Solomon began building the temple of the Lord in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where God had appeared to David. Solomon began construction on the second day of the second month in the fourth year of his reign. God later appeared to Solomon at night and told him that he had heard Solomon's prayer and had chosen the temple as the place for sacrifice. God promised that if his people humbled themselves and prayed when facing difficulties, he would forgive their sins and heal their land.
2. Do not be unequally yoked together with
unbelievers. For what fellowship has
righteousness with lawlessness? And what
communion has light with darkness? And what
accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a
believer with an unbeliever? And what agreement
has the temple of God with idols? For you are the
temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will
dwell in them, and walk among them. I will be
their God, and they shall be My people.”
II Corinthians 6: 14 – 16
If anyone loves Me, he will keep My words, and My
Father will love him, and We will come to him,
and make Our home with him.
John 14: 23
4. Now Solomon began to build the house of the
Lord at Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where the
Lord had appeared to his father David, at the
place that David had prepared on the
threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite. And he
began to build on the second day of the second
month in the fourth year of his reign.

11. But when you cross over the Jordan and dwell in
the land which the Lord your God is giving you to
inherit … then there will be the place where the
Lord your God chooses to make His name abide.
There you shall bring all that I command you: your
burnt offerings, your sacrifices, your tithes …
Deuteronomy 12: 10, 11
Then the priests brought in the ark of the covenant
of the Lord to its place, into the inner sanctuary of
the temple, to the Most Holy Place … And it came
to pass …that the house, the house of the Lord,
was filled with a cloud … the glory of the Lord
filled the house of God.

12. Then the Lord appeared to Solomon by
night, and said to him: “I have heard your
prayer, and have chosen this place for
Myself as a house of sacrifice. When I shut
up heaven and there is no rain, or
command the locusts to devour the land,
or send pestilence among My people, if My
people who are called by My name will
humble themselves, and pray and seek My
face, and turn from their wicked ways,
then I will hear from heaven, and will
forgive their sin and heal their land.”
