Jeremy Casson - An Architectural and Historical Journey Around Europe
How new media technologies were used in construction, research, planning and evaluation
1. Evaluation Question 4: How did you
use new media technologies in the
construction and research, planning
and evaluation stages
2. Photoshop
During my time with Photoshop I created all of the paper based advertisements for the
‘Intrusion’ film trailer.
From using it during my AS year I knew the fundamental skills of how it worked and how
to create a good looking product from it. After deciding what genre we were going to
create we created a collage of all the horror ideas we had. I also looked online for some
more intermediate skill tutorials for the software. On how to change colors of layers and
texts on my product. Some features that helped with production, would
be, blending, lasso and adding filters over the top of the image.
For the ‘Intrusion’ we used the online website, ‘dafont’,
which allowed for us to save a font and
upload it to the Photoshop font library
3. After Effects
This was the first time I had ever used After Effects and had little to no Idea on how to
use it. In order to learn the basics I used online tutorial and luckily had a class mate who
was skilled in the software.
The main role for After Effects, for our trailer was in order to add intro clips for the
production companies. This allowed it to look more like a professional trailer than an
amateur one. The software was also useful for letting me make the inter-titles during
the trailer look exciting and move, rather than a boring non-moving font slide.
I feel that I did well with the Effects I created, knowing that I started without any
knowledge of the software and only learned how to do things on it a week earlier.
4. Final Cut
I used Final Cut to create and edit the trailer. It was the first time I had used the
software as I usually use Sony Vegas but Final Cut was the default video editing software
and college and was good enough to use. To learn some basics I used YouTube to find
tutorials on how to use the more advanced editing techniques. Some of these
techniques are, cut, adding text, and adding a soundtrack and fading it into the video.
As well as using Final Cut for my trailer I also used it for creating an animatic for my
storyboard, another section in my coursework.
After the production of our trailer I feel that I did use Final Cut well, and that the
product I created was good. I just feel that given another few weeks to learn more of the
basics I could have created a better product.
5. Garage Band
In order to create my own soundtrack I used the mac software Garage Band. This allowed
me to add pre made sounds into a timeline. I had previously used this software for my AS
film opening. So I knew how to add the sounds and instruments and add effects such as
reverb and lowering and raising the pitch of the track.
I feel that I used it pretty well as the end product sounded good from feedback I received
and from my own opinion, it sounded very good. I used all of the editing options
available. And the interesting sounds such as drums and Sci-Fi sounds.
6. Blogger
Blogger was the website I used in order to keep all of my work in order and to save
my products for the examiners to view it. It is a very simple site to use and didn’t take
much effort.
I only used the website to post finished work and I didn’t do much on it apart from
that.
7. YouTube
In order to get my trailer onto Blogger I needed to upload my trailer to YouTube. This is
very simple as it only takes a click of a button to do.
