Using the CASE from last week, you have
decided to build a smartphone or tablet
design called TOITUNES (because it
links to so many IoT devices) to be the
main interface for the music system. As a
team select an interaction (choose one
below or make up one yourself). Develop
two or three different designs for your
interaction – think about the justifications
for your design.
Discuss assignment 2 with your tutor.

Interaction Scenario: Cassie’s best
friend Gina has come to Canberra for a
visit. Cassie is in the car waiting to pick
up Gina from the bus station. Cassie
brought her tablet in case the bus is late,
and sure enough it is. Skye is bored after
a long day in childcare.
Version 1: Cassie passes the time with
Skye by playing songs from Skye’s
playlist while they wait for the bus to
arrive.
Version 2: Cassie needs to finish off
some paperwork from her hospital shift,
so she hands her tablet to Skye with
TOITUNES already launched. Skye
knows where “her” music is because the
app design is intuitive to a 5yo.
CASE: Your client has hired you to
design a new music system that is able to
detect people’s routines and play music
accordingly. Your client is a music
company who represents young and
emerging musicians in the Asia Pacific
region, and want to increase sales of
music, increase awareness of their
musicians and their recordings, and
capitalize on emerging opportunities with
the Internet of Things.
Use the persona below to generate
design ideas for how this application
would work for a potential customer of the
service, based on the devices she
currently owns.
Your Persona
Cassie is a 36yo nurse that works in a
hospital emergency room at Canberra
Hospital. She lives in a three bedroom
house, where she takes care of her 5yo
daughter Skye and their cat. Cassie’s
needs around music enjoyment include
making sure the music she plays at home
is kid-safe, discovering new high-energy
songs for when she exercises and staying
awake on the drive home.
A day in Cassie’s life includes:
- Running for 30 minutes before
work,
- Cooking dinner with Skye (and a
little dancing too)
- Singing while she’s in the shower.
