Addressing the Quality Issue Facing the African Education
Structure and its Impact on African Economic Development

~ Contextual Insights
○ The African Youth Population accounts
for nearly 2/3 of the African populace.
○ African students consistently perform well
below their international peers.
○ African teacher absentees rates range
from 8% to 35% across the continent.
○ African firms consistently reporting a
widening "skills gap” that exists on the part
of African youth entering the labor
market.
○ In 2050, the African population will
account for nearly 1/4 of the world's
population.
~The African Union and
Agenda 2063: The Future We Want.
~Envision’s Purpose:
○ Envision: 2063 notes the widening skills gap that exists between skills
attained by young Africans, and the skills needed for the expansion of
the African development effort, Envision 2063 identifies five issues
plaguing the African education structure and suggests innovative ways in
which they can be alleviated in order to spur long term economic growth
and societal stability.
~The Five Issues Facing African Schools.
I)THE QUALITY OF EDUCATION RECEIVED BY AFRICAN PUPILS,
II)THE RETENTION OF AFRICAN PUPILS THROUGHOUT PRIMARY SCHOOL AND
ONTO THE SECONDARY LEVEL,
III)THE LACK OF FORMATIVE EDUCATIONAL INSTRUMENTS,
IV)ACCESS TO EXTERNAL RESOURCES, AND
V)THE FAILURE OF UTILIZING THE EDUCATION SYSTEM AS AN “INNOVATION
INCUBATOR” TO ASSIST IN AFRICAN CONTINENT’S DEVELOPMENT EFFORT.
