THE WATER CYCLE
WATER CYCLE
WHAT ARE THE STAGES
OF THE WATER CYCLE?
WHY IS IMPORTANT
THE WATER CYCLE?
WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF THE
WATER STAY IN ONLY ONE
STATE?
WATER CYCLE
The earth has a limited amount of
water. That water keeps going
around and around and around
and around and (well, you get the
idea) in what we call the "Water
Cycle".
BACK
STAGES OF THE WATER OF CYCLE
EVAPORATION
COLLECTION
PRECIPITATION
TRANSPIRATION
CONDENSATION
EVAPORATION: is when the sun heats up water in
rivers or lakes or the ocean and turns it into vapor or
steam.
TRANSPIRATION:This is the discharge of wáter vapor from
the leaves of plants into the admosphere.
COLLECTION: When water falls back to earth as precipitation,
it may fall back in the oceans, lakes or rivers or it may end up
on land.
CONDENSATION: Water vapor in the air gets cold and
changes back into liquid, forming clouds.
PRECIPITATION: THE CLOUDS GET HEAVY AND WATER FALLS BACK TO THE
EARTH IN THE FORM OF RAIN, HAIL, SLEET OR SNOW
WHY IS WATER IMPORTANT?
• IT'S HOW THE EARTH'S WATER RECYCLES ITSELF.
• IMAGINE IF THERE WAS NO WATER CYCLE. WATER
WOULD EVAPORATE BUT THEN NONE WOULD FORM
CLOUDS, NONE WOULD FALL AS PRECIPITATION, NONE
WOULD FILL UP THE LAKE/STREAMS, EVENTUALLY IT
WOULD ALL EVAPORATE AND WE WOULD RUN OUT OF
WATER ALSO:
• IT IS HOW WATER REACHES PLANTS, ANIMALS,
INCLUDING US.
• IT MOVES NUTRIENTS AND SEDIMENT IN THE DIFFERENT
AQUATIC ECOSYSTEMS.
• LINKED TO CLIMATE AS IT INVOLVES ATMOSPHERE,
OCEANS AND LAND.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF THE WATER STAY IN ONLY ONE STATE?
The water cycle has been working for billions of years and all life on Earth depends on it continuing to
work; the Earth would be a pretty stale place without it.
The global water cycle is important because every living organism on earth depends on water to
survive.
