What Do Employers Value?
Some of the time employers will value these:
Organisational Skills
Team Working
Creativity
Employers value these skills because; when you take those skills seriously it can make you
strategic, intelligent and valuable employee.
Also, specific and general attributes will have a lot to do with those attitudes listed above.
What is specific and general attributes?
Specific attributes divide into two broad groups; general attributes is skills that everyone is
expected to have.
Firstly specific attributes fall under two wide groups – Job-related attributes and good
working procedures. Job related attributes is basically the necessities, skills and knowledge
to carry out a given job. For example, the employer may ask an employee to deliver
something. The necessity for this job will be a driver’s licence, and often a clean driver’s
licence record. The skill for this job may be that you must be a good driver to deliver
precious cargo. If you are a careless driver then the objects you are delivering might not be
satisfying when you have reached the destination. The knowledge you may need for this job
is to know how to deliver this object in efficient and satisfying time, without breaking the
law, harming other people or breaking the object.
The second division of the specific attributes is good working procedures. In this second
division, it is simple and basic work ethic and health and safety. You must consider other
people’s well being. For example, if you are unwell then you must call work and tell them
that you are unwell and you are staying home to recover. That is a good working procedure,
however you must also be cooperative with work and tell them how long you will take to
recover and when you will be back to work. Also, the work ethic of an employee should be
good. Employees should understand and agree that they are working for a wage. But
employees aren’t simply there to do given tasks in a simple attitude. They must understand
that the attitude they carry is very important to the organisation they work for. All this adds
up to a respectful specific attribute.

General Attributes:
General attributes is basically skills that is expected for an employee to have. Below, you will
see the skills that are expected by an employer.
Organisational Skills
To be a valuable employee, having organisational skills is very crucial. When working for
someone, you need to set good impressions that you know what you are doing. Not only do
you need to set good impressions of yourself to your employer, but you need to be able to
do it for yourself. Once you’ve achieved being organised everything seems to fit into place.
Everything becomes simpler, you feel more stress free and it can be a real boost in
confidence. By organisational skills, you should take everything into consideration about
being organised in general.
By organisational skills, you should consider not only just bring a pen and notebook, but also
planning out your day or week, getting enough sleep, waking up on time and eating
breakfast, being clean and have a good hygiene. All of this can make you understand that
being organised is very important and can be a really big improvement and result in time
management, boost in confidence, you’ll set good impressions and you’ll feel that you have
a lot more time on your hands because you have taken a big load of work and organised it
into an environment you feel most comfortable in.
Team Working
Team working is a very important and dynamic skill. Not many people realise this, but team
working is a dynamic skill because everyone depends on one another. If one seems to not
agree with an idea, or even fall out with one from his team, it can steer the group into the
wrong direction. When working in a group it is important to realise that you should try to
get along with everyone, contribute as much as you can, and be very creative.
When all goes well and everyone gets along, the group almost seems to fly with success.
Everything becomes easier for the entire group to handle. Communication is the next big
step for good customer service, or better product outcome. When communicating
punctually and clear, the group gets a better understanding of what is expected and what is
needed. Good communication will increase the pace of what work is being done because it
can also motivate you. This creates a better environment for everyone to work in, and in
general everything becomes easier. Therefore, the customer will be very satisfied with the
customer service they have been given. And the product could be a very good outcome. So
this is why employers are very keen on having employees with good team work skills.
