LPV-200
SBAS CAT-1
(DA/H 200ft)
• Very good coverage of the ECAC
landmasses
 all the LPV procedures available more
than 99% of the time
• Some areas with lower availability
due (mainly) to ionospheric
activity, linked to solar cycle 24
(very active during 2014 and
beginning of 2015)
EGNOS SoL Service: Status
APV-I performance during 2014
By the end of 2015, there will be:
• LPV-200 Service level declaration in Q4 2015: new SoL SDD publication
• A general improvement in the coverage area (mainly borders) due to an
increase of the robustness against ionospheric disturbances
• GEO modernization: SES ASTRA 4B – SES-5(PRN136) replacing PRN 120
EGNOS SoL Service: Roadmap 2015 -2017
Beyond 2015, it is foreseen:
• Coverage improvement toward full EU-28 coverage
• Extension of coverage up to 72°N latitude
• Improvement of GPS SV monitoring capabilities
• GEO modernization: SES ASTRA 5B
New version of EGNOS SoL Service
Implementation Roadmap foreseen by Q2 2015
LPV-200: an EGNOS major milestone
• New EGNOS system release V2.4.1M will enable LPV operations based on
EGNOS SoL service down to a decision height of 200 ft minima (ILS CAT I
look-alike)
• According to ICAO, these operations are considered within Instrument
Approach Procedures (IAP) as Precision Approaches based on SBAS (PA -
SBAS CAT-I)
• This new service level will be called LPV-200 and its declaration towards
users is foreseen in Q4 2015
LPV-200 will bring extra operational benefits (i.e reducing delays, diversions
and cancellations) and increase accessibility to European runways with
respect to APV while maintaining today’s high safety levels

EGNOS Success Stories
AURIGNY AIR SERVICES
• Project with Eurocontrol and NATS in 2010/2011
• Results
– First regional airline making use of EGNOS during their approach and landing operations
– Conducting more than 3500 LPV approaches per year
We find the LPV much more stable than
even the ILS approach!
BEFORE AFTER
EGNOS Success Stories
AVIATION SOUTHWEST & EXETER AIRPORT
• Part of GSA funded ACCEPTA project 2012-2014
• Results
– Airport: LPV procedures published in August 2014  now pursuing 200’ DH (SBAS CAT I)
– ASW:
• Upgrade of BE76 and Piper 28A
• LPV training incorporated onto the IR course
• 10 IR instructors and 3 IR NAA examiners trained until June 2014
We may withdraw non-precision approaches when
navaids reach the end of their life now that LPV is
available
The LPV avalanche may start slow but it gains
momentum and is unstoppable. Proper training is
absolutely essential!
EGNOS Success Stories
DSNA, the French ANSP
• Committed to an ambitious roadmap aiming to publish 200 PBN and
EGNOS based approach procedures in the coming years
• 88 LPV procedures published until the date (January 2015)
EGNOS Success Stories
• “…, SLS (SBAS Landing System) is sometimes more stable than ILS,…, specially when a/c isn’t perfectly aligned with
the LOC ” Airbus Test Pilot
• “I felt I was flying an ILS” Inaer
• “Are the CDI/VDI needles working? This GPS approach is so-accurate!” TAF Helicopters
• “…inbound track and glide path are totally reliable and steady,…, I would say, better than a current radio based ILS
operation. Simply 100% accurate, lineal and reliable” Gestair Pilot
• “…Excellent flyability. Very smooth to follow, very precise in the course and in the glide path, ..., Easier than
expected and amazing to follow the path on the runway. We are delighted with this type of approaches” Gestair
Co-Pilot
• “The addition of LPV capability to our aircraft permits us to provide significantly improved schedule reliability for
our scheduled and charter clients, given the absence of traditional ground-based approach aids at many of the
remote Canadian destinations we serve. From the pilot's perspective, CMC's LPV system provides a clean,
straightforward interface which behaves exactly like an ILS, but with the exceptional SBAS performance and
availability” Canadian North

  • 21. EGNOS Success Stories AURIGNY AIR SERVICES • Project with Eurocontrol and NATS in 2010/2011 • Results – First regional airline making use of EGNOS during their approach and landing operations – Conducting more than 3500 LPV approaches per year We find the LPV much more stable than even the ILS approach! BEFORE AFTER
  • 22. EGNOS Success Stories AVIATION SOUTHWEST & EXETER AIRPORT • Part of GSA funded ACCEPTA project 2012-2014 • Results – Airport: LPV procedures published in August 2014  now pursuing 200’ DH (SBAS CAT I) – ASW: • Upgrade of BE76 and Piper 28A • LPV training incorporated onto the IR course • 10 IR instructors and 3 IR NAA examiners trained until June 2014 We may withdraw non-precision approaches when navaids reach the end of their life now that LPV is available The LPV avalanche may start slow but it gains momentum and is unstoppable. Proper training is absolutely essential!
  • 23. EGNOS Success Stories DSNA, the French ANSP • Committed to an ambitious roadmap aiming to publish 200 PBN and EGNOS based approach procedures in the coming years • 88 LPV procedures published until the date (January 2015)
  • 24. EGNOS Success Stories • “…, SLS (SBAS Landing System) is sometimes more stable than ILS,…, specially when a/c isn’t perfectly aligned with the LOC ” Airbus Test Pilot • “I felt I was flying an ILS” Inaer • “Are the CDI/VDI needles working? This GPS approach is so-accurate!” TAF Helicopters • “…inbound track and glide path are totally reliable and steady,…, I would say, better than a current radio based ILS operation. Simply 100% accurate, lineal and reliable” Gestair Pilot • “…Excellent flyability. Very smooth to follow, very precise in the course and in the glide path, ..., Easier than expected and amazing to follow the path on the runway. We are delighted with this type of approaches” Gestair Co-Pilot • “The addition of LPV capability to our aircraft permits us to provide significantly improved schedule reliability for our scheduled and charter clients, given the absence of traditional ground-based approach aids at many of the remote Canadian destinations we serve. From the pilot's perspective, CMC's LPV system provides a clean, straightforward interface which behaves exactly like an ILS, but with the exceptional SBAS performance and availability” Canadian North Some feedback from pilots: ReliableEasier Reduced Workload AccurateStable
