analytical and mathematical evaluation
 Computing Skills: Competent using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email and other
similar applications
Degree Specific Skills
 IR Spectra and analysis
 UV-Vis and analysis
 Purification through distillation, reflux, silica gel chromatography and titration
 Extraction of bacterial and fruit DNA
 Evidence recovery, presumptive blood tests and fingerprinting
 Molecular modelling using the computer program Spartan Pro
 Experience working with HPLC and GC

Education
2010-2014 University of Huddersfield Forensic & Analytical Science (MSci)
Upper Second Class (2.1)
Dissertation Project
Dissertation project involved archaeological rock samples recovered from Blackden, Cheshire
believed to have been part of a hearth or kiln in the Middle Ages. The project was to determine
using a combination of x-ray fluorescence, x-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy
what minerals were present in the samples. The temperature of formation was found of each
mineral found within the sample and from this I could then discern whether the samples were
from a hearth or kiln.
2008-2010 Durham &Gilesgate 6th Form College
A-levels: Chemistry E, Geography D, Psychology E
2003-2008 Easington Community Science College
GCSE’s: 9 including Maths, English and Science at grades A to C
Work Experience
October 2012-August 2013: Laboratory placement year during university involving organic
synthesis making optically enriched oxabispidines, whilst gaining experience with the operation
of an NMR machine on analysis of products as well as analysis through IR.
2006- One week work experience whilst in school Fin Machine, Seaham Industrial Estate
Duties included helping experienced mechanics build radiator grills for various cars
Other jobs have included part time work in pubs and outlet stores
All of these jobs were carried out with a team based work ethic
