In our previous issue we discussed about India being in a Sweet
Spot ! Amidst current Global disturbances, FIIs are looking at
India as a safe zone for investments; our stringent trade policies
and huge consumer base is an unsaid attraction for every
investor. Hence most of the investment experts are bullish about
Indian equity market.
However the key thing to understand here is - where to invest ? IT
looks promising but costly, Energy & Infra looks cheaper and
attractive, Large Cap is safe but unable to create enough alpha
(returns)......so a perfect Asset Allocation is must to be followed by
every investor. Read more about some SMART Mutual Fund
schemes or categories which provides easy maneuvering
between the Assets, Sectors and Securities.....

2. If you look at YTD ( Year to date), from 1st Jan 2022 till 30th
April 2022, both Large-cap Indices NIFTY & SENSEX have
been net negative. Consequently, almost all top Large Cap
biased MF funds also stood in red during these four months
of the year. So is there any thing to worry or are there any
special signals which experts found to be in play ?
Of course not ! India as a country and Indian Capital Market
has done quite well in last few months in both real terms as
well as relative terms. As World Bank has also quoted in
their official statement – “With a population of more than
1.2 billion, India is the world’s largest democracy. Over
the past decade, the country’s integration into the global
economy has been accompanied by economic growth.
India has now emerged as a global player”
In response to the COVID-19 shock, the government and the
Reserve Bank of India took several monetary and fiscal
policy measures to support vulnerable firms and households,
expand service delivery (with increased spending on health
and social protection) and cushion the impact of the crisis on
the economy. Thanks in part to these proactive measures,
the economy is expected to rebound - with a strong base
effect materializing in FY22 - and growth is expected to
stabilize at around 7 percent thereafter.
So it’s a big story ahead ! Investing is not the same like
before. Its not the Large-cap story alone. There is a large list
of themes and wealth creating strategies in the world of
Mutual Funds. Remain invested in the one which is most
suitable to you and remain positive. The best is yet to come !

World is changing and the story of wealth creation is also changing. A company working at its peak
capacity utilization having established market is a good large cap bet for steady income but a
company creating new market for their product with no limit in their capacity utilization, is a new
wealth creator bet. What I mean to say here is, Large Cap active category or Large Cap ETF category
may be a good wealth creator in past and may not be a steady returns category for future ! Hence, the
new upcoming and popular categories are – Flexi Cap or Multicap categories. Young & Mid aged
investors may look at investing in Mid-cap or Small-cap categories, if their risk appetite allows. Given
below is the category performance chart of Large Cap Funds, Mid-cap Funds, Small-cap Funds and
Flexi- Cap Funds over last 10 Years, 5 Years, 3 Years, and 1 Years:
Similarly when it comes to theme based investments - Technology as a theme has been a great
wealth creator since last decade – but suddenly energy, Infrastructure and ESG has emerged as a
new theme due to various national and Global initiatives in this direction. See the category
performance chart of Theme based Equity Funds over last 10 Years, 5 Years , 3 Years and 1 Years :
As you can see above, the last decade was all about technology and hence it was the biggest wealth creator of
that period. Now you see that energy, Infra and ESG has starting appearing on top of the chart.
If you redeem or switch from one theme to another then you will have to pay taxes on your Income; and even
sometimes you may miss the actual rally of the respective theme due to the information shortfall.
Therefore we would recommend Investors the new upcoming and popular categories like – Flexi Cap or
Multicap categories which has combination of ALL IN ONE, Large, Mid, and Small cap companies and Fund
managers will change allocation among Large, Mid and Small based on Market trend with keeping minimum
allocation in each as per the Norms given by SEBI
SO WHAT WILL YOU DO AS AN INVESTOR ?

In our Investment Gyan section, we picked this question after doing several round of survey! We did the
survey on 100 Long-term investors, which have been investing since 10 years or more. We also did the
similar survey on 100 MF Distributors.
Question asked in the survey:
What is the best method to create good wealth ?
95% voted
for A
5% voted
for B

WHICH IS A BETTER STRATEGY ? BUY & HOLD
OR ACTIVE RE-BALANCING ?
Options :
B. Invest and keep rebalancing at regular intervals
(Sell at High & Buy at Low etc).
A. Invest Right & Sit Tight ( Buy & Hold)
Since this survey was made on experienced MF or Equity
investors (age group 55 and above), the voting survey
was very really an eye opener for many new generation
investors.
Most of us believe in active churning of schemes or stocks, but maximum wealth has been created by
'Buy & Hold' strategy in past 30 Years. So the Question is - What to buy & hold ? Of course, here
comes the answer - Mutual Fund Sahi Hai

8. He wanted to create his own retirement Kitty, besides his existing PF deduction in the organisation he was
employed with !
He wanted to have the spending power fo Rs 30,000/- per month ( present Value) at the age of his
retirement i.e 58 Yrs .
When we first met Mr Murthy around 12 Yrs back, he was very clear about two things :
1.
2.
So as help we first calculated the inflation adjusted Future Value ( FV) of his requirement. At an assumed rate
of 6% annual inflation, we told him that his requirement would be approximately Rs 72000/- per month, when
he will retire at the age of 58 Yrs. It means the need of Rs 30000/- per month would turn into the need of Rs
72,000/- per month in 15 Yrs, due to inflation.
Looking at his requirements, we then calculated his Kitty target amount. Assuming the current Annuity
rate of Government or other traditional products, we assumed that Mr Murthy will be getting Rs 700/- (
approx) per Lakh from his accumulated retirement corpus. Hence we aimed at creating a corpus of
around Rs 1 Cr in next 15 Years , when Mr Murthy will reach the age of 58.
Today when Mr Murthy is at 55 Yrs of age and 3 years away from his retirement, his retirement Kitty has grown
to Rs.1.27 Cr and if we consider Rs 700 per lakhs of pay-out from this corpus, then he can easily draw get
approximately Rs.88k per month, which is much more than what we desired.
So what was so special thing done by Mr Murthy ?
He calculated his target properly and committed regular investment in Equity Funds. Because taking the
traditional route or Debt route, he could never have achieved the desired target
He committed Rs 30,000/- per month for investing in Equity MFs by learning a simple thumb-rule - if you Open SIP
in any good Equity MF Scheme for 15 Years, you can easily start withdrawing 2x ( two times) of the same
amount as monthly Income, for life time. Based on this general thumb-rule, he selected following 5 ( five )
schemes for the purpose. The table given below presents the exact status of his investments as on 30th April 2022 :
