Organizations today are demanding faster insights leveraging more data
in new ways. Computing models which were previously the domain of
the largest supercomputing centers have become critical tools for research
institutions as well as businesses world-wide. To meet these requirements,
organizations must be able to quickly deploy complete, high performance
computing solutions, at an affordable price.
IBM® Power Systems™ high performance computing (HPC) cluster
offering is built on the foundation of IBM’s long-term partnerships with
the top supercomputing centers around the world. It is available at a scale
to meet your HPC and high-performance data analytics needs, from five
to sixty-four nodes. These configurable systems offer innovative compute,
storage, networking, and management hardware from IBM and key
IBM technology partners, along with system software technologies to
meet performance specifications that are influenced by top HPC super-
computing centers’ requirements. Orders are integrated at the factory
for system completeness and validation before shipment to your site for
rapid deployment.

Faster time to insight: an integrated
cluster solution for your workflows
Architecting superior HPC clusters requires a holistic approach
that responds to performance at every level of the deployment.
The IBM Power Systems HPC Cluster computing solution,
built with IBM Power Systems, IBM Spectrum™ Computing,
IBM Spectrum Storage™, and IBM Software technologies,
provides an integrated platform to optimize your HPC work-
flows, resulting in faster time to insights and value.
IBM Power Systems HPC Cluster is an integrated offering
containing compute, interconnect, storage, management,
cabling, and racking hardware that incorporates the following:
●● ●
From five to sixty-four compute nodes, built upon the
foundation of IBM POWER8® processors, with optional
Graphical Processing Unit (GPU) or Field Programmable
Gateway Array (FPGA) Acceleration from OpenPOWER
partners
●● ●
Elastic Storage Server (ESS) parallel storage solutions
●● ●
Software for cluster management and workload scheduling,
including optional IBM Spectrum Cluster Foundation V4.2.2
and IBM Spectrum LSF
●● ●
Optional optimized scientific and high performance comput-
ing software libraries
●● ●
High performance interconnect/fabric from Mellanox
Technologies
This preloaded cluster offering bundles HPC hardware with
IBM’s HPC software suite, including the XL C/C++ and
XL Fortran Compilers, IBM Parallel Environment, and
IBM’s Engineering and Scientific Subroutine Library (ESSL)
and Parallel ESSL. At a node level, this software is highly tuned
to get innovative performance from the IBM POWER8
architecture, which is delivered preinstalled with configurable
management, login, and compute nodes. IBM’s custom highly
scalable Message Passing Interface (MPI) facilitates scaling
across nodes, racks, and the entire cluster. Optional software
includes IBM Spectrum Cluster Foundation V4.2.2 and
IBM Spectrum LSF, which optimizes workload scheduling
and provisioning to provide up to 150 times greater throughput
for faster time to result.1
When configured with the optional Elastic Storage Server
(ESS) storage solutions, Spectrum Scale clients are preinstalled
to the compute, login, and management nodes.
These cluster elements are integrated and tested in IBM’s man-
ufacturing facilities for completeness, and then shipped to client
locations for final racking. This end to end integration, testing,
and manufacturing process reduces risk of an incomplete solu-
tion and speeds up time to deployment
Why IBM?
IBM understands that applications and business processes have
differing demands and that one size does not fit all. To ensure
that technology aligns to business rather than the other way
around, IBM offers a full portfolio of Power Systems and
Software.
Businesses that rely on IBM Power Systems servers don’t just
value leading technology and applications. They value the
exceptional client experience that IBM provides throughout
the business solution lifecycle that helps them drive rapid and
lasting business value
