our initial objectives are to provide assistance with primary school
construction, Health care promotion, village sanitation, rural communities
empowerments, volunteer mobilization, real village eco trek and nature conservation
however, already during the first year of our presence within the region, we have applied
for assistance with drinking water systems far outnumbered those for vulnerable
communities. Every village needs water. Thus, gravity-fed drinking water systems to the
rural high himalayan villages currently represent our main development activity therefore
we say Small projects big results.
2. Local people are constructing the water reservation tank
The benefited community members being volunteers to carry on water pipe from the
two days long way to their village.
The lack of water within the community also puts an extra burden on the village women
who, by local tradition, are the main water carriers. Furthermore, water taken out of a
ground well, where available, is usually polluted. Although the customary water system
parameters in Nepal allocate one tap stand to be shared by more then ten households, we
have been quite liberal in tap stand allocation. Since the average rural household has
about ten inhabitants, we have found that the one to five ratios does not adequately meet
the needs of the local people. We are currently providing 23 tap an average of one tap
stand for every two households. Our tap stand design is also quite cost effective and the
provision of additional tap stands makes little difference in the overall project
expenditure. However, even with our liberal household to tap stand ratio, an average of
ten to twenty people must share one water tap where water runs 24 hours.
In addition to the labor saving benefits by not having to carry water from distant sources,
there are also health related benefits derived from the availability of safe water within the
village. Nepal is among the countries where less than twenty percent of rural population
has an easy access to safe drinking water. About 80% of world's disease is related to a
lack of clean drinking water. In Nepal, about 45% people become infected by guinea
3. worm disease every year, as a result of drinking polluted water. The health of the people
is a basic need, whose satisfaction must be the foremost goal of any development activity.
Furthermore, it is a prerequisite for economic and social development, only healthy
people can fully utilize their capabilities.
Children are happy mode and filling the water nearby their home after finished the
project work.
