United States?

2. Introduction
• Never before have so many American citizens presented with a viable
opportunity to claim their share of the most rapidly rising market in the
country than with those afforded to them by the changes in medical
marijuana laws.
• It’s an industry already valued at well over a billion dollars, and in just
four short years, experts predict that this figure will increase tenfold.
• This is all thanks to a welcome shift in attitudes towards providing
cannabis to alleviate the symptoms of chronic pain sufferers and those
living with conditions such as HIV.
3. How many states have legalized
medical marijuana already?
• As a result of this shift, no less than 23 US states have already
relaxed their rules, making medical marijuana legal.
• Thought that still leaves 27 to go, moves are underway to make this
possible.
• In 2014 alone, a further 16 states were taking to the polls to vote on
new cannabis legislations, and many estimate that it won’t be long
before the rest follow suit.
4. • What this ultimately means, is that if you’re seriously considering
opening a medical marijuana dispensary, there’s probably never been
a better time to go about it.
• We’ll provide the full list of places where you can start a cannabis
business in America at the end of this presentation, though before we
do, there’s a few things we think you should know.
5. Individual cities and counties can
create their own legislations.
• Just because a state makes medical cannabis legal, that doesn’t
necessarily mean you can open a dispensary anywhere within that
state.
• In many cases, certain areas of a state have taken the route of opting
out of statewide regulations and implemented their own.
• If you’re looking to get into the weed business in a particular state,
check first that the county you’re planning to operate in will allow it.
6. Recreational pot is still only available
in two US states.
• Though more and more states are starting to see the advantages of
legalizing medical marijuana, many are still dragging their feet
somewhat when it comes to letting non-patients enjoy a toke without
incurring the wrath of the law.
• At time of writing, you could only open a recreational pot shop in
Colorado or Washington.
