Dear Chapter community,
The last few years have been challenging, but they’ve also created opportunities for us to show

Email Invitation to Potential Panelists
Hello {{FirstName}},
My name is {{EmailerName}}. I hope you are well.
I am reaching out because I am one of the organizers of the OpenIDEO {{LocationName}} Chapter
(see the blurbs at the bottom of this email for a little more information about us) and we are
preparing to host a Chapter community event focused on mental wellness. Long before
Coronavirus emerged, a silent epidemic had been growing around the world. Often stigmatized
and too rarely discussed, loneliness and depression have affected millions of people, as they
struggle with mental health issues without support.
Now, as COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns have forced hundreds of millions of people around the
world to self isolate, mental health issues have been on the rise, and we can no longer ignore this
crisis. Unfortunately, the end is not in sight. In fact, with the coming winter months, we anticipate
mental health issues to be further exacerbated, as the cold and dark create further isolation. And,
even when the pandemic subsides, we are likely to endure lasting effects for years to come.
This unprecedented moment has inspired creativity, solidarity and human connection, as well as
the realization that we have the power to influence and transform our human condition.
This is why we are joining OpenMINDS, a global series of events happening around the world in
10+ cities across the world and we will be hosting an event where we will discover new practices
to care for our personal and collective mental health and find support where we need it the most.
One of the activities at our event will be a panel with experts in the mental health space.
Given your experience in {{description of role/expertise/background}}, we would be thrilled to
invite you to join our panel to share your experiences and learnings.
3. Event Details:
The panel would be at {{XX Time Slot}} on {{XX Date}}. {{Insert info about amount of preparation
required}}. {{Insert info about other panelists as available.}}. Unfortunately, we are not able to
financially compensate panelists at this time, but it will be an opportunity to network with
members of our community who are leaders in {{XX community expertise, XX community
expertise, XX community expertise}}, as well as be a part of a global community research initiative
working together to destigmatize mental health and design new forms of mental health support.
If you are interested in joining us as a panelist, we are happy to answer additional questions, or
hop on a quick call to discuss as needed. Thank you in advance for your consideration.
All the best,

What is OpenIDEO?
Some problems are too big to solve alone. Today’s complex challenges require the creativity of
entire networks: better ways to come together, share ideas, and coordinate action around the
globe. OpenIDEO puts the power of human-centered design in the hands of many, harnessing
the diverse skills and perspectives of people all over the world to spark innovation where it’s
needed most.
As IDEO’s open innovation practice, OpenIDEO works with world-class partners to help diverse
stakeholders connect online and in person, find support, and build on the ideas of many to create
solutions for today’s toughest societal problems. Since 2010, the OpenIDEO community has
engaged hundreds of thousands of diverse stakeholders in nearly 200 countries, and has
generated more than 17,500 ideas for good. Tackling over 60 topics ranging from food waste to
girls' education to Ebola, people everywhere are designing better, together with OpenIDEO.
What is an OpenIDEO Chapter?
Chapters are a network of creative communities in cities across the globe using design to act on
social challenges. They are exploring how creative problem solvers can use design to create
more positive impact in their local communities.
We do three things…
1. We connect the creative community together in a city by rallying around a social
challenge on the OpenIDEO platform.
2. We take action using human-centered design by conducting research field trips,
brainstorming new ideas, and prototyping and testing solutions.
3. We build opportunities and drive positive impact through design by providing support to
local innovators, launching new efforts, and connecting as a global network.
4. Learning prompts for social media:
As part of our storytelling journey, we’d like to engage as many of your community members on
social media. Use these prompts and hashtags and share them before, during and after the event
with attendees so we can all learn from each other no matter where we are. This global social
media engagement will demonstrate that we are not doing this on our own but instead, that we
are in this healing journey together.

Share these prompts on Instagram and encourage event attendees to contribute their thoughts
