3. Objectives of the project
To demonstrate a novel and low environmental impact brake
system that will reduce PM and PN particles (non-exhaust brake emissions)
by at least 50%;
To improve the measurement and understanding of
micrometre-sized and ultrafine particles and their effects on
health and the environment;
Recommendations to policy makers.

7. Policy maker recommendations
 Contribution to PMP informal group under the GRPE Working
Party of UNECE umbrella with know-how transfer in 2
dedicated Task Force of:
1. Real driving cycle (Lowbrasys is contributing with its Los
Angeles City Track experience, while the PMP will include
also a novel cycle based on WLTP database)
2. Measuring techniques (Lowbrasys will participate in a round-
robin tests)

9. Expected impacts
1. Environment: Cleaner, more efficient road transport activities through advances in
brake concept that helps the transition to zero emissions vehicles in urban
agglomerations.
2. Health: Substantial reduction of emission of PM in mass and numbers will translate
into reduction of impact on human health with related socio-economic benefits for
EU society.
3. Market: Contribution to strengthen the competitiveness of the EU car industry for the
entire value chain: materials developers, technology providers, component
manufacturers and OEMs.
4. Innovation and Policies: LOWBRASYS technology is candidate to become Best
Available Technology (BAT) and serve as a basis to support preparation of robust
measurement standards and Legislations on non-exhaust PM emissions.
