Water and wastewater applications present the trifecta of challenges that ESTeem's industrial wireless radios are engineered to overcome - distance, inaccessibility and mobility. View our latest slide show to learn more about the role our radios play in water and wastewater management systems.
2. Since they largely operate unseen by the greater public, water and
wastewater systems often don’t get the thought they deserve.
But a lot goes into ensuring these systems are up and running,
24/7, to meet a community’s needs. Sophisticated automation and
control networks are usually in place to manage a wide range of
functions, such as:
• Pump status (on/off/hours run) and flow rates
• Water levels in wells and tanks
• Sluice gate positions
• Reservoir levels
• Intrusion alarms and security measures
Hidden Challenges
3. Bringing it All Together
A major concern is making sure all this information is
communicated efficiently and reliably.
And that’s where ESTeem’s industrial wireless radios come in.
4. The Three Big Issues
As mentioned in previous blog posts, there are three main reasons
to adopt an industrial wireless network:
• Distance
• Linking to inaccessible areas
• The need for mobility
Water and wastewater systems have all these challenges, and our
wireless radios are perfectly suited to solve the unique concerns of
water and wastewater applications.
5. Distance
Most water systems are spread over a large area and usually in difficult
terrain. They can cover entire cities or sometimes entire counties.
Providing communication between all the pumps, tanks, lift stations and
processing areas can be very expensive using other communication
methods like leased line, fiber or cellular.
Wireless radios provide accessibility to all assets of the system in the
most cost-effective fashion.
6. Inaccessibility
Many water system sites – and wastewater system sites in particular –
can be at the lowest points in the city and can be very difficult to
communicate with.
Most water systems also have to deal with difficult terrain that’s
impossible – or exorbitantly expensive – for wired networks to cover.
Industrial wireless radios can reliably link all the points in a network
together for data collection and control.
7. Mobility
Providing mobile access to data and troubleshooting information for
operators and technicians in water systems is critical for their day-to-
day operations and security/safety.
ESTeem can provide access to these critical network components
through either a direct wireless interface such as Wi-Fi or anywhere in
the world through cellular gateways.
Using a cellular gateway with a private wireless network is much
cheaper than having a cellular radio at each site while providing the
same level of remote access.
8. The ESTeem Advantage
For over 30 years, we’ve designed, engineered and manufactured industrial
wireless radios and modems - all in the US and all specifically focused on solving
our customers’ most difficult networking challenges, no matter what the frequency.
Through all of those years, we’ve stuck to the philosophy that applications will not
bend to fit the hardware. The solution must fit the application, and we work with
our customers to ensure they get the right wireless solution to fit their needs.
To that end, all of our models come with full compatibility
baked in (195E/Horizon, 192/195 Narrowband), and we
write our software/OS specifically for the components used
for optimum efficiency and performance.
