Tamara Turnley Robinson
23rd National President
Dear Members of Jack and Jill of America, Inc.,
Greetings and Welcome! On behalf of the entire National Executive
Board, welcome to the Mid-Atlantic Region, Charlotte, North
Carolina “The Queen City,” on the occasion of our 41st National
Convention. Forover75years,JackandJillofAmericahasbeencommitted
to the development of our youth as leaders and philanthropists. This year’s
theme, “A Legacy of Leadership and Service, And Still We Rise” speaks to
the power of our past and the potential of our future.
It has been an honor and privilege to serve as your 23rd National President.
I thank the members of the National Executive Board for supporting me
on my leadership journey to serve this wonderful organization. The past
two years have been a whirlwind of milestones and accomplishments. We
have celebrated our 75th anniversary and the inauguration of the 44th
President of the United States, strengthened our partnerships, expanded
our legislative advocacy and placed the spotlight on STE(A)M for our
children.
During our 41st National Convention, we have an awesome line-up of
activities for Mothers, Associates, Fathers, Teens and Children. With
a record setting 1000 mothers in attendance, our goal is efficiency,
effectiveness, enrichment and fun. This convention will feature J&J
University education sessions; a Legislative Luncheon featuring Marian
Wright Edelman, Founder & CEO of The Children’s Defense Fund and
an honorary member of Jack and Jill; Friday Nite Entertainment featuring
comedienne Kym Whitley and recording artist KEM; our Literacy Saturday
featuring an Authors Pavilion and Literacy focused Service project and
closing banquet and gala featuring Kirk Whalum will conclude our
convention. We will work hard and play hard!
Please join me in thanking Mid-Atlantic Regional Director Deirdre
Williams and convention co-chairs Martina Davis, Artisena Hill and
Candace Berry-Vaughn, as well as our host chapters, Charlotte, Gastonia-
Piedmont, Queen City, and South Charlotte. They have worked tirelessly
to ensure our convention is fabulous! My sincerest thanks to the entire
Mid-Atlantic Regional team and all members of the Mid-Atlantic Region
for their support.
Enjoy your convention experience!

Greetings!
On behalf of the citizens of Charlotte, I would like to welcome the attendees of the Jack and Jill of
America, Inc. 41st
National Convention to Charlotte on July 30 – August 3, 2014. We are happy that you
have chosen Charlotte for this event and we trust that you will feel comfortable and at home in the Queen
City.
The City of Charlotte warmly recognizes July 30 – August 3, 2014 as “Jack and Jill of America, Inc.
Week. The theme of your convention, “A Legacy of Leadership and Service…And Still We Rise”
denotes the organization’s time-honored commitment and dedication towards leadership and youth
empowerment. In the organization’s 76 years of existence, educational, cultural, civic, recreational, and
service programs have been designed to stimulate the minds and lives of children.
It gives me great pleasure to share our fast-growing, dynamic, and innovative city with such a diverse and
impressive group. Charlotte continues to be recognized and selected as a meeting destination by an
increasing number of organizations. It is a community of pleasant tree-lined neighborhoods, parks and
museums, restaurants, and sports facilities. We are especially proud to be the home of the NASCAR Hall
of Fame, the Levine Center for the Arts which includes The Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, and the
Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts +Culture. In addition, the activities available in our
vibrant Center City mixes dining, entertainment, and cultural amenities that are distinctly Charlotte.
To all of the Jack and Jill of America members and families, thank you for sharing your motto of
“Working, Playing, and Living Together” with the city of Charlotte. Have a great time in our city and
enjoy yourselves!
Sincerely,
Daniel G. Clodfelter

You have and always will be my foundation, my
rock and my inspiration.
I have been a member of Jack and Jill for over 25 years,
the last 10 of which have been a serious commitment
and journey of leadership at the chapter, regional,
and national levels. I undertook this journey for two
reasons, I truly believe in the “Power and Potential”
of the J&J mission, and that “Nothing will work
unless you do.”
One of the challenges of a Jack and Jill leadership
journey is that your service often takes you away
from your children and family in order to build and
fortify an organization that serves and impacts the
lives of others. Thank you for making the sacrifices
that allowed me to serve this organization that I love.
Momma, you provided me the gift of legacy status
by joining JJOA over 40 years ago in Baton Rouge,
Louisiana (and graduating out in good standing!).
I am eternally grateful that I was able to join the
Los Angeles, CA chapter when my eldest was only
two. Thank you for providing me the gifts of
unconditional love and active support. Whatever I
needed and whenever I needed it, you were there. I
hope to be half the mother to my sons that you have
been to me.
Daddy, although you have transitioned, I feel your
presence daily. I hope I have conducted myself as a
leader with whom you would be proud. You taught
me by example the importance of service and how to
lead with integrity. You also taught me that “if you
don’t love it, don’t do it.” I have tried to lead and
serve with passion.
Sister and sister through marriage, your many gifts of
“love in action” over the years have lifted me in ways
you cannot imagine. Thank you catching the vision
and joining JJOA as mothers to continue the legacy
for Maya, Kai and Keira.
Brother, you were always willing to be pressed into
J&J service when needed. You have always been a
consistent rock of support during this journey.
Please know that it has meant the world to me and
the boys. Brother through marriage, you have been a
great cheerleader and the one who heard the phone
ring that Thanksgiving night that changed the
trajectory of my leadership journey!
Handsome, brilliant and wonderful sons, you have
each brought such joy to my life and have been true
inspirations and the most remarkable gifts from
God. You have each, in different ways, provided me
the impetus to stay committed to this work. Thank
you for sacrificing mommy time to allow me to serve.
Husband of 33 years, thank you for being both
mom & dad over the years by taking on the extra
responsibilities at home when I was called to my
Jack and Jill duties. I am grateful you have come to
appreciate this passion of mine. I love you. My Jack
and Jill leadership journey is now complete; we can
now be off to new adventures!
“I’ve learned that you shouldn’t go through life with a
catcher’s mitt on both hands; you need to be able to throw
something back.” -- Maya Angelou
Thank you all for supporting me in my season of
“throwing something back.”
I love you all more than you can imagine
In gratitude,
From the National President

I thank the members of the National Executive Board for supporting me on my leadership journey to serve this wonderful organization. We will work hard and play hard! Please join me in thanking Mid-Atlantic Regional Director Deirdre Williams and convention co-chairs Martina Davis, Artisena Hill and Candace Berry-Vaughn, as well as our host chapters, Charlotte, Gastonia- Piedmont, Queen City, and South Charlotte. They have worked tirelessly to ensure our convention is fabulous! My sincerest thanks to the entire Mid-Atlantic Regional team and all members of the Mid-Atlantic Region for their support. • 12. You have and always will be my foundation, my rock and my inspiration. I have been a member of Jack and Jill for over 25 years, the last 10 of which have been a serious commitment and journey of leadership at the chapter, regional, and national levels. I undertook this journey for two reasons, I truly believe in the “Power and Potential” of the J&J mission, and that “Nothing will work unless you do.” One of the challenges of a Jack and Jill leadership journey is that your service often takes you away from your children and family in order to build and fortify an organization that serves and impacts the lives of others. Thank you for making the sacrifices that allowed me to serve this organization that I love. Momma, you provided me the gift of legacy status by joining JJOA over 40 years ago in Baton Rouge, Louisiana (and graduating out in good standing!). I am eternally grateful that I was able to join the Los Angeles, CA chapter when my eldest was only two. Thank you for providing me the gifts of unconditional love and active support. Whatever I needed and whenever I needed it, you were there. I hope to be half the mother to my sons that you have been to me. Daddy, although you have transitioned, I feel your presence daily. I hope I have conducted myself as a leader with whom you would be proud. You taught me by example the importance of service and how to lead with integrity. You also taught me that “if you don’t love it, don’t do it.” I have tried to lead and serve with passion. Sister and sister through marriage, your many gifts of “love in action” over the years have lifted me in ways you cannot imagine. Thank you catching the vision and joining JJOA as mothers to continue the legacy for Maya, Kai and Keira. Brother, you were always willing to be pressed into J&J service when needed. You have always been a consistent rock of support during this journey. Please know that it has meant the world to me and the boys. Brother through marriage, you have been a great cheerleader and the one who heard the phone ring that Thanksgiving night that changed the trajectory of my leadership journey! Handsome, brilliant and wonderful sons, you have each brought such joy to my life and have been true inspirations and the most remarkable gifts from God. You have each, in different ways, provided me the impetus to stay committed to this work. Thank you for sacrificing mommy time to allow me to serve. Husband of 33 years, thank you for being both mom & dad over the years by taking on the extra responsibilities at home when I was called to my Jack and Jill duties. I am grateful you have come to appreciate this passion of mine. I love you. My Jack and Jill leadership journey is now complete; we can now be off to new adventures! “I’ve learned that you shouldn’t go through life with a catcher’s mitt on both hands; you need to be able to throw something back.” -- Maya Angelou Thank you all for supporting me in my season of “throwing something back.” I love you all more than you can imagine In gratitude, From the National President “Tamara, Tammy, Momma, Tante T ” To my Wonderful Family,
