4. Location of OCL – Rajgangpur in the District of Sundergarh of Odisha State in
Eastern Part of India
An area inhabited largely by Tribal Population which lack basic social amenities ,educational institution ,
health centers and rural infrastructure .Issues concerning our immediate stake holders are complex and
warrants immediate intervention . Challenges for sustainability are multi-dimensional .
Be it depleting fuel wood resources for cooking or erratic power supply at homes. They have to struggle with this
challenge day in and day out. Coupled with this are the health and environmental challenges that they face in the form
of smoke that comes out of millions of wood-burning stoves.
Many of our program locations face this challenge having water table as low as 500 feet below the ground level, mainly
because of unchecked withdrawal for agricultural purposes.
Our core intervention areas in CSR include - Water and Soil Conservation; Energy Conservation; Social Development,
Skill Training for livelihood generation touching lives of lakhs of people around the country.

5. With above objective in mind , Dalmia Bharat Group Foundation was set up to take
up sustainability initiatives With TASK CUT OUT in following areas :

of National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC)

of Rural Dev. making rural youth employable.
• Training-and-production centers in weaving articles
out of dried palm-leaves and banana fibre

o Promoted income generating activities with SHG
women like artificial jewelry making training,
beautician training etc.
o Tailoring and dress designing training commenced
at livelihood training Centre
o Certificate distribution to tailoring, dress designing
& artificial jewelry trainees by president Sangam
Mahila Mandal .
o Continuing capacity building of SHG members

15. Sustainability Efforts in our Business Process with involvement of
Customer
o Eco-friendly Packaging Material with minimum hazard to immediate environment of work area -
Replaced strapping material of Pallets from Plastic to Steel . Which can be reused . Similarly Thermo
cool separators were replaced .
o Reuse of used Refractories like grog in the products .
o Replacing old Furnace Burners with modern OXY_FUEL ones for economy of fuels , efficiency of
process , reduction in the cost and most importantly minimum effect on the environment . Customers
like TATA STEEL are direct beneficiary of such efforts .
o Skill development mission does not make people employable only but also make available quality
Manpower for the processes . Moreover Refractory Manufacturing as such require SPECIAL SKILLSET
o Mode of Transport and selection of right vehicles does not help process efficiency alone but also plays
an important role in Air Pollution .

16. All above Sustainability Efforts resulted in :
o Employment to 232 rural youth in one year time
o Micro-irrigation in 460 Acres of Farmland
o 600 Solar Lamps in 600 homes of 12 Villages
o Kitchen Garden in 180 households
o 200 smokeless Chullahs in 200 rural homes
o 32 sporting events and 12 cultural function
o Free of cost Eye –Operation in LVPEI benefitted 116 old men
and women
o 9 new remedial coaching centers added for students
o Equipped classrooms for 840 students in 12 schools
