Unique integrated approach
Delft3D FM offers one modelling environment for the simulation of storm surges, hurricanes,
tsunamis, coastal, river and urban floods with detailed local flows and water levels, waves,
sediment transport and morphology, including catchment hydrology, urban rainfall-runoff,
water quality and ecology, and is capable of handling the interactions between these
processes. It allows for combinations of flow in closed conduits (1D), such as sewer pipes and
metro networks, and open water systems (1D,2D,3D), as well as a variety of real time hydraulic
structure control, taking into account hydraulic, hydrological and environmental processes.

More flexibility in generating model grid
Delft3D FM can handle curvilinear grids that provide very good performance in terms
of computational speed and accuracy. In addition to this, the grid may also consist of
triangles, quads, pentagons and hexagons. This provides optimal modelling flexibility
and ease in setting up new model grids or modifying existing ones, or locally increasing
resolution. 1D- and 2D grids can be combined, either connecting adjacent grids or a 1D
grid embedded in a 2D grid.
Better computational performance
The D-Flow Flexible Mesh (D-Flow FM) of the Delft3D FM Suite is the new software
engine for hydrodynamical simulations on unstructured grids in 1D-2D-3D. This engine
is up to 20x faster than the current SOBEK FLOW engine of the SOBEK 2 Suite for 1D
and 1D2D modelling and is even faster than the structured Delft3D-FLOW engine of the
Delft3D 4 Suite. It runs well on multicore PCs.
High performance
Delft3D FM supports parallel computations on large High-Performance Computing
(HPC) clusters. High efficiency for one to hundreds of cores.

In a nutshell
Amazing 3D visualizations of Delft3D FM results, using DFX
It is still in an alpha development stage. However, it is quite capable of turning your
model results into great looking videos with just a minimum of effort. The latest DFX
release includes support for 1D-2D flood simulations, streamlines, visualizing of
wind fields, realistic water, vertical scaling for morphology models, basic support for
3D layers plus special features such as 360° video, HoloLens and exporting to web.
