The solution for the shortage of affordable houses?
• Investigate if the transformation of unoccupied offices is the
solution for the shortage of affordable houses as is assumed.
• Based on data from all the buildings in the Netherlands enriched
with data from NVM, CBS, PBL Netherlands Environmental
Assessment Agency , Kadaster en provinces.
• Start on a local level and match the need for affordable houses
with the available unoccupied offices
Conclusions
• 35% of the unoccupied offices is suited for transformation
• About 25.000 houses can be created this way, this is 5% of the
490.000 houses needed in 2025
• 80% of this potential is in 30 municipalities
• Half of that municipalities already have plans for other new
(housing) developments that could cause conflicts of interests with
the potential in transformation.

The robots are coming
2 to 3 million jobs will be lost
Big data Meetup10
• Based on the research ‘The Future of Employment’ van Oxford
University (UK). Which professions can be taken over by
technology/robots?
• 47% of the jobs in the US have a high risk of computerization
• Mapped it on the Dutch professions based on data from CBS and
the UWV
Conclusions
• 2 to 3 million current jobs will be lost
• Not only lower educated people will loose their jobs
• Biggest impact on people between 35-55 but also huge impact on
younger people
When are they coming? It depends on the legislation, the adoption by
companies and society.
