Explore the Great Outdoors and Discover All its Benefits
FORT WORTH, Texas- Do you love the outdoors? Are you ready to get your family
and friends away from their TV sets and gadgets and enjoy some fresh air? Well ,
encourage them to come out and participate this June for National Great Outdoors
Month.
National Great Outdoors Month is a proclamation by the president and all 50
governors and mayors encouraging active fun outdoor recreational activities in
parks, rivers and forest.
According to the National Wildlife Federation the average boy/girl spend as few as
30 minutes outside each day, and more than seven hours each day in front of an
electronic screen. June is the beginning of summer and kids are out of school, but
instead of having your kids spend their whole summer watching TV, play video
games or other gadgets, plan a day to participate in outdoor activities.
“The Fort Worth Trinity River offers plenty of outdoor activities like cycling, horse
back riding, boating, fishing and much more for anyone who’s interested, “ said
Stacey Pierce, executive director for Streams and Valleys. “It’s important for people
to get out and enjoy what the city has to offer and I hope people come out and enjoy
more than 40 miles of safe, beautiful trails winding along the river and its
tributaries.”
Recent research conducted by the National Wildlife Federation shows that
childhood obesity rates have more than doubled in the last 20 years and the United
States has become the largest consumer of ADHD medications in the world.
Some of the benefits from participating in outdoor activities include:
Body
Increase fitness levels and build active healthy bodies that can help one in
three kids who are obese get fit.
Spending time outdoors raises Vitamin D levels, which will help children in
the future problems like heart disease, diabetes and other health issues.
2. Exposure to oxygenated air, trees and nature instantly increase energy levels
while decreasing the feeling of exhaustion.
Outdoor activities will also help lower the chances of becoming nearsighted.
Spending time outdoors has a beneficial effect on the body’s immune system.
Mind
Higher standardized test in math, reading, writing and listening are results
from outside activities.
Individuals who spent time outdoors report an increase in self -esteem and
decrease in depression.
Natural setting exposure may have an effect in reducing ADHD symptoms.
Spirit
Researchers at University of Illinois report that exposure to natural settings
in after-school and weekend activities may be “widely effective” in reducing
symptoms for attention deficit in children.
Increased time in nature is found to help make people nicer, enhance social
interactions and more.
“It is important for children to get out and start exploring the great outdoors but it’s
also the important for parents to provide them with activities to keep them
interested,” said Pierce.
So do you like the outdoors a lot more now? Then get out there and go visit your
local parks, trails and rivers this June and celebrate Great Outdoors Month with your
family and friends. If they hesitate at first, just refer to any of these beneficial
reasons to them and plan for a fun day out in the sun.
This June, get out, get your Vitamin D, stay healthy and become a nice person by
simply exploring the outdoors. If you’re struggling for ideas on outdoor activities,
you can visit Streams and Valleys.

Fort Worth Child Magazine
Dear Mr. Wayne:
Do you love the outdoors? Are you ready to get your family and friends away from
their TV sets and gadgets and enjoy some fresh air? What better way to get your
kids out of the house than going outdoors to explore. I thought I’d take this
opportunity to let you know that June is National Great Outdoors Month.
Recent research show that in the last 20 years child obesity and children spending
time in front of a screen have increased dramatically in the United States. So I would
like to reach out and encourage your readers to learn some of the benefits from
spending more time outdoors.
The National Wildlife Federation has done extensive research on all the benefits
people receive from the great outdoors. Streams and Valleys are active members in
the restoration of the Trinity River and they offer a lot of outdoor activities for
anyone who maybe interested.
I believe your magazine is a good platform in which to relay this information for
your readers who may have kids and are interested in doing outdoor activities with
their kids.
I don’t have kids but I do enjoy spending time and being active with my family
outdoors. June is the beginning of summer and Texas is full of outdoor activities. I
am interested in this topic because I can’t stand seeing the younger youth spending
time behind a screen missing out on their childhood.
I look forward to talking to you and maybe I’ll see you out outdoors this June.
Sincerely,
Daniel Garcia
