Lateral movements that are inherent with twists encourage the lymph fluid away from the
tissues toward lymph nodes which then circulate the fluid to functioning lymph vessels. If the
lymph system cannot effectively drain, lymphedema may result.

Benefits of Breast Cancer Yoga Poses
Practicing flowing restorative yoga movements, along with even pacing of the breath
will restore strength and increase both energy and flexibility. Breast Cancer Yoga is
intended to awaken positive emotions, build self-confidence and diminish depression.
As we continue to practice this flowing yoga, we become open to a higher realization of
everything and everyone around us. Our world expands and there is a greater
acceptance of “what is.”
Benefits to Twists
Twists are very cleansing for the stomach, intestines, pancreas, liver and gall bladder as
well as giving deep massage to the kidneys and the digestive tract. Squeezing the
organs specifically places the body in a way that the muscles push up against an organ
and squeeze it. When finished releasing the pose, fresh blood rushes back into the
organs, cleansing and purifying it.

Twists and the Breath
When moving into a twisting action there may be a feeling of constriction in the lungs.
Consequently, the lower lungs start working at their minimum capacity, thereby making
the mid and upper lungs work harder and with less discomfort. The ability to develop
and direct an even breath into the most open space in the body while in a twist, (not
focusing on the compression) is beneficial for overcoming stress. When stress arises, our
body may tense up which then may hamper the breath. It is here where the lack of
directing the breath properly may be recognized. Learning to work with the breath
while doing twists can be very therapeutic.

cancer. Some therapies boost the immune system to counteract chemo and radiation
therapy effects. They can also reduce nervousness and anxiety. We have included a
medicinal herbal tea, therapeutic essential aroma spray and a massage oil.

Consequently, the lower lungs start working at their minimum capacity, thereby making the mid and upper lungs work harder and with less discomfort. The ability to develop and direct an even breath into the most open space in the body while in a twist, (not focusing on the compression) is beneficial for overcoming stress. When stress arises, our body may tense up which then may hamper the breath. It is here where the lack of directing the breath properly may be recognized.
