Seven hurt in village arson protest By Jane Chen  |   2010-4-23  |    SEVEN people were injured when more than 10 villagers yesterday set fire to a construction site in Emei Mountain scenic zone in southwest China's Sichuan Province to protest at the forced demolition of their homes. The villagers headed by JianJianmin and Cheng Jianzhong carried gasoline to the construction site for a government resort complex, threatening workers to down tools, Emeishan City government said last night. But online rumors said the clash led to one death, Caijing.com.cn reported Oops we were stuck…. the bus cannot get through… The dispute occurred in Baoning Village of Emeishan City's Eshan Town, which has benefited from tourism on Emei Mountain. According to a city plan in 2001, more than 1,100 houses in five towns including Baoning Village will be demolished to build a tourism project between Emei Mountain and the Giant Stone Buddha at Leshan,inSichuan's neighboring Chongqing Municipality. But the project was shelved due to villagers' protest over concerns after the land loss..

Day 1 – The journey started from万年车站. First pit stop at 先峰寺。 An approximate of 18.5 km journey.
The journey to 万年寺。。。
WannianTemple 万年寺 6-tusked white elephant
There is a believe that if you rub the elephant’s back, good luck will be cast upon you. The Wannian Temple of 10000 Years is the oldest surviving Emei monastery(reconstructed in the 9th century). Its dedicated to the man on the white elephant, the Bodhisattva Puxian, who is the protector of the mountain.
White Dragon Cave 白龙洞 is said to have been the place where Lady BaiSuzhen, legendary nymph who was originally a white snake later became a beautiful girll, cultivated her magic skills here.
Niuxin Pavilion 牛 心 亭 Pavilion to relax while observing waterworks & appreciate natural music .
Qingyin Pavilion Named the Pure Sound Pavilion because of the sound effects produced by rapid waters coursing around rock formations in the area, the temple itself is built on an outcrop in the middle of a fast-flowing stream
An inspiration place for artists …
The Joking Monkey Zone 生 態 猴 区 Monkeys at this area are tame to entertain visitors. But, be wary on those living in the wild. Don’t play play…
Our first rest stop – tau foofah
Hong Chun Ping, this Buddhist Monastery was named after the 1000-year old HongchunTeramae old trees in front of the monastery. It was originally an Indian monk retreat place and the temple was constructed during Sung Dynasty named as Thousand Buddha Temple. Early Ming Dynasty (around 1369) Chu Shan monks expanded it to monastery and named Thousand Buddha Monastery.
洪 椿 古 树 山 行 本 无 雨 空 翠 湿 人 衣 During spring and summer morning, the entire atmosphere will be filled with heavy mist that is moist enough to wet your shirt. Thus, named 洪椿晓雨.
Between Hungchunping at 1120m, and Xianfeng Temple , we need to pass through one of the most difficult path with thousand of steps, named as 99 Curves . The journey may be exhausting…
But, the view is splendid…
Wah! …A simple meal with a great view
Xianfeng Temple also known as Magic Peak Monastery Finally, we reached our first pit stop – Xianfeng Temple. The room may look run down (as pointed in the picture) but it came with heated mattress, tv, & a common but modern (24 hours hot water) shower room. Cost RMB 80 per person. After completing 18.5km for 8-hour, we had the earliest sleep in our life…7.30pm…ha haha
The journey from Xianfeng Temple (1752m) to Yuxian Temple (1680m) is more on descending mode and it was a good warm up session. This was found along the way but not sure was it a leach. However, it never disturb you & looks like they are still having their winter sleep ???
The weather getting more misty and cold

Elephant Bathing Pool, 2070m
According to the legend, Samantbhadra once bathed his elephant in this pool before continuing his ascent of Mount Emei or, as others say, before flying to heaven on the elephant's back.
Food stalls are easily available along the way…
The journey continue…
Lei Dong Ping Temple, 2430m
From Lei Dong Ping Temple, walked towards the bus station & proceed to Jie Yin Hall , 2540m (about 40 minutes walk ) and travel by cable car to the Golden Summit.

Puxian had become a monk and accepted Buddha’s teaching since he was a child. Because he had paid much attention to the practice when performing the Buddhism, Sakyamuni then had sent Puxian to Mt. Emei to spread the Buddhism, and at the same time, he had also given the six- tusked elephant to Puxian, meaning that the animal was the symbol of spreading the Buddhism. After This, the white elephant had become the riding animal of Puxian. Written by Emperor Kangxi
BaoGuo Si is the first temple that you will meet at the foot of Mt. Emei. It built in the 16th century, enlarged in the 17th century by Emperor Kangxi and recently renovated again.
