especially MUZAFFARPUR

 First noticed in2008
 Claimed over more than thousand death
 Occurs in summer
 Has direct correlation with heat and humidity
 Arrival of monsoon leads to end of this
disease

5.  Unknown etiology
 Clinically neurological manifestation caused
by wide range of bacteria, virus, chemical,
fungus etc

6. SYMPTOM
 High fever with change in mental status
including symptoms such as confusion ,
disorientation , inability to talk , seizure ,
coma
AFFECTED AGE GROUP
1-10 years

7. RESEARCH
 DR.T Jacob ( it is caused by a toxic substance
in lichi
 AIIMS-Patna (it is due to contaminated water
in Gandak river
 RMRI MS- (Published a hypothesis in
international journal of current microbiology
and applied science in Nov.13

8. LAB INVESTIGATION
 Nothing detected in Blood , Brain , other
Body fluid and Body organ
 Low blood sugar in most of the patient
 Majority of patient are malnourished and
belonged to low socio economic group

9. MANAGEMENT
 Mainly symptomatic
 Paracetamol for fever
 Seadetive for convulsion
 DNS/10% Dextrose for hopoglysemia
 Oxygen
 Ventilatory support

10. PREVENTION
JEVaccination
Prevent mosquito bite
Prevent sun stroke
Don’t eat contaminated fruit and water
Stay away from pig
Don’t miss dinner
