1. PDHPE Rationale
Mr Daniel Ward 4W
• The Following slides will present information on PDHPE and the
reasons why teaching it to students is important in primary schools.
2. PDHPE Syllabus Aims
• PDHPE is one of the key learning areas in the primary school
curriculum.
• Its aim is for students to further develop their knowledge, values,
skills and attitude.
• It’s also focused on encouraging students to make the correct
decisions and to ensure they participate in physical activity and
have healthy balanced diets.
3. Advantages of a Healthy
Lifestyle
• PDHPE has many advantages for students and this is one of the
reasons why its important to teach in primary schools.
• The healthy lifestyles can result in a child being happier, which in
turn means that they are more likely to concentrate at school and
pay closer attention, while they will also have more energy.
• If a student is eating healthy and physically active, they are more
likely to have a better relationship with their family and their
communication skills will be better.
4. Skills & Strands
• Two key elements in PDHPE are subject matter and skills, both of
which are vital parts of the syllabus.
• There are eight strands in the subject matter, including Active
Lifestyle, Growth and Development and Interpersonal
Relationships. Each of these are essential parts of learning for
primary students.
• There are also five skills which students develop in PDHPE,
including Communicating, Moving and Decision Making. Like the
strands, these skills are essential for students to learn.
5. Ensuring children realise
the importance of PDHPE
• There is no doubt that PDHPE is extremely important. Despite the
significance of it, it is often ignored by students who would prefer
to play video games instead or eat unhealthy food because it tastes
nice.
• With the combined help of parents, teachers and schools in
general, we can work together to ensure that children are raised in
a way that they can live happy and healthy lives by ensuring that
they eat healthy and regularly participate in physical activity, which
will benefit them for the rest of their lives.
