• Founded in 1994 ETRA is an independent, member-driven
organisation devoted exclusively to material recycling of tyres
• Its mission is to develop tyre recycling as an environmentally
sound and commercially sustainable European industry
• Objectives are to develop and advance policies supporting the industry
– To identify, develop and expand markets;
– To devise and implement professional standards;
– To prepare and promote guidelines for materials, products, applications;
– To offer communication links with governments and industries

10. Characteristics of RTMs
• RTMs are soft, tough, flexible and elastic
• RTMs have excellent insulation characteristics - reducing the
impacts of vibration and sound, and under certain circum-
stances, current as well
• RTMs are moisture resistant as well porous, allowing water to
drain freely
• RTMs retain the characteristics of a tyre on the road !
• Used on road surfaces, RTMs can reduce vehicle skid, glare
and tyre spray

Concrete is a construction material composed
by water, cement, aggregate (sand and
Gravel), and additives, done by:
- 6% air
- 11% portland cement
- 41% Gravel or crushed stone
- 26% Sand
- 16% Water
After water, concrete is the most widely consumed
substance on Earth

19. The impact of concrete (CEMENT
MORTAR)
Concrete components are consumed faster than
they can be replenished (resource depletion). The
world consumption of aggregates exceeds 40
billion tonnes a year. This is twice the yearly
amount of sediment carried by all of the rivers of
the world.

20. Use of RTMs in Concrete (CEMENT
MORTAR)
By substituting the virgin components with recycled
materials, such as:
- Rubber (from end of life tires) in substitution of
light weight aggregates
- Steel (from end of life tires) in substitution of steel
- Textile fibres in substitution of plastic fibers
It is possible to increase perfomance and reduce CO2 /kg

24. REGIONAL CONFERENCE
the aggregates recycled in public
and private building works:
environmental and economic
opportunities
The National Association of Builders of
Piedmont and the National Association of
Recycled Producers of Piedmont have felt the
need to organize this Conference together to
"Tell" the Circular Economy process related to
the production of recycled aggregates and
their use in the Construction Works. In fact,
the need to recycle demolition and
construction waste has, for years now, been
acknowledged by the players in the
construction sector, however the diffusion and
use of recycled aggregates are still facing
many difficulties due to the limited demand. It
therefore seemed useful to organize a
constructive moment of discussion with
the involvement of public contracting
stations, together with the Piedmont Region,
the ARPA Piemonte, the Polytechnic of Turin,
the Order of Engineers of Turin and the ANCI
Piedmont, with the aim to come to concrete
measures to encourage the use of
recycled aggregates.

on Tyre Recycling
25 – 27 March 2020 will be the 27th Conference !
