1. DMB.David Birkitt studied Photography and Photographic history in the UK and shortly before completing
his degree course he was head-hunted by Penny Rich and quickly embarked on a career in photographer
representation with the London based agency in 1996. The portfolio of photographers included
Lee Strickland and Jane Hilton and David worked alongside Penny on commercial photography projects,
producing shoots in Europe for Ben Sherman, Next Directory and British GQ.
Following a successful trip to meet New York based agencies, David moved stateside in 2001 and ran the US office of Ziggi
Golding's Z Photographic. The artists he represented included Koto Bolofo, Larry Sultan, John Midgley and Martina Hoogland.
Furthering his knowledge of commercial and art photography he negotiated and produced shoots for fashion brands such as
Neiman Marcus, Banana Republic, Kate Spade and Kenneth Cole.
2003 saw David join forces with Bill Charles Inc. and in 2004 he went further in the partnership to co-own Bill Charles London.
Whilst managing both offices he represented some of the world’s most renowned photographic artists including Nadav Kander,
Stephen Shore, Larry Sultan, Adam Broomberg and Oliver Chanarin, Joel Sternfeld, John Midgley and Mitch Epstein. Operating
internationally, the agency's clients for both photography and production services included Nike, Adidas, Samsung, The British
Gold Council, Intercontinental Hotels, GE, VW, Mercedes Benz, Orange Communications, Vodafone, British Vogue and British
Airways.
During this time the agency also represented key Magnum photographers including Bruce Gilden, Alec Soth, Peter Marlow and
Stuart Franklin and the collaboration strengthened in 2012 when David became Global Head of Advertising for Magnum Photos. A
key relationship that developed over this 12-year period was that with renowned visual artist Martin Parr. Their time working side
by side has seen the unwavering duo continue to deliver award winning commercial campaigns and art based projects.
David had a clear vision for where photographic and digital content was heading and his network called upon him to set up his own
agency. Applying his vision, knowledge and passion for the industry, he founded DMB Media in 2008, bringing together the most
exciting and challenging lens based artists committed to pushing the boundaries of creativity, not only in regards to the end result
but also the processes behind it, and the new possibilities provided by digital platforms and live experiences.
Since 2008 DMB Media has grown into a new agency, DMB Represents, where creating visual conversations comes alive. David
has achieved his vision with a portfolio of artists who generate visually impactful campaigns as well standing as cultural
influencers in their own right - a diverse creative powerhouse that unlocks the power of digital and live media platforms where
creative story telling can truly come alive.
When effectively integrated into the story, high quality photography and video creates stronger brand associations and identity
than the traditional trademark or logo. David firmly believes that a successful campaign, brand, product or material is one that
people identify with as soon as they see the image.
2016 was an exciting time for David as he made his debut as Creative Director for the new Halfords ‘For Life’s Journey’s’ campaign.
His satirical and humorous interpretation of the traditional British holiday at home combined with his creative outlook has set
David firmly on the directing seat.
The DMB vision continues to resonate directly with brands and the DMB artists collaborated across multiple genres with brands
such as Nike, TK Maxx, Apple, Paul Smith, Aviva, Aston Martin and Capital One.
